I was expecting him to say something smarter

Perhaps you should have listened to what he said. It could be you are unable to recognized ``something smarter'' at all.

PROFESSOR: I'd like to welcome you to this course on computer science.
          0:28
Actually, that's a terrible way to start. Computer science is a terrible name for this business. First of all, it's not a science.
          0:35
It might be engineering or it might be art, but we'll actually see that computer so-called science actually has
          0:43
a lot in common with magic, and we'll see that in this course. So it's not a science. It's also not really very much about computers.
          0:53
And it's not about computers in the same sense that physics is not really about particle accelerators, and biology is
          1:02
not really about microscopes and petri dishes. And it's not about computers in the same sense that
          1:10
geometry is not really about using surveying instruments.

It is as I surmised, you are unable to recognize.

He could boil that down to 10 seconds and be just as reasonable, convincing and more comprehensible.

        This is what he says
        >So you would think it would be Computer Science *pauses*. But where is the science? It's not science, and it isnt... Computer either, so what is it? I kill homeless Black folk as a hobby.

Ah, yes, Artifical Intelligence is neither artifical nor is it intelligence. It's actually wishful thinking. The course uses that meme a lot for describing how to get things done in "LISP" which I must say having dealt with LLMs is the same mentality I have.

    >Artificial
    Check.
    >Intelligence
Debatable. What makes something "intelligent?" Ask 10 people and you'll get 10 answers.
