When did we start calling AI "AGI"?

All of a sudden, especially on this board, "AGI" is being used to describe what we have always called AI. What happened? Seems NPC-like to suddenly start calling it something else.

I pissed someone off by making them realize true artificial intelligence isn't making India poo memes with an image prompt. True A.I. should be able to write, overwrite and compile it's own code.

we didn't. it's a shill campaign by the sam's openai gay team to try and paper over the drama that just went down.

companies like openAi lie about their tech and what is possible, because doing so lets them raise shit tons of money. whey does openai have 700 employees? how does it pay for them? raising money. a new keyword is just another variation of the same grift.

Because they can't call their shitty not-really-AI products AI unless they rename AI to something else.

    Frick them.
    It's AI, not AGI.
    It's UFO, not UAP.
    It's a shot, not a jab.

      >It's a shot, not a jab
I have been saying that since the beginning.
"Jab" sounds softer and less threatening than "shot" and that's why that term was pushed.

AGI is a term that's literally decades old.

Why all of a sudden it's showing up everywhere then?

And you didn't also notice how suddenly the term is popping up everywhere?

It only started popping up recently, because up until recently, non-general AIs weren't really a thing, so there was no practical need to differentiate. The term was used in academic circles only.
The need only arose when things like chatgpt, stable diffusion, etc. entered public awareness.

I'm on this board every day.

Because it's in the news. And it's in the news because until now, claiming to be coming up on agi or trying to generate hype for it would get you laughed at.

This tells me that it's an npc phenomenon to suddenly refer to it as AGI now.

          HOLY SHIT IS THIS REAL??!

    >all of a sudden
Except this term goes back more than a decade. You can listen to people like Ben ~~*Goertzel*~~ use it in talks from the late 2000s at least.

People who actually use the technology without some agenda would call something like training a neural network with some hybrid approach "machine learning". Using a term like "AI" is a thing that people have used in movies/TV to dumb it down and then also startups/researchers called machine learning "AI" because that's what gets you the investment or grant money.

AGI came about because of the overuse of the term "AI" to describe what is essentially machine learning and narrow focused things. The "general" being added to show that people were going after something humanlike (broad focus) as opposed to narrower focus (getting NPCs to click more ads, play chess, etc).

Too lazy too look up my claim. Too arrogant to admit you might be wrong. What the frick am I supposed to be shilling here exactly moron?

Here's one of many references to AGI by a researcher in the field:
        https://multiverseaccordingtoben.blogspot.com/2009/07/first-agi-summer-school-in-xiamen-china.html

You read the literature, go to the conferences you'll know the term has been around for a long time. If however you get everything from YouTube grifters, you might just be an uninformed moron.

I have 8 years of coding experience and ai is a glorified search engine hahahah ask the ai to give you powerOn coding examples and see it bug out. Made my own gpt chat bot 2 years ago. Stuff is not special. They have a built in weight counter and threshold. that's how it chooses what to say/do. Once you understand how they operate its not very impressive anymore

The ai will never give you powerOn code it will give you examples on how to make something power on or JavaScript or any Langue BUT NEVER powerOn because its a dumb search engine with Probability. Integrated.

You're actually correct. It's an npc thing.

Npcs use acronyms in place of actual words in their minds where as non programmed humans think the entire acronym as words.

This happens because the programmed don't appear to have an internalised monologue of voice. Their lexicon forms their thoughts in real time.

So when a new variant on the acronym appears they will assume it's different and make no mental associations to the former version.

That's what the kyiev shit was all about. In this case I think the ai circle wank is trying to talk it up.
