Okay but seriously what are the practical uses for AI?

Okay but seriously what are the practical uses for AI?

Surely a company can't just go from 1 trillion to 2 trillion dollars in valuation in under a month if the technology has no practical uses? What is ChatGPT useful for exactly besides fricking around with it for amusement? It can't code, it doesn't give you useful information, the most it can do it rewrite paragraphs. 1 trillion dollars for this?

Surely the entire business world can't be this moronic?

It can code and it can give useful information.

      >It can code
It really can't. I've tried using it for my job and feeding it my already existing code and trying to get it to produce anything useful and it just can't.
It doesn't understand how to code conforming to existing architecture, it doesn't understand how to subclass functions properly, and god forbid you try to do any data modeling or networking.

The most you can get it to do is write basic functions for basic data models, anything more complicated and it starts shitting itself and spitting out code that won't even compile.

I guess it can replace year 1 compsci students, big whoop?

        Try feeding it good code.

that'll be desperately needed since most people under 25 cannot read or write

Honestly, I love it for this. I suck ass at replying to business emails. I like to be blunt and straight to the point, but it's hard to break down IT/Cyber concepts to PM's or leadership within your company. Using it to re-write what I said into bullshit business-speak they can understand is a godsend.

give it 6 months before every company that tries putting you on the phone with an ai generated voice chatgpt bot drops it over the hundreds of complaints they receive

The point is that it does 90% of the job for 1% of the cost.
The other 10% of the job is what really matters, but bean counters haven't seen far enough to figure that part out.

I use AI to write self-insert stories about me and my waifu, and generate images of us together.

ChatGPT is not the only AI out there. Chat format is a pretty moronic use of GPT model anyway.
