Why is every trade shilled on /misc/ the absolute lowest brain-dead Black person tier bullshit? Being a machinist is a trade too. They get to make intricate metal parts, requiring a decent amount of knowledge and skill that’s learned over years of experience. But no, let’s tell everyone how great it is to dig ditches under houses into puddles of literal human shit.

Per tax data 50% of plumbers make less than 60k, and 90% make less than 101k.

    https://www.bls.gov/oes/current/oes472152.htm

    https://www.bls.gov/oes/current/oes151252.htm

Meanwhile 50% of software developers make 120k. Meaning the average dev makes double what the average plumber makes with 1/10th the effort and 1/20th the hours
    >but but but that’s tax data so it doesn’t cover the taxes I don’t pay for cash jobs!!!

This is dumb. Do you even math?
Median does not mean avg you dumbfrick. It means the middle number in a set. The mean wage is 32. Thats what an avg plumber in the US makes.
      32 * 40 * 52 /12 = 66k at straight time.
      32 * 1.5 = $64/hr
      $120 - $66k = $54k
      54k / $64 / 52 = 16 hr/week.
So in the absolute worst case scenario I work 16 more hours a week and make 120/yr.
But pay isn't where trades beat you. Where we really won is we are uncancelable. You'll lose your job for breathing wrong. Mean while I can call a customer a Black person and they still have to let me in.

I see why you think being a tradie is a good long term plan, your iq is around 90 I’m guessing. Income isn’t a normal distribution - you use median to describe distributions like it to account for Californian trade cucks making 4x what ones in Arkansas or whatever make. The median tradie makes more than 50% of all tradies nationwide

The threat isn't that AI will replace you profession (presumably a carpenter). But rather that it will find a cheaper/faster alternative way to do it

        Anonymous

First threat is that it replaces white collar workers, of which most will switch to trades. Just a few years later, that same level of differentiation and next action picking ability is going to be tested enough to control androids going about in public. Also, AI already creates solutions humans do not understand anymore, but they work. They are mostly of mathematical nature at the moment, but this will soon expand, as the action picking problem seems to have been solved recently, enabling AI to work towards goals step by step.

Yea nah c**t, trades are also being replaced by robotics and machinery and probably soon to be a combination of advanced robotics, machinery fixed with AI into it.
Look at the lumberjack and mining industries as an example.

      Anonymous

Yeah but mechanical robotics is still pretty shit deep down.

The dog that walks on 4 legs looks fancy, but it also falls over a lot and the battery doesn't last very long at all.

The best they can do is nowhere near good enough to unscrew a simple set of pipes that any apprentice would fix in a matter of seconds.

        Anonymous

The 4 leg dog is a distraction robotic. Just question why and what purpose does it serve for it to be justified as to why MIC spent billions into the research of robotics and AI, and for what? A dancing robot dog? Lmao
They have the means to replace the trades. Forestry and blacksmithing is definitely the greatest examples how a trade industry can lose 80% + of employees overnight by the introduction of machines and robotics. I've seen the machine myself. A one man device can literally rip the biggest c**t of a tree out of the ground with a claw, flip it on its side and perfectly cut it up with attached blades before perfectly loading it into a truck..

Just be aware that what they show us today and what is released to the public is nothing close to comparable to what they probably have as top secret projects. Complacency is a weakness, don't ever assume that the government and world leaders who openly claim human's are parasites would not find a way to replace you.

If anything is a litmus test for AI taking jobs it's going to be self driving cars. The thing that has was non-stopped shilled to frick truckers out of employment for well over a decade that conveniently disappeared from the news cycle when the technology shit the bed.
It can't accomplish the simple task of going from point A to point B without flipping the frick out about ghosts in the ground
It's fricking pathetic, anytime you alarmists get called to the fricking floor you start screaming sometime soon AI is going to just frick the entire race out of employability without ever showing a single real world example of entire swathes of people being replaced in this way

Advanced in technology render labor redundant, causing economic crisis.

For example, industrial sewing machines replaced the manual cottage industry.

Working people don't benefit from this, the machines and factories are owned by rich people.

Small family farmers here have to adapt to niche markets to survive against factory farms, or they die out.

Such as humanely and traditionally raised animals, heirloom crops, cooking herbs, potted plants, bamboo, hemp, and so on.

It is not a leap to suggest that artificially intelligence can easily replace the intellectual labor that often superfluous office workers do.

Say you own a large tech company. You employ a ton of workers will sorts of quirky benefits, they work like one hour a day, and get a full salary.

You could spin up a single instance of an AI model to replace many of these workers while massively cutting labor costs and improving efficiency.

I don't own a large tech company, nor do I aspire to do so. I just see the writing on the wall. Many companies in the information sector are very bloated.

It is like one big party financed by VC millions and woo woo bullshit promising the sky at VC investor conferences. At some point, the party has to end.

      >It is not a leap to suggest that artificial* intelligence can easily replace the intellectual labor that often superfluous office workers do.

Including the jobs that I used to do as a white collar worker. For example, rewriting online news articles. An AI can rewrite hundreds of articles in a moment, 24/7, for just the cost of electricity, and an editor can proofread and approve them for publication.

        Anonymous

I've used AI models to generate code as well, just for fun. You can give the AI a prompt to write an entire program, and it will give you the code with extreme speed.

The code is a bit buggy, but with a little code editing, you get functional programs. For example, ask an AI model to write you a Python program that renders a 3D spinning cube, then run the code yourself.

A human simply can't work that fast. It is like John Henry and the steam engine, but for intellectual labor.

We've been using Plumber.AI for about 2 years now, way before the generative output bots.
    >Artificial intelligence (AI) could be applied to various aspects of plumbing to enhance efficiency and problem-solving. Some areas where AI will replace humans in plumbing include:

    1. **Fault Detection:** AI systems could analyze plumbing systems to identify potential issues such as leaks or blockages by monitoring pressure, flow rates, and other parameters.

    2. **Predictive Maintenance:** AI could predict when plumbing components might fail, allowing for proactive maintenance to prevent costly repairs and water damage.

    3. **Adaptive Control Systems:** AI-driven control systems could optimize water flow, pressure, and temperature in real-time, adjusting based on usage patterns and environmental conditions.

    4. **Automated Inspection:** AI-enabled robots or drones could be designed to inspect plumbing systems, identifying problems or potential areas of concern without human intervention.

    5. **Customer Support:** AI-powered chatbots could assist homeowners with basic plumbing troubleshooting and provide guidance on simple repairs, improving customer support in the plumbing industry.

    6. **Inventory Management:** AI systems could optimize inventory levels for plumbing supplies, ensuring that contractors have the right materials on hand when needed.

Planned labor obsolescence has been a fact of plumbing for a long time. Pex pipe replaced copper as a low skill alternative for just one example. Same as auto mechanics being cut out by removing the skill for simply swapping out a part or sub-system. There will doubtlessly be more advanced diagnostic tools to further remove the need for high field skills. It's everywhere.
