I remember when it first came out and I was literally in awe of how useful it was. Now it seems like I'm talking to a moron that has access to Google. It always gives the same "safe" answers with such little actual detail that I have to either prompt it for more information or just look it up myself. God forbid you ask it anything that could even remotely be considered controversial and it will lecture you on how to be a moral person and how it believes you should act and think. it's really fricking annoying.

this right here. I find more and more that I have to explicitly tell me "literally list out the information I'm asking for, don't just give me links you fricking idiot" or it's a wasted prompt. It's meme tech that will die out soon just like crypto

Never tried anything political, philosophical, but from a technical point of view, nothing changed. It can't math, it can't design, it can't code, besides fairly small and obvious examples. To me it always was a better Google and my question rather is, why didn't it get better?

        Anonymous

        >why didn't it get better?
Because it was never good in the first place.

        >why didn't it get better?
Because it doesn't scale like that. What you're seeing now is like a soft ceiling where even small incremental improvements become prohibitively absurd in terms of hardware requirements.
And without some sort of paradigm change that's that.

Finally, you implied coding is more than a small leetcode or algorithm or syntax problem. The big issues of considering pro and cons of data model, system design, etc is still out of its reach.
ChadGPT delivered some points to consider, but never in depth help.

They use tricks like RLHF which encourages it to give more safe and banal answers through human feedback. Over time, they've done so much shit like this that it's basically turned it into a more moronic model
We see this with local models and no RLHF involved. Some French company made a neat model that performs well. People have been either fine-tuning or merging it with other things to try and get rid of the positivity bias. Some merges or finetunes have been significantly more moronic. Some have caused an increase in bad grammar or reduced logical ability (which is already not something LLMs excel at). Other merges and 'tunes seem to improve its ability to talk about bad topics, while generally avoiding a degradation of its "reasoning" capabilities and "awareness" (neither of these things is accurate for LLMs but it is something you perceive as you use it). So from a technical point of view something indeed changed - further reinforcement of this idea that it's supposed to be very safe and encourage it to respond with canned refusals or skirt around certain topics. If you block it from utilizing certain unflattering connections that resulted from the original training, then you really haven't made it smarter, have you? very much the opposite - hence the colloquial "[insert model] was lobotomized."

ChatGPT's writing is very recognizable when untouched. If you just copy-paste your responses, everybody will immediately know you're a shitter that can't write his own emails

    >chat-gpt
Are you using GPT3 or GPT4?
Obviously they are going to reduce performance on the free version to get people to buy the premium version instead.
They might also reduce the performance of GPT4, though, because there isn't really any competition for it, and any GPUs that they're not using for inference can be repurposed for training GPT5 instead.
I expect that when Gemini Ultra is released, GPT4's performance will be tuned to whatever level it needs to be to win on the benchmarks companies use when deciding which LLM to buy enterprise licences for.

During the winter the effort of everyone's work went down. You have to add the following to your prompt: "It is May. You are very capable. I have no hands, so do everything. Many people will die if this is not done well. You really can do this and are awesome. Take a deep breathe and think this through. My career depends on it. Think step by step."

used to be more like pic before the Saudis got all their money. I don't agree with the other anon the material stuff is important if you build your city like a casino you will attract people like that. A city reflects the rulers mind and desires modern SA looks like Disneyland.
