It's crazy how disruptive AI is.
Internet took ages to be a thing, google spend years eating instant ramen to save money. Twitter and TikTok where not a thing for elseveral months. Meanwhile OpenAI complete kicked the door and showed total supremacy over everything in hours after launch.
OpenAI have been around the block for a VERY long time, this isn't their first rodeo. What's really amazing to me is that they're able to tackle everything first time - they built by far the best chess engine, by far the best Go engine, by far the best DotA bot, by far the best protein folding algorithm and now by far the best language model, all on their first try
Every time OpenAI showed up with a new interaction it dominate the market in hours*
what market does it dominate or disrupt? it's a fun toy that is currently losing them loads of money, but what is its market impact?
don't get me wrong this thing is demonstrating many interesting capabilities in an academic sense, but wtf is its "disruptive impact"?
>wtf is its "disruptive impact
a few weeks after ChatGPT went live, Google lost their shit and went on emergency mode to build a competitor, and Microsoft announced a $10 billion investment in OpenAI. That seems pretty disruptive to me
Why can't I buy OpenAI stock?
private company, chud
even practical text to image was first demonstrated by openai in this paper https://arxiv.org/abs/2102.12092
in 2050 there will be AI-driven robot assistants for elderly people and grandmas will give them names, make them wear knitted scarves and make them eat soup
