windows and macos seem to get it right
sites optimize their visuals for windows, while mac uses very high dpi tiny screens that look good no matter how fricked the font is. linux just gets ACK'd in between with users using normal big desktop screens and shitty mac rendering while nobody optimizes for that. thats why so many sites on linux look like pure shit and make your eyes want to bleed, tiny grainy blurry font

Mac is utterly fricked too, the only reason it looks good is because they use high DPI screens and fonts look much better at high DPI in general (on Windows and Linux too, of course). Mac fonts at like ~96DPI like most "normal" computer monitors look awful still.

Windows has no button to disable hinting so if your monitor is higher-res than 1080 the kerning looks all fricked up. To me that's a way bigger problem than bikeshedding about grey vs subpixel AA.
While features like this are great for the average user, I really hope they are easily disabled for people who work in video/graphics

the problem is probably the whole shitty ass clearytype system and how it doesn't address different pixel geometries you're seeing show up in OLED panels. that's probably what they want to address.
right now you have to edit a registry value to fix it and it's Black personlicious, but that's windows in a nutshell.

Terminology is all fricked up.
You cannot compare Fidelity FX (AKA FSR1) to DLSS, but you can compare it to NIS (driver level upscaler for all applications, I think this used to be called CAS).
But Upscalers are not all the same, DLSS 1 required per game training, DLSS 2 uses motion vectors, and DLSS 3 is the same but maybe performance improvements and frame gen (I think).
This requires developers to manually integrate these upscalers into their games (you can't just globally enable DLSS or FSR 2 into all games on a driver level).
Meanwhile FSR 1, NIS, they all just upscale an image (it's like TAA) and it just softens up and applies a sharpening filter of the upscaled resolution. It looks better than reducing the resolution of your display or TAA, but it still has jaggies and all the issues of lowering your resolution.
There is also DLDSR which does the opposite, which makes your resolution higher to avoid jaggies or something (I just learned about this 5 seconds ago).

All you need to know is that Microsofts "AI Upscaler" is just FSR 1 with Machine Learning optimized around it. This is not new or innovative. Lossless Scaling literally already has this. It's called LS1. It combines FSR1s open source + machine learning to create better quality than default FSR1/Driver level RSR.
FSR is sharpening with temporal frame + upscaler + frame gen
