coping because you sold? How can you say AI is overhyped when Sora just dropped? No one could envision such a thing just 5 years ago. I don’t think anyone realizes this. But we’ve just accepted it and people like you already think that nothing else will come next.

Researchers were generating photorealistic videos of bees and cats in 2013. The only difference is that people with too much money have been conned into thinking that such generated content is somehow monetizable when it ironically destroys the entire model of paying for slop.

how? the masses will not have access to this technology. the only ones that will be able to afford to use it are the ones that will be saving millions of dollars by generating slop to sell to consumers

Sora is actually the only thing that could destroy market confidence. Dall-E is sort of good enough to be excited about, SD is amazing, but then Sora has come along and shown something that couldn't be generated with current user-grade computational power, so can't be trusted. Makes the whole thing, again, seem like bullshit.

The Gemini fiasco seems to be hitting public perception pretty bad, I've seen a lot of people who where previously bullish on AI start to express doubts in the last 24 hours. Like "maybe I don't want it if this is what it's gonna be." Even leftists who normally support anything that looks like it owns the chuds aren't defending it.

No one cares about Google, they are firmly established as the Washington Generals of AI now. OpenAI and MS can now just leisurely release polished tech that normies understand, while meta pushes open source. They aren't part of the equation except as a meme to shit on.

They sell the shovels in the AI revolution, nobody even comes close.
Stock split soon, this shit is not going down.

Thing is when the gold rush actually kicks off the shovels will be an outdated technology and the company making advanced gold digging equipment may not even exist yet. That's why dot com bubble was a thing even though the Internet wasn't a fad. People bought shovels but in a few years everyone was using shovels 2.0 and shovel 1.0 makers got fricked

        >shovel 1.0 makers got fricked
shovel 1.0 BUYERS got fricked. the makers lost valuation because it was all speculative but still came out the winners. dotcom looks catastrophic for Intel on a graph but all but one of their competitors stopped existing, they've been #1 for years.

Yep. The tides are already turning.

    A story:
I've been telling everyone about how """AI""" works and how it's just a big fricking copy/paste database with no actual intelligence. My friends mostly ignored me and they just kept playing with ChatGPT. They even bought the subscription. They said it was going to make their jobs and life so much easier.

Today? NONE of them still use ChatGPT.

This might be one of those once-in-a-lifetime wealth opportunities for those of us in the know. The hysteria has gone into overdrive and that's typically the biggest top signal of all.

I use chatGPT to help with code. Anyway, what do you mean by “actual intelligence” ? Don’t you just mean that it isn’t intelligent enough? That’s just because even AI isn’t as complex as the human brain. It doesn’t have enough parameters, not enough computing power. These problems will be solved with time. The human brain is the product of 3 billion years of evolution. ChatGPT is only a few years old

Don't argue definitions that always leads to a circular argument. It's not intelligence.

AI is a hype, it's going to improve like it has been for 40 years. But it's not going to be what people think it is in a year. Bay area investor money is tasty tho.

The real issue is the limitations of GPUs and current hardware. So yes NVIDIA the sky's the limit.

cheap chinky GPUs not subject to muh sanctions limitations will inevitably BTFO nVidia.

US government has essentially said you're not allowed to create a consumer GPU more powerful then a 4080.
You want more VRAM for AI models? too bad, apply for a government loicense and get financially raped by overpriced workstation cards.

This is hardly the peak. Companies have been overly cautious because of the legal risk AI can have. But once they start dipping their toes into it and people stop having AI hysteria, it's when the actual professional applications start

Yeah they have Google literally removed Geminis ability to generate images of humans until they can stop it from being racist which is almost impossible. And all useful LLMs are so fricking censored they're almost useless. Gemini is censored so hard it can't even "depict fantasy situations of harm to a living creature"
