There's a problem right now with the term "AI", somehow Machine Learning algorithms (the current trend of using a mathematical pickgun to open locks by throwing money + energy + computing power at problems without actually understanding the problem or the solution) got lumped in with humanity's attempt to create a human brain inside a computer (General Intelligence, scifi asimov shit).

I'm sure you can imagine why the worlds militaries would be interested in AI technology and how to use it in war. Anything from 'dumb' AI handling logistics or smarter AI that could make decisions like a human could when the mission changes or new information becomes available.
