Will my IT job be safe in the coming AI revolution?

I literally gave up comic creation for IT because I knew AI was going to start shitting things up over a year ago. Is my job field safe?

What's annoying about this is he seems to be doing a bit like "look at how stupid this face is" but he barely exaggerates so the effect is that he looks stupid on purpose, then continues to look stupid afterwards.

if you're good enough to be one of the few who gets to insert the human touch behind code/double-check to make sure it isn't gonna murder someone... yes.
but for the menial and sad/pathetic shit? you're probably fricked and IT is swarming with them.
i'd say probably a third of the population in most countries are "IT" in some way or another and it's a large enough amount of people that if it does happen then it wouldn't be a problem for very long.

Serious answer: old IT jobs have already been automated... by newer IT jobs.
As long as you continue to improve your skillset and increasing your performance with newer tools you will be alright.

      >i'd say probably a third of the population in most countries are "IT" in some way or another
IT is like bureaucracy: it can grow infinitely. But, unlike bureaucracy, it is actually productive and limited only by the natural resources.

You really think IT is going to make this list because of AI? Nothing interesting ever happens.

If they're improving, then where's the proof? What, it's not ready for us yet or some other bullshit excuse? Why hold back improved versions of AI when people would be happy to use them now?

DALL-E 1 was less than two years ago.

AI won't replace entire occupations, it'll just drastically reduce the headcount. you still need people in the mix to control the AI, supervise it, and fix problems if/when they arise. but instead of having an IT department, you'll just have a few IT guys. AI is already at a point where it can outperform juniors and as it matures more there won't be a need for mid levels either.

the "safe" jobs are the upper echelon seniors who have learned the AI tech relevant to their positions. if you're established in your career and you keep yourself educated on new tech, you can survive. if you're not those things, you should start figuring which politicians are pro-UBI so you can vote for them from the unemployment line

Yeah but we have sen what 10% layoff looks like, imagine 90% layoff after AI replaces them

it's going to be very grim but i hope it's more than a year before i can be replaced
in fact i hope and believe that it's more than 20 years

im a painter who gave up on painting a long time ago, im more into poetry now.
chatgpt can vaguely imitate poems, but cant write a full Shakespearean play.

Once all the arts have been taken by robots i plan on becoming a historian or theologian

AI will do it better with less bias

Use AI to your advantage, you're safe either way but you'll have a huge advantage over the "ai is the devil" homosexuals.

Yes, AI is incredibly fragile software that requires a sysadmins tender touch.

You don't have any reason to fear AI as long as you run faster on the treadmill it creates.
