But your point stands, it doesn't matter whether a country is at war or not. My guess is Russians just don't give a frick about AI and only even think of it in terms of a tool for government power.

the US is not on a full-scale war right at their borders, it actually never was in it's entire history. external military operations against third worlders thousands of kms away from mainland is not even comparable.

Because Russia is a shithole with crumbling infrastructure, the highest rate of AIDS and the second highest rate of death by alcohol in Europe (after Belarus). Their government is so corrupt that when some official gets money by to fund a project they scrape of the top to buy private yachts and then produce the bare minimum so it looks good on the surface rather than actually doing their job. This is why you get shit like that guy dressing up as a robot during that Russian technology show a few years ago, because they needed to show of a robot, the money got skimmed and now they have to improvise and pretend.

henlo comrade, is it true that you are less likely to be drafted if you work IT in Russia? That's kind of what another Russian told me a year ago when I asked him if he was afraid of getting drafted, telling me they only pick the low income / low iq people currently.
Also, what do you think would happen if I were to visit Russia as a German? do you think people would hate me or be cautious, thinking I am a spy?

I'm pretty sure there is some truth to that. But I don't think this applies to all IT, it's only specific firms.
              >what do you think would happen if I were to visit Russia as a German?
In Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Volgograd, or other big cities? You'll most likely be fine. Just be aware that the lower the wealth of an average citizen in any given city is, the more likely they are to be lost to propaganda, and the greater the danger to your life is. I honestly think that there isn't a whole lot of worthwhile things to see here.

I'm not employed in it/cs field so take the following with a grain of salt.
Because in Russia AI isn't the current overhyped thing which is pushed by (non-existent in this limbo) big corporations and advertised to literally everyone. There's no artifical need generated in the public, and while mass media is busy excusing annihilating slav assess in Ukraine (both russian and ukrainian) it'll not appear. Devs are hyped, but they can only be leeches thanks to many obstacles from both the west and the government (being both economically canceled and suffering from rapidly strengthening censorship + rejection of foreign goods doesn't exactly encourage innovation). Gebnya glowies are probably doing something but it's 100% oriented towards military and roscompozor needs, civilians as always suck dicks.

There is supposed to be 3-5 sentences in a paragraph. If you haven't written three to five sentences you should not be adding so much whitespace. I need to put one more sentence in here. Okay, I could mark this as a paragraph, but I'm going for one more. Okay, now I should end it.

                Bam, a new paragraph.

Now I am going to be a Reddit user.

Look at all of this fricking white space.

that propaganda video was so funny, directly targeted at <90iq because nobody else will believe it
        >we are traveling in a foreign country and we are buying groceries to cook in our hotel room to save money
        >yes I'm a multimillionaire why do you ask
        >totally not a planned propaganda video
        >wow look so cheap
        >doesn't actually show what he bought so comparing prices is impossible
meanwhile data on numbeo shows grocery prices in Moscow are only between 20%-50% lower than in the West, but incomes are so much lower living standards are below EU Eastern Europe, not to mention America

Everyone in Russia is a boomer and they need warm bodies for the war.
There’s already cases of them pressing migrant workers from the Stan countries into service.

I don't watch Cucker Tarlson but I watched that interview recently since everyone said this, but I didn't see what was so bad or embarrassing about it. It was just a boring Russian history lecture with Professor Putler. Did I missing something?

The worst part of that interview was Putin’s gigantic narcissistic pseud aura.
When he compared planetary hemispheres directly to the hemispheres of brain my regard for his intelligence plummeted.

There's no reason for them to pursue AI, microchips, smartphones or the dotcom boom because they can just sell oil, subsidise beer and heating for the people, and then buy yachts with whats left for the rest of their natural lives.

That's not true at all. I live 1000km away from Moscow and it's nowhere near that bad in here. African tier poverty implies mass homelessness, starvation, and a lack of education. While there is a sizable amount of beggars (I'm not denying that this country is terrible and that our economy is shit), the overwhelming majority of people in my city seem well clothed and generally content with life. There are plenty schools, and the university I'm going to has sizable competition. It's far from the best place to live, but it's most certainly livable.

And neither would I or anyone I know. Although I have walked through the park I took that photo from at around 23:00 because I decided to go to Burger King for a late-ish dinner and forgot that public transport doesn't work past 22:00. I felt pretty safe because it was extremely flat and if there was anyone else there with me, I could have easily seen them coming.

    Russia is not the USSR.
Russia's technological advancements deeply diminished after the space race. They were fairly competitive with the US in which they were the first to send a satellite and man into space. But after that, they just completely flopped. The US was the first country to make the atom bomb, and Russia had to steal information because they couldn't do it on their own.

Name me three successful programming languages that came out through Russian-based enterprise.

The war is about control of the Ukranian pipelines and Russia’s access to the European energy market. The US’s largest foreign policy goal in Europe is to cut Russia off from that market — the reasons for that are a different discussion. About 12-15 years ago major shale reserves were discovered in Ukraine and the US started a project to bring Ukraine over to the West politically and to help develop those reserves to eventually replace Russian energy with Ukrainian energy and simultaneously using Ukraine’s control of the pipelines to cut Russia off from that market. The European market is what pays for Putin’s government and the main basis for their economy and the wealth of the main oligarchs. Russia worked with German allies to set up Nordstream as an insurance policy against being cut off by Ukraine — but the US opposed it and tried to kill NS2 politically and sanctioned the Germans over it, which probably pressured Putin into attempting the regime change in 2022. In 2014 Ukraine signed big development deals with Shell and Chevron and Putin invaded to stop that — which worked; oil companies will not start major projects near war zones and they pulled out of the deals. The regime change is needed from Putin’s perspective anyway because if the US won’t let NS exist then his access to that good European cash can be cut off at any time so he needs a friendly government in Ukraine. Even if the regime change failed he has no choice to win anyway at any cost because losing means that he’ll lose the market forever and that will probably be the end of his government and the oligarchs. They have a lot of cash and India + China are bailing them out financially so they’re willing to keep going for the time being. It’s an existential threat to Putin and his circle — not to them personally in the short term, but to their dynasties being inherited by their children, ie, a new Russian aristocracy.

Damn, that's a pretty good rundown. What about grain, though? Isn't China a net importer of food? If China and Russia want to be independent of the west they'd do well to contol "the bread-basket of Europe" for themselves. Also controlling the food supply could help them bring more poor nations under their orbit.

Jews seems kinda tangential in a lot of these conflicts; if Russia promised Israel weapons and gave them a free nuke palestine card, I bet they'd take it and join their orbit. Israel is also very cozy with the CCP, and always has been. I don't think you can make much sense of this new cold war in terms of israelites vs non israelites. Also, technology.
