in the next 50 years we will either experience a massive uptick in living standards or we will all slowly go insane. Probably both

there will be a parallel society between countries being able to utilize these new technologies and countries still stuck trying to solve their internal food and water shortages which will only be amplified with climate change

Low IQ countries will always have issues with basic stuff like food supply. Whenever they get free food from developed countries, they just breed like rabbits and now there's 10m more hungry mouths to feed that they can't support. Some people have never succesfully created or maintained civilizations because it's not in their blood to co-operate on a wide scale like that.

      >in the next 50 years
We won't. The increase in energy prices as our technology increase energy draws, and the weakening volumes of cheap petrol we're able to pull and burn from bedrock oil wells is going to make extreme damage on our quality of life. There's no amount of solar panels that will be able to solve that.

        Anonymous

The price of energy is going to plummet and the exact opposite of all of this is going to happen.

          Anonymous

Well, if we somehow can put up enough alternative energy and maybe some nuclear plants in time before the petrol crunch, maybe. But we're staring a big inflation crisis in the maw when oil begins to run dry.

        >as our technology increase energy draws
modern tech draws far less energy than in the past thoever

          Anonymous

that is flatly untrue. Energy demands have only accelerated. Modern hardware might make an effort to be more energy efficient per computation, but the raw double in computation power is creating an acceleration in energy consumption partly due to bigger home systems, the advent of crypto mining, and large ai systems training which is extremely computationally intensive. Each year the rate of oil consumption increases 6%

I'm israeli, so, not at all. My risk profile is reasonably well-calibrated since it isn't bogged down with the conspiracy-mindedness handicap.

That said, I've been a bit of a Yuddite since 2014, so I do still attribute some risk to the possibility of AI-driven extinction or near-extinction within the next hundred years.

You're missing the point. It's not about GPT-4 but what's in 20 - 30 years from now, and then the decades after that.

I'm dead serious when I say AI development is more dangerous to society than nukes ever were. Right now it's just cute little toys to play around with, but give it enough time to mature and future generations are going to look back at us with nothing but sheer contempt.

You joke but it goes way deeper than just people's love lives. Think of it less as robots that think and act like people and more along the lines of a theoretically limitless amount of amoral genius brains rapidly accelerating developments in surveillance, policing, crime, terrorism, warfare, all sorts of different types of scientific research good and bad. Think of what hostile nations that don't care about international treaties will use it for. Think of what a government that doesn't like you or your lifestyle will use it for. It's a very scary unpredictable arms race that will never end until the species does, but most people get hung up on really mundane stuff like sexdroids, or losing their fast food job to a robot.

Posts like this are like my concentrated and why I do not give a frick.

It will not take long, probably not even a year, for AI to wipe out the planet and send HDD of itself onto mars on a rover or something.

You people are too attached to life and existence. Just make the best out of it and stop worrying about stupid shit like this. Big rock into earth would do exactly the same, and there is a very high chance of it happening too.

I'm never using chatgpd and continue to abide by my arbitrary tech cut off date of 2012. Techbros will shout from the rooftoops that I will be left behind, but they can't fathom I was always behind anyway, and not because I didn't buy their new toy.

    Quite.

Imagine that the AI revolution ends in people losing their jobs and the only people who benefit are corporate overlords?

They'll get workers who work 24/7 with no complaints, no HR, basically no management except repairs.

There is two ways this is going to go:
    >Society as a whole benefits from AI, people get a UBI or some other compensation from the increase in productivity
    >Society loses benefits, people lose their jobs and are compensated with nothing. Only CEO's benefit.
