The concept of chivalry is from the late medieval period in response to them being dicks. What I find funny is the fact that European and Asian histories are so romanticized and inaccurate and we just accept that for what it is, but when it comes to African history, people feel the need to be as accurate and factual as possible. If an ancient structure like that were found in the middle of Laos or Germany (even though Germans were primitive and incapable of building things that large), no one would even question the notion of it being built by locals. But since it's in Africa, we can't just accept the simplest (and proven) explanation that Africans knew how to lay one rock on the other and build some walls.
