It's pretty easy to tell if an essay is written by a bot, actually. The lack of a coherent point/opinion is pretty glaring. It just takes time to read whereas images can be taken in at a glance.
The bar for a sentence is far lower than the bar for a picture.

If essays were all laser focused on the central issue at hand they'd be two paragraphs long tops. Go read Kirkegaard's Fear and Trembling if you want to see someone dance around a point for 100 pages.
OP, have them present and defend their theses in person. If they can't explain their own paper, it's a dead giveaway. Also, check for consistency in writing style. AI-generated stuff can be unnaturally polished or sometimes overly verbose. Good luck!
Detecting whether something is written by AI can be challenging, but a few clues to look for include unusually consistent formatting, lack of emotional depth or personal experiences, and the absence of common human errors in grammar and punctuation. Additionally, if the content seems too coherent or excessively verbose, it might be indicative of AI-generated text.
>and the absence of common human errors in grammar and punctuation.
This is so fucking stupid. My university started flagging proofread papers as AI-assisted because it didn't have any grammar and punctuation errors. No shit it's not going to have those: I'm being graded on my writing!
i wish i saved some r9k cunt's "ideal bf" material
she did warn everyone that it's retarded. and god damn it was the most mind melting retarded woman shit that you can't even imagine as a male
your post reminds me of her post
Good chance they're already struggling mark-wise so just ask if they want bonus marks, send them a random paragraph from their own work and ask them if they know the author.
If they reply with anything other than "me" then ask them to come in, give them a shaking down and see which ones crack. Don't imply it's just AI but also list it alongside plagarism.
If it's still a good paper, I don't see the problem. If it's bad or rambling without saying anything, then grade it low based on that. They'll either have to write it themselves in the future, or become better at generating papers with AI.
Stop caring
There were already ways to cheat by having other people write it or copying it and changing the words
Hell, where I live there are even paid services to write your papers
If a student wants to hurt himself by cheating, you can't stop him
Just make it clear its absolutely forbidden to use aAI
Easiest thing to do was rewrite the wikipedia article and use wikipedia sources as your own
But I only did it once
I actually enjoyed writing papers the proper way
Almost as fun as coding
Just let them, then have them defend the whole thing in front of a small audience, like the entire class or some kind of tribunal or whatever the fuck
They'll be forced to actually double check and read the whole thing they shit out, also understand it to a tee, if they managed to do that, then what's the issue?
I remember when my cockend of a brother in law claimed I'd used copypasta during an argument about Brexit on a family Facebook page. The cheeky fucker claimed I'd copied my post that it was a massive mistake for the United Kingdom to leave the European Union, from a website, as if I couldn't come to the conclusion myself and I had to copy someone else's musings to win an argument. I almost drove the 60 miles to my sister's house to slap the daft cunt.
Adapt like everyone else has had to do when a new major technological development has occurred. Stop evaluating students based off muh papers. You're a professor so I'm sure you have enough IQ points to think of something (lol).
unless you are teaching middle school children then let them.
They're old enough to take charge of their own futures, if they wanna cheat then let them.
If they're actually middle schoolers then they shouldn't be smart enough to use it anyway. On the off chance they do figure it out, a firewall rule should prevent them from doing it anymore
They were paying a Venezuelan $2 to write it for them before.
Uh i need the papers to be written by actual people with emotions not jarvis
What is the difference? These agent systems are fuzzy exactly like organic processing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yQEA18C-XI&t=5440
such them off in exchange for them not to do that
have then recite it from memory
ask them "why" about various things
Kill them.
only sane advice in the whole thread
You know whats funny? Its easy to discern if a pic is AI generated while you hardly cant tell if a sentence is made by a bot

I can pick out Google Bard writings really easily after using it for a semester to finish up my degree
I can usually tell on longer BOT posts

That's because most people are NPC retards who can barely piece together a coherent thought.
threaten to expel the hottest girl then get sexual favors for looking the other way
Make them defend their thesis. If they didn't write it, they're not going to handle any scrutiny.
isn't this always required? there the hell you can pass a thesis without defending it?
most the threads on this board are bots but people act like they can't tell

Just use AI to grade them, luddite.

it's fucking academia you are talking about
it's almost like it was written by AI or something
Like your post?
yes dumbass, congrats on finally understanding
Have you seen the safe space rooms on campus? College is nothing but feelings. It has to be for indoctrination to work.

ouch BURN

go to the r9k archive and get digging
After they turn the papers in ask each one for detailed explanations during class.
make them turn in paper essays
give them an oral exam
More focus on exams
Controlled assignments on standalone computers
No mobile devices
rape correction
are you not the fucking teacher retard?
if your own students trick you what are you even doing? literally get good
>just tell if its AI or not

make them write during class to gauge their aptitude but that means you cant be giving them 10 page report requirements

i was stealing papers and then rewriting them from scratch so they won't get caught by the copycat spotting software long time before "AI"

Accept that your job is now useless crap
They're the ones paying for the class, why do you care?
Because on a fundamental level OP realises that the piece of paper he's charged with overseeing is completely meaningless, and it nags at him.
Find logical errors in the text and have an oral exam discussing them.
There is a site that allows you to check for AI generated text.
Confront or fail them if it gets detected.
Just let them, then have them defend the whole thing in front of a small audience, like the entire class or some kind of tribunal or whatever the fuck

Did your BiL grew up staring on iPad screens?

Oral exams
Just fuck your female students and shut up. Goddamnit, what is your problem? They pay 40k a semester and you have to make their life hard?
the absolute state of humanity
