True, but politics aren't any different from technical discourse. There are objective truths in politics as well, it's not just a matter of opinions/preferences or to each their own. We just haven't gotten around to finding or convincing it.
There are objective truths but there is no practical application for the common man. Being the smartest politician or the most well versed in politics doesn't mean that you have a chance at being able to actually use that information. In the US at least you can have any opinion you want but the direction of the country is still spearheaded by an insular group of weird baby rapists who just want power.
Because things like ethics aren't technical topics, the people who have the power to enforce these discussions constantly always point towards ethical issues rather than technical limitations and practical applications. They fearmonger because the extent of their knowledge firmly rests on the humanitarian side rather than the computer scientist side.
What I'm saying is, in the history of the US I feel like maybe once or twice the government has actually cited some technical definitions when it came to legislation. Particularly the Sony v Bleem case. I don't feel like any politicians now give a shit about what things technically are and are now focusing entirely on optics and what makes the masses feel good rather than protecting the rights of the people who work in one of the most profitable sectors of the US.
The only issue with AI training is copyright, and I seem to recall millions of content creator types bitching about having to abide by the rule of the law, and now we have more weird trannies complaining about not being restricted enough.
