Fat frick can introspect and wonder "What if I am the bad guy?" and decline to participate. T1000 will just kill with no other thoughts.

the U.S uses an indoctrination program designed to train people to kill without hesitation
apparently surprisingly few soldiers actually shot to kill in Vietnam, after reviewing statistics they developed a training program
nowadays "fat frick" is a low iq teenager whose been brainwashed, they put the young dumb ones on the front because statistically they are the most likely to kill without hesitation and the programming is more effective

they already use AI weapons, drone operators just give the final "ok" after looking at some grainy footage - bot does the rest. there is an AI system already in use tracking targets autonomously, the Pentagon would like to remove operators from the equation is all this article says.

Those rocket launchers the Ukrainians love so much? They use an image recognition system that seeks the target autonomously after it is fired. To shoot you point it at a tank or w/e and the launcher uploads targeting data to the missile.
we're way more than halfway to T1000

This is a meme, right? They already had a shit ton of data from WW2 that bomber crews experienced basically zero guilt or trauma about the amount of killing they did. I'm sure the US (or any modern military, to some degree) design training programs that attempt to abstract away the dreadful work of actually killing people, but I feel like that story is apocryphal.

            Anonymous

it is. No one but actual murderes and psychopaths join the military to get a license to kill. I recall reading an article, or a paper maybe, that says military and police have higher rates of people who used to be school bullies or violent in school joining up. Because as they grow up, they realise they can't get away with their shit in normal society, so they join the military or police, for state-sanctioned violence.

Yeah, they might be exceptions. But, there were fair share of psychpaths there too. Most of the people drafted in Vietnam actually took duty in Europe whilst the volunteers fought in 'Nam, busy in My Lai.

the fat frick can be prosecuted for war crimes. AI is going to become a responsibility shield for all sorts of crimes. Its like when the goverment cant send a sniper to assassinate somebody because its against international law so they just drop bombs on the whole neighborhood and kill him along with lots of collateral damage.

        >the fat frick can be prosecuted for war crimes
When was the last time an American was prosecuted for war crimes while doing what the Pentagon wanted him to do?

        Anonymous

        >AI is going to become a responsibility shield for all sorts of crimes.
No. It does not work that way. While Hollywood presents war as just brakka-brakka where the bad guys die in droves at the flick of a switch, there is in fact a lot of legal concerns behind how this works.
There is always a command loop and there is always a human in the loop, specifically one that is legally responsible. In a battle tanks, it is gunner that presses the trigger, but only on the orders of the commander that holds legal responsibility.
A homing missile has some intelligence today. It stands to reason to assume more intelligence will be coming up. Nevertheless, it is the fighter pilot that launches the missile that holds the legal responsibility. And it is the officer with the legal responsibility that can be prosecuted for war crimes, not the AI, never the missile guidance module, not any other machine.

It's an indelible stain on the fat frick's soul. He will carry those sins for eternity, and in this life or the next he will have to atone for his sins, balance the karmic ledger, so to speak. An AI has no soul. It's ultimately just a bunch of silicon logic gates working with low voltages and high frequencies, and as last year's nobel prize recipient in physics demonstrated, matter has no standalone existence outside of conciousness.

Now you're inside the base next to a pile of Amazon boxes, on the porch of an office building. To the North you see the door to the office, to the South is the road leading out the gate which you arrived through, to the East you see a running track where several runners are doing laps, to the West is a road which passes the Mess Hall and continues to the rest of the base. In the distance you hear indistinct shouts, a helicopter motor, and what sounds like muffled cries in a foreign language coming from the basement window below you.

"AI" is a marketing term, we just have very good ML models.
Humans still have 100% control over what AI (and technology in general) is used for, people are the issue, not the tech, people are ALWAYS the issue, but blaming the technology and the researchers behind it is easier for the cattle then using their brains for a second and realizing that this is an issue caused by the government.
