AI will embed itself into our society in one way or the other.
The only thing that will change eventually is the highly inefficient algorithm.
>The only thing that will change eventually is the highly inefficient algorithm.
Can you elaborate, or are you bullshitting?
we probably should study the dot com crash to see how AI crashes
Or you could study the last two AI bubbles.
was drawing the parallel with the dot com bubble's interest in commercial applications
what is the vertical axis
buzz
hype, as measured in micropopeils.
>lisp was the main pl in the last cycle
>lisp died cause it was associated with ai scams
>python is the main pl in this cycle
>python is now associated with ai scams
Will Python go the Lisp way?
Stop, you're getting me excited
Careful though, cause the equivalent of C in this cycle is JavaScript.
the burst happens after summer. then vhs becomes mainstream again.
it wont because it's fr
Depends on how far the current tech can be scaled up. Most likely it will be maxed out in a couple years, the annoying clout chasers and pump-and-dumpers will finally leave, and AI will heal.
>AI will heal
AI won't heal until all connectionist shills fricking die.
Can't wait for $700 4090s.
More importantly OP is WHAT will be the next big thing? I'm taking after fully conscious AI with Elon branded robots everywhere. What will be the next big thing after that? After the AI boom has become old hat.
>fully conscious AI with Elon branded robots everywhere
Conscious AI everywhere is a waste of resources and potentially dangerous, it only makes sense as a manager or president or king, I could see very low IQ robots be widely used though, each model of robot does a single thing very well but that's it and it still need human supervision or the supervision of an higher IQ manager AI.
Anyway it won't happen until at least the next AI cycle because current AI is nothing but moronic marketing.
>What will be the next big thing after that?
Space.
W.t.f is this shit? Until we become a Kardishev 2 or 3 there is always some that will be the next big thing. Were not even a 1 so there is plenty of room for the next big thing to make a splash. I just want to know what it is. Now get your heads out of your ass I want answers.
Is it fusion? FTL? Cloning? Space mining? Elon's dick implant chips? What's it going to be?
>Now get your heads out of your ass I want answers.
>the main use for AI everyone seems to be interested in is either medical or materials science
i gave my answer
>The entire thing is an investment grift with 10000% overinflated expectations
i'm not disagreeing, most of the investors are throwing shit at a wall and launching dumbass products but i would be extremely surprised if literally nothing lasts since it's already penetrating the market
>WHAT will be the next big thing?
we tend to be pretty fricking wrong all the time about that
>I'm taking after fully conscious AI with Elon branded robots everywhere.
the thing about conscious intelligent AI is that it invalidates every other boom beyond physical security and physical resource extraction
if it actually takes off and is at that level nothing else matters nearly as much
if it's just a bust outside of chatbots and replacing office drones the main use for AI everyone seems to be interested in is either medical or materials science
>if it's just a bust outside of chatbots and replacing office drones
It's not even going to get that far. The entire thing is an investment grift with 10000% overinflated expectations. This current iteration of "AI" will fail just like all the other times before and nobody will talk about it for the next 15 years until another bubble starts again.

Considering that the new 1.58 bit LLM paper dropped, we are reaching new paradigm, if the paper is to be believed and is replicate-able.
And good news for gpus as well, because if it is true it can be done with somewhat simpler hardware.
It's not going away. The valuation of the companies behind it will go down, logically, but there will be more and more ML applications produced even more cheaply for the next decade at least.
just 2 more weeks before the next big thing.
Until someone demonstrates commercial fusion or room temperature superconductors.
It will never stop. I guarantee you that some big rich people have been blackmailed in the past and this will set them free, they will keep this funded until the day they die. Audio and video blackmailing will be a thing of the past. They can profit from it in many different ways as well. Safe bet to invest in.
AI is the only next big thing. The hype cycle will maybe reset and be delayed due to resource constraints. But it will not change.
>AI hype bubble pops
It'll become the new normal, the hype will die down but it's not going anyway, the current tools are incredible
>the current tools are incredible
just buy an ad if you want to shill your autocomplete
Generative AI lets indians spam social media and video sites with auto gen garbage in such quantity it's causing normal feeds to become unusable
It's not going anywhere due to how easy current generative AI makes content creation, even if the hype dies down a bit
The electrical grid is rapidly becoming a limiting factor on AI. Or west china could invade east china, that would call a halt to the AI fun pretty promptly.
We're tumbling down the slope right now. So far there have been no noteworthy applications of "AI." This is just like the ML hype of 2010 with Siri and Cortana.
