Hopefully it improves the technology, would be nice if anime dubs actually sounded like the original Japanese VAs.

I'm happy for there to be no voice acting or voice at all.

If this wrecks the shitty little cliques that formed amongst voice actors it'll be a net positive.

      >The Finals is an upcoming first-person shooter, developed and published by Nexon subsidiary Embark Studios. The game focuses on team-based matches on environmentally-destructible maps, where players are encouraged to use the dynamic environment to their advantage.

Are there some samples of what it sounds like? Since that's all that really matters at the end of the day

sounds like shit honestly, the technology just isn't there yet. some lines are cut abruptly, some other lines that are meant to have pauses in between them are just spewed out one after another. most lack emphasis. not that this kind of stuff matters in the slightest as long as the game is fun, but this particular aspect is evidently flawed

nbd if you can just edit it in post. AI still needs supervision

why wasn't this an issue back when Siri and Alexa and Cortana came out? why do people act like all this new AI shit is so amazing when it's been embedded in Apple and Winblows for a decade?

LLMs aren't AI either. The only reason people call them as such is because of marketers, and those same marketers tried to convince everyone that Siri and Cortana were "smart."

Those are just text to speech.
Some voice actor was used to say all the words and sounds needed.

Why does PC gaymer and so many other "news" websites have such a huge hate boner against anything ai related that they write hit pieces like this every chance they get?

Because they feel their job security is threatened and the powers that be want to pull up the ladder behind them.

I have played the game heavily and didn't even realize that any of the voices were AI. Maybe if you listen them in isolation you might pick it up, but in the heat of a battle, you can't really tell.

It is absolutely over for voice actors. The most talented and recognizable ones will still get jobs in the future, but 100% they will start to use AI on basically all the side characters. It also makes sense for games as you can later edit without voice lines if the game or mechanics change without having to get the original voice actor.
