There is a big reason the board suddenly fired him, and I'm increasingly persuaded that it is a big AI breakthrough

Makes sense to me. When things go well, you fire your top levels. When shit goes bad, you give them a raise. Just like mozilla is doing with the yass slay queen CEO.

It also make sense for the "lack of candor" rumor that's been floated... The board are a bunch of do-gooders "protecting humanity" or whatever and Sam wasn't telling it they are nearing AGI because he knew they'd make him slow down. A group of researchers wrote that letter to the board and they shit a brick.

Imagine being so profoundly moronic. Bet you believed it when the same PR campaign was run by google "oooooh le sentient le AI escaping le google labs". That was you.
Meanwhile in real life everyone is getting off openai because they can't maintain their service for shit and non-tech people are finally slowly realizing LLMs aren't in fact sentient and their magical app ideas for their company aren't working out, so the few who really do have a use for LLMs are going self-hosted to not have to deal with 50% downtime.

    >In yet another head-spinning twist at OpenAI, Sam Altman was reinstated as the company's chief executive on Tuesday night, a mere five days after the OpenAI board had fired him. The board will be overhauled and a new set of directors, including Bret Taylor and Lawrence Summers, will join.

You're either lying or very misinformed about the capabilities of the current LLMs. Go tell ChatGPT to make an app, see what the result is. It's not viable.

It can generate code, but it can't write an actual app unless you're just talking about some trivial toy app. I use them to automate some aspects of coding as well, but the claim was that they could make an app or video game from an English language description. This is just not possible.

It's very possible, just have it map the sentences to entities, verbs, and predicate objects, and then represent those object relationships in a UI.

normie press trying to keep AI hype going because this dude was the biggest pusher of it and now he is fired from OpenAI so they know the hype train will be slowing down.
this guy will be working at microgay instead who have long been struggling to make a decent AI and eventually invested into OpenAI to try and piggyback off of that.

wel its actually capital spreading propaganda to get the wagies comfortable and familiarised with the idea of getting replaced by actual slaves (again). this will be very profitable for some (very few) people. if only we had a democratic right to say anything about it (we dont, we are not rich).
it sucks that a lot of chuddies got pozzed by this bot propaganda at some point.

This OpenAI leadership scuffle has absolutely nothing to do with the technology in question and everything to do with the cutthroat power games of psychopathic c-suite executives. If the CEO of some random manufacturing company was ousted, nobody would care, even if it was for the exact same reasons as what happened here. Rich fricks gonna rich frick. I do not care

AI is world-changing technology and a 6 person board of directors will vote to oust the CEO and head scientist out of maybe the most important company in the world right now? On a whim?

Yes actually. Are you not familiar with boardroom politics? It's petty shit. CEOs are replaceable.

          >AI is world-changing technology and a 6 person board of directors will vote to oust the CEO and head scientist out of maybe the most important company in the world right now? On a whim?
Yes. Welcome to the world of high-end business, a magical place where egos supersede even the most level headed of thinkers.

The CEO and lead researcher of the most important technology/movement of the world was fired by the board immediately, without consulting Microsoft. They did it for VERY BIG reasons, not because of ego's. Either Sam did something VERY bad or he did not tell the board about something VERY important--like "we've achieved AGI".
When was the last time a literal world leader was fired from something so important? Steve Jobs was never as important as Sam Altman is in this moment.

            >sam altman is important
he is just another faceless corporategay, he used to be on the board of reddit iirc.
he can be replaced by any other suit who can do a good job of bringing money into open ai.
the reason he is being hyped is because he was the guy promising to keep the AI grift going and pushing open ai to release gpt-5 or whatever instead of doing actual research. too many people in silicon valley have bet their houses on the AI hype and they need it to go at least far enough until they can cash out.

        >World-changing
        It's auto-complete. Literally just auto-complete.
It will mean low-level customer support and IT types get a tier below them to weed out the dumbest callers. It means clickbait writers will get paid even less and will put even more of a premium on the actually good ones.
But at the end of the day it's still moronic and will need a person riding herd to make sure the customer service bot doesn't give someone a lifetime 50% off discount since it thinks that fits best in the pattern of the conversation.
