you are both wrong. A language model is a giant file which gives you probabilities for the next "correct" word based on the previous words. After every word (also called token) it gets a list of the most probably "correct" words for the context. When you ask a model what you should eat for breakfast, "eggs and bacon" come up as very probable and will most likely be picked, however the probability of "a bullet" is not 0%.
When you train a model on a dataset you weight the "good" or "makes sense" paths higher, so they are picked more likely. Together with a minimum probability limit you eliminate most nonsese answers.
However if you encounter a path least-trotten, you can still encounter bullshit answers or "hallucinations", just because noone trained the model against that specific hallucination.

That's why prompt engineering was created, to see what bullshit you get from the model. You train it to give you the most acurate response, but at the end of the day, if it's not trained for the correct question, it will go full haywire.
