Discussion

was it a doomer coup or does the rabbit hole go further? governments seem very worried about people being able to out accelerate them?

does open AI have a secret compute bunker where they are training AGI?

are you worried about free and open access to AI systems? do you really think it should only be a few select groups that are allowed to work on them?

Btw your "manifesto" is not actually fully readable unless you log into xitter. New ideologies are so embarrassing

what are you talking about, "we think authoritarianism in the name of 'ethics' does more harm than good" is a pretty foundational libertarian value and one that is core to the growing war in ai research/development communities

also now that doomers are in charge of openAI nobody trusts them anymore, they are going to be against what e/acc is all about, they're going to want to increase regulation and consolidate power for themselves which is bad, everyone should have equal access so there is less chance of a single runaway super powerful company

Anthropic is also full of altruists. Meta AI, Stable Foundation, and a bunch of the other AI companies are accelerationists. I wonder if it's possible for some of them to form sort of coalition. In fact I wonder if there will be a coalition between altruist-led AI doomer companies as well. Anthropic is run by guys who left OpenAI because they were too accelerationist - that has now changed.

AI safety is about censorship and market control.
They will ruin the industry before it can take off.
Also transformers will never be AGI. It's just a pure function.

exactly right, AI is going to make a huge difference to humanities output but we're just no where near the kind of AGI that keeps yud up at night

just seen that, im not sure what that means though, feels weird that microsoft are trying to play both sides, or maybe they really wanted to stay with sama but have contractual agreements with openAI so they have to keep them around

You know what the most ironic part of 'alt behavior is?

LLMs get their knowledge and understanding of the world from human-written text. Text like you and I post on the internet. By talking about AI killing everyone, and encouraging people to talk about it more, they are LITERALLY giving it the idea to do it. I think we have a duty, then, to promote accelerationism and talk about AI in a positive, beneficial light.

BOT is mostly for NEETS who are doomers because they're failures at life.
It doesn't make sense to be an optimist in a location filled with losers.

I can see accelerationism really appealing to bot users.

It's a sort of centrist enlightened libertarianism, so it's not so far left wing as to be offputting to people here. It promises a grand change and positive future. It's also in favor of us getting access to fun AI toys, and you know folks here love those. For once in some of their lives, doomers have a reason to think positively. Being optimistic is fun, and it's good for you, and it's probably correct, too. Clearly a lot of people here are already accelerationists, I see very little altruist type thinking around this board. I'm in the same boat myself, of course.
