like how much better at image classification than a human can you get?
it could also be that once something reaches human level competence, they stop putting much if any work into it, since it's good enough

Humans are only good in perfect conditions. Add in bit of noise and we're toast. Computers/AIs can do it at the rate of a perfect human can + do it 24/7 + do it parallel + super speed it up

          >everything plateaus at around human level
nooo, what about my heckin singularity and superintelligence?

Its lack of compute isn't the only factor, data is destiny. AI trainings are done on human level sets. So AI will plateau right there. But AI can do it 24/7, with full attention, with speed ups, etc.

The next big thing after compute is DATA. Either new quality to feed it or quality synthetic data. The big thing after these two is finding an algorithm that can do ground truth analysis to get to ground truths even if it disagrees with training data. Thats when data is no longer the bottleneck but grounded truth is.

            Anonymous

how exactly can you get ground truths without interaction?

You can give it access to simulators of whatever the frick it is you want it to do. That or

they've already said the next paradigm is embodiment where AI uses physical robot bodies as a peripheral, then they gather their own data from the real world via direct observation
thousands, eventually millions of robots will be doing this, and the data they generate can then be used generically to feed future models

but I don't think that'll be happening anytime soon.

children cant consent and the removal of and otherwise/including addition of body-parts is too much irreversible possible damage to the future adult to be placed in the hands of the parent who may be mentally unwell. As a parent, can you choose the school your son goes? Yeah, sure. Can you choose his haircur? Yeah, go on. But as soon as you talk about cutting his dick off and digging into his colon to make his crotch somewhat resemble that of a woman I am going to stop you because that is how things are. Parents castrating children should be put to jail for life. The only time I'd consider castration for children is when there's some underlying disease such that it would cause harm like cancer or some sort of bacteria eating at the penis/vegana that could infect the entire body.

A child cannot consent. Children cannot consent to wars, they cannot consent to sex (we call those who have sex with children as child rapist), they cant consent to smoking cigarettes, nor body tattoos, nor alcohol, nor harsh legal punishment unless its extreme like murder. US has laws that strictly protect children from parents that are irresponsible or would harm their own children.

modern AI induces a reverse god of the gaps in human copers where the sphere of human relevance shrinks more by the month and you have to invent new copes about your humanness to keep up

you see, when they can solve partial differential equations and program better than expert programmers, that requires superhuman reasoning, and then absolutely nothing is off the table

you know absolutely nothing about programming, where is the 10 year old genius who wrote a kernel and his own efi firmware? fricking nowhere, they are hyperspecialize din one task and that is one task, like a uop to an instruction they have two slots of memory for your input and the dataset (the internet) and all they can do is toggle the bit from 0 to 1. Humans are doing out of order execution at a uop level (quantum metaphysics and recursive time travel), this gap will never be filled.
