A robot will not be able to do what a human does at McDonalds. Not in your lifetime. Stop conflating good AI with good robotics. AI can do text-based and code-based work because all it has to do is spit out characters based on input. The progress of mechanical engineering, however, is still a bottleneck when it comes to hands-on jobs. Think of all the things a robot would need to do to work at McDonalds. Think of the minutiae of the tasks. They have to have an incredible range of motion to move around the restaurant with the same grace as a human, pull out stoves and clean behind them, search a messy refridgerator for ingredients, pick things up off the floor, clean out deep friers, not collide with other robots or humans while moving gracefully around the building with an incredible range of motion, etc. Stop conflating developments in AI with developments in robotics. When people say that AI is replacing jobs, it is because they are the perfect white-collar laptop workers. They can regurgitate text, send emails, write code, without having to CARRY OUT COMPLEX MOTIONS AND TASK IN PHYSICAL SPACE. This is also why plumbers, electricians, and other tradies will not be replaced in our lifetime. Robotics simply is not up to speed.
