Why are so many people in denial about AI replacing jobs?
This is especially noticeable with artists on Twitter. They are absolutely seething that AI can make better art in seconds than they can in weeks. The amount of mental gymnastics I've seen from certain people about AI is astounding to me. How can people not see the writing on the wall?
What exactly do you sad morons not understand about "it's apologetic garbage, moving on"?
People have been talking about the threat of automation since the start of the industrial revolution. Nothing significant has happened yet, and no the current layoffs in Tech are not the result of LLMs.
cope
Nice trips, but there is nothing to "cope". There is a shortage of workers globally, nothing is going to happen.
I'm an independent software engineer and the demand for my services has exploded, because i'm about 5 times faster at producing software than i used to be
Yeah everyone is 5 times faster. Now use your brain for a second
>supply goes up 5x
>demand is the same
What happens to the price of your services?
It's extremely noticeable right here, most of bot is in pure denial that THEIR job be replaced. No, all 100% of anons here will be in the top 1% and get to keep their jobs, apparently
no one really depends on us so we're not too worried about losing our jobs which we don't have
It will replace jobs, but that's par for the course of *any* major technological breakthrough. That's just how it goes.
no, you don't get it, people here want the AI to replace jobs, because they think they hate the people who have those jobs
But what the frick do they do for a living? I'm a 3D guy, I know my days are numbered, I'll just retire once the gig is up personally
probably NEETS or wal-mart greeters or convenience store clerks
>convenience store clerks
.....anon
those were the first to go years ago
in what reality?
if youre not in US i can understand but if you are EVERYTHING is self checkout. hell gas stations now have self checkout.
you need 1 clerk to manage 15+ registers
I see self-checkout at grocery stores but they still have regular checkout lines. and the big chains are phasing out self-checkout
Every 7/11 and gas station and convenience store has at least one real person inside running things. Only the bigger stores have self-checkout for additional lines
Burger here,
is accurate. Big box stores either never did or quickly dropped. Local Walmart tried to go 90% self-checkout, and now they have 8 employees monitoring 10 self-checkout stations + AI video surveillance that makes them harass customers over 'missed scan' false positives while Jamal walks out with a cart of shit he didn't scan. It's a joke.
The only shops that use it successfully don't really need it.
>while Jamal walks out with a cart of shit he didn't scan. It's a joke.
why do people do this shit.
or you pay for the conventional bananas when you actually grabbed the organic bananas. or do any other kind of produce-related switcheroo. it's easy to do accidentally, too
Because society is a lie. You would've known this if you hadn't been an obedient little goy having his head filled with them during school lessons. Jamal was the smart one; he simply didn't attend.
Machines destroy jobs, Anon, it's what machines do.
And that's supposed to be a good thing, we're supposed to be living in luxury once machines do all the jobs. Not sure why that part isn't playing out
it never works out that way. technological advances that kill jobs increase the labor surplus which is good for the owner class
Coping, coping and seething, anon. They got meme degrees, because they think math is hard
And we all know AI will never be good at math. Anon you're the one coping here, the one keeping their jobs is the pretty lady greeting customers at the lobby not the tech nerd.
Who do you think is developing AI anon?
definitely not BOTtards with their meme WGU degrees. It's math PhDs who learned to code on the side for the most part, and actual computer scientists, who are rare and very different from tech nerds
The people who will be replaced by AI in the future. You can't seriously think that machines will never understand themselves better than humans do. It's pretty much designed for machines to take over at one point.
Thank god I'm a web developer. AI won't take my job for at least another 10 years.
>This is especially noticeable with artists on Twitter. They are absolutely seething that AI can make better art in seconds than they can in weeks
most of them are genuinely upset BECAUSE they know they'll be replaced. A few are in denial but they're aminority.
The ones who are still in denial are programmers. They constantly move the goalpost. A few years ago was "wake me up when it can center a div" then "wake me up when it can understand business requirements" now it's "I'll worry when it's AGI" as if AGI were strictly necessary to replace most codemonkeys
AI art isnt art simply put, because art is best defined as creative work by a human to respond to the world and themselves.
It is a commodity that resembles art though, it will replace the role that the artist plays in the art market, which already treats artists like AI designed to crank out 100 copies of something that was once meaningful. The visual artist brad troemel talked about how his plan is to use AI to make millions of copies of shit that what he calls "the wealth criminals who buy art" make so that he can get paid and use the money to focus on honing his own practice outside the demands of a market (pic related, its one of his digital pieces).
ok but actual art for the sake of art artists are like 0.1% of artists so they're not relevant for the discussion
if the financial incentives to produce art gets crippled then there will be way less artists
There is currently no financial incentive to produce art lol. It is literally almost statistically impossible to make any real money from making fine art. Not rare, essentially impossible. The path from small gallery to medium to blue chip does not exist anymore because most of the medium galleries are closing. Most people doing it are doing are working in tertiary functions within the art world, i.e. the receptionists at selling galleries, educators, etc.
The people who are trying to live off commissions or whatever because they draw furry porn are a different story, and they're gonna do that anyway whether theyre paid to or not.
again you pivot to fine art and not the twitter coomer slop everyone whining is thinking about
no one gives a shit about museums
Miles Mathis is a very good classically trained artist and he lives off of paypal donations for the conspiracy PDFs he makes instead of off his art. there is no money in fine art.
>The people who are trying to live off commissions or whatever because they draw furry porn are a different story, and they're gonna do that anyway whether theyre paid to or not.
Coomers don’t draw for money, they draw to coom. They try and make some money on the side, but they’re still gonna do it. Deviantart in 2009 is ample evidence of this.
AI generated coomer art has no audience except people (I presume) like you who crank off to it. Human made coomer art has a bigger audience because when I see like that drawing of sonic the hedgehog surgically turned into a toilet bowl with shadow as the water tank, I can imagine the inner life of the dude who drew it, and that’s what makes it funny and enjoyable. If a computer came up with Sonichu, who would care?
Firstly, basically every now famous painter died broke. So there was never a financial incentive. Secondly, high artists are not threatened by AI art models. They can only generate ideas that already exist, because the prompter must prompt for the idea. High art is about creating new ideas. Third, it is mostly folk artists, the people who do furry commissions, who are threatened, because they are basically just illustrators. There isn't really a lot of "art" in it.
Simply put, IT support will employ 0 human beings in the next couple years. Company IT depts will reduce in size by like 75%. Most jobs around maintenance and updating of software are out too. So if your job involves fixing things or making incremental upgrades to software... learn a new skill. A bit after that, human's will never write a line of code ever again, and software engineering will be a thing of the past.
Soon after, humans will no longer be the ones prompting the AI to develop new software.
The average person's economic intuitions are moronic bordering delusional.
For instance, people tend to ignore inflation because they don't think it has anything to do with increased wages.
In this case, people think there is a maximum number of jobs that need doing and once they're all filled anyone else will just be left unemployed, so they whine about immigrants and automation. In reality jobs being filled creates wealth and wealth creates more work, it's how it's always worked. Agriculture has been thoroughly automated in first world countries and now a tiny fraction of people are farmers. In the past, practically everyone was. This is the equivalent of going back in time to the 1700s and telling farmers they'll be enormously more wealthy in the future and there'll be far less demand for farmers. You couldn't explain what half the fricking shit people do these days is to them, nor how they make so much money relative to him when they don't even produce anything edible.
money is paid through labor. no need for labor means no money flowing around. absent some sort of new economic system that just gives people money to do stuff (This is incredibly bad for everyone in charge) the velocity of money will continue to slow.
>this man was a boy once
unreal.
I see myself slowly transforming into looking like that.
it's such a wonder
t. 27 yo man
>artists on Twitter
Nobody cares about those low life scumbags. Even crackheads are far better respected that those troony/troony-stan fricks.
Noooooooooooooooo, please think of the celebrities! and wannabe actor/musician/famous/artist/homosexuals!
All degenerates, every one of them, just like the "cartoonists", "music industry".
AI is purifying humanity, let it do its job.
Can someone please consider the feelings and the future of narcissists and people who don't want to work???
correct. i was always the best at drawing in school, never considered for a second to pursue it as a career because i'm not a moron.
It's only coomer artists losing their jobs.
