    >Canceling because of AI
They are all afraid of AI because they know they can be on the chopping block any time soon. Painter artists went from being recognized as the last to automate jobs to being automated in couple of months. They stick together to make convince public that AI is bad because their livelihood is public opinion on their work. 2D artists still have not lost their jobs and still get commissions and Patreon money almost in equal amounts as before AI, all because normies dont like it

Its amazing how everyone is shilling this "next crypto" cope around AI every time it slows down even a tiny bit. Now back to reality where NVIDIA is developing 3D generator, AI that can create drugs and medicine with almost no human oversight and is about to start manufacturing chips specialised in video training and LLM training. Reality where chatbot became the highest growing app in human history.
            >But thats because it is the first chatbot available to normies, we had this tech for years
AI Dungeon and CharacterAI released much earlier then ChatGPT and were nowhere near as popular. In fact almost nobody outside of /aicg/ and few circles connected to it knew about CharacterAI or AI Dungeon, while everyone and their grandma knows and used ChatGPT, because there is significant advancement between these.

If you are an artfag, then what are you doing on this board on these threads? Are you here because of Linux? Then what are you doing outside of Linux threads?
            Also
            >AI art has existed for several years and most people don't give a shit.
Yeah, 2022 also felt like a decade, but AI art was here only for a short while. If you mean AI art like autotuning, AI replacing selection in photoshop and so on, then that is not really AI art, its just tiny tool that everyone uses, photoshop autofill cant make me a picture by itself with very little input. Autotune still requires the song to tune the voice around, but it cannot generate the song itself like Google AI can. The reason why some AI art generators that worked similarly to what we have not were not popular was because they sucked dick, but today it is really good, which is why everyone talks about it, which is a reason why everyone talks about Stable Diffusion but nobody talks about Murpet

Thats because they are artfags themselves and they stick together. Indie gamedevs are not programmers or developers, they are artfags who learned how to code, or they are artfags in their free time.

Not true at all. Solo devs usually have to be more programmer aligned because it's the most boring part of gamedev.
It's obvious that the artists in a gamedev team aren't going to be programmers though.

        Anonymous

Modern game engines will take care of 80% of the programming work and market place assets: code, blueprints, etc. hold your hand through the next 20%. There are even indie game studios that publish their stuff in the unity and unreal marketplaces for other devs to use. You could realistically put together decent game logic by slapping shit together. Hell, movements, cameras, and AI logic are probably the biggest mechanical hurdles and the engines solve those out of the box and/or provide code you can use in your game. Lyra, for example.

          Absolutely soulless post.
          >just use the assets that thousands of other devs are using bro
          >just use the same game engine that thousands of other devs are using
And that is how you end up with games all looking alike. I'd unironically prefer AI generated art over a game that looks as soulless and bland and samey as every other one.

            Anonymous

            >And that is how you end up with games all looking alike
No it isn't. AAA games already look the same despite having art teams with hundreds of artists

              Anonymous

Yes it is. Go grab 10 games made in unity and tell me how they all look totally different.

          Anonymous

The individual boilerplate code and assets exist, yeah; but you still need to be a competent dev to connect the puzzle pieces and constantly untangle the giant unholy mess that always comes with any growing codebase. Most non-programmers will get filtered when their projects start getting too unruly to add any unique content.

I'd argue that most of gamedev programming isn't even coding, but software design. A problem that pre-mades and AI tools can't solve yet.

          >Hell, movements, cameras, and AI logic are probably the biggest mechanical hurdles and the engines solve those out of the box and/or provide code you can use in your game
You'd think so, but no. There's still a lot of tweaking and guess work unless you somehow find the perfect goldilocks asset that does it for you. A lot of things involving movement needs to be tweaked constantly and games that just use default assets/settings are going to play horribly.

          >You could realistically put together decent game logic by slapping shit together
They're called asset flips and they're usually pretty bad. And you can always tell.
One of the more successful ones was Getting Over It, where you climb a pile of random garbage while listening to pretentious speeches by the developer.
"For years now people have been predicting that games would soon be made out of prefabricated objects, bought in a store and assembled into a world.
And for the most part, that hasn't happened, because the objects in the stores are trash. I don't mean they look bad or they're badly made, although a lot of them are. I mean they're trash in the way that food becomes trash as soon as you put it in the sink.
Things are made to be consumed in a certain context, and once the moment is gone they transform into garbage."

It is only happening in China, and it is because of new Chinese laws that restrict the amount of video games children are allowed to play. Yes, China is run by your parents, or, well, the same generation of people as them. This is having an impact on the Chinese games industry. I wouldn't expect a similar thing to happen here.

Self driving car does one fuckup out of 100 and is considered useless and dangerous to use
Image generator fucks up 99 times out of 100 and is considered replacer of artists

This is why creative jobs are getting replaced so easily. If each retry of generation costed you the same across all sectors, then the dummy manual and office jobs would be replaced first because there the chance of robot fucking up is very low, but checking if they fuck up/cost of fucking up is too high. If you need something copied and ordered in excel sheet or made presentation about, it will take you almost as much time checking for errors as it would making it yourself. With art it is easy to tell bad image from good image instantly, so the tech developed insanely fast insanely good by just making people give the AI feedback with its generations. It takes you less then a second to recognize really bad image, 3 seconds to recognize somewhat mediocore image, and 10 seconds to recognize if image is really good. Now do the same with brand new biomolecules that you have to test out their properties and side effects if you prescribe them as drugs. Not so fun anymore, yet AI researchers managed to do that.

I do understand those are not the same, which is why I made that point. The price per attempt is different and when self driving car fucks up, its major problem, same with accounting or medical stuff, even if AIs perform better then most doctors at diagnosis. People instinctively will not trust machine that does not understand the concept of disease but can diagnose you better then trust doctor that does understand it but has lower success rate.

        > it's too risky
It's unknown territory and the risk is largely overhyped by Twitterfags. The corpos with a lot of programmer hires are still investing in the tech regardless. Developers with huge amounts of GPU power at hand are the ones that can utilize the tech much more efficiently than any mediocre normalfag.
        >using images from sources with <whatever> license.
The gens aren't the source images, and there's no real legal precedent that outlaws AI images made from models trained on "illegal" images.
Besides, a large corpo definitely has the resources to train their own models on the giant art hordes they've harvested from their art drones.
