      >art for recognition
Wew. Generating porn is nice because it can cater to your very specific tastes. They aren't meant to be shared, unless you like exposing your headspace or finding new ideas from likeminded people.

        Anonymous

Art is culture. Art must be recognized for humans to see themselves in it. From this, culture is born. Degenerate art is culture, fine art is culture. Humans making things themselves is culture.

          Anonymous

As if the endgoal is to produce culture. At least with porn, the sole purpose is to get off. There's definitely art in the ways you can achieve this that's worth sharing for expaning your horizons, but in the end it's solitary act, made for private sensibilities only. That's how I see AI generated porn, the value is like all the photos only you care about, and eventually forget as well.

            Anonymous

No. Porn art is its own culture within the anime/freak subculture. It’s misfits celebrating art and sexuality and human desire in stylized form. People do in fact bond over doujins and hentai shit. People see human folly and tragedy, even in stupid porn plots. And they jerk off and shlick to it. Sometimes it’s just about nutting, but it’s still culture.

              Anonymous

I don't follow your point anymore. Are you saying that generated shit isn't culture? People are sharing their methods.

If a user can train or use a LORA to replace you, you are a poor artist who draws the same things over and over. The best artists in a niche cannot be replicated accurately using SD.

NAIv3 is getting scarily close, it can do niche poses and expressions.

                Anonymous

Generated art is antihuman culture. So yeah, I’m thinking it’s culture. Celebration of the vacuum and no mind. It’s Borg shit. Misguided at least, humanity destroying at worst

                Anonymous

There's a will and curator behind every generated image. Their social value is near 0 for how easy it is to will into existence, but it still human. The skill shifts fully from fine-motorics to sense of aesthetics.

Sure. I also have never used it. I'm pretty sure the vast majority of images posted there are seen by your social circle at best, and promptly forgotten. Just like AI art will be, except there's no social value so it's even less cared about. Then there's the photography that ends up being shared for looking nice. The same applies for AI art eventually.

                Anonymous

Actually there's already one form of AI art that floats around without the AI clout. Images like pic related but but more sneaky. Old idea sure, but stuff like it will stick around beyond the AI label.

There's little to no censorship on SDXL with sufficient training data. Even with SD 2 or 1.5 you should be fine overcoming any censorship built in if you have a sample set of 20+ images. I'm talking about basic standards here. If you can't even beat that you are done for.

When the AI came out, I was hyped that I coudl finalyl make hentai mangas easily, but it turned out, it's just so much more hassle than the old way of setting up 3d scenes. Maybe as an actual artist, you could include some bits of AI in your workflow and focus on story.

usually artists are the kind to throw a temper tantrum when they realize that someone shared their image without paying. Now that we can generate images without them, they throw another temper tantrum.

The same would apply for programmers as well, but most solo programmers tend to open source their shit anyway, or at least don't throw a hissy fit when someone reverse engineers their stuff.

Nothing, in fact I started appreciating artgays more after messing a fair bit with SD, even started drawing some simple shit myself for hobby's sake. That being said, a few bad apples can certainly ruin many people's opinions.
I still however think that NSFW artists will eventually dry up, as tech improves, hell look at NAI v3 managing to uncuck SDXL, and they have a new model coming from scratch, as well as many other interesting ideas, like LLaVa captioning training with Pixart. Your best bet is diving into more psychologycally driven progressions instead of just setpieces. Might as well learn stuff yourself to accelerate stuff like backgrounds.
In regards to gatekeeping... The good days when the best tech was also free and easily accessible are coming to an end. Midjourney might've been nothing but a side grade to existing models, but way more advanced tech is in the works and it will be paywalled or at least severely globohomo'd. The cutting edge will return to proprietary sector once again, and everybody will be getekept by companies hoarding GPU's. There are already arguments between localBlack folk and paypigs.

        Anonymous

Frankly, I don't mind if the cutting edge is always held by the corpos with paywalls, so long as the second best is still able to be done locally and open source at our own discretion. There will always be makers and hackers wanting to tinker with local stuff.

If Disney comes out with DirectorAI that makes the best personalized movies for a subscription, then I'll be perfectly fine working with pirated local models that can make slightly less amazing stuff. Especially since their model will be redlined and guardrailed to high hell.

I'm not an artist so I'm genuinely curious how hard it would be to use AI to do like 80% of the work for you and then clean it up/alter it by hand? Couldn't a NSFW artist vastly improve their output speed by integrating AI into their workflow?

      Anonymous

Not hard at all, just time consuming. And artists are, ironically, not very creative. They would first need somebody to do the work to figure out a way to integrate it into the workflow, then they would adopt it.

        Anonymous

        >just time consuming
OK but it can't be that hard to integrate it into your workflow, right? It's just time spent now to exponentially save time in the future. Seems like a no-brainer. The time saved could even be spent learning some new skills like writing and scripting. NSFW visual novels make buckets of money with minimal additional effort.

You know how there exists AI-interpolated that moves at a shit-stain ugly """60 FPS"""? Turns out that, using that exact technique, you can get real actual inbetweens if you use AI interpolation smartly.

Limit the output framerate to either 30 FPS (webtoons) or 24 FPS (traditional film). Chop up every camera shot into its own video file (prevents the program from trying to interpolate camera cuts). Pass each video file through the interpolator. Use a video editor to go through each video file. Discard frames you don't like, discard buggy frames.

Re-time the shots by inserting duplicate frames where needed. Decide whether a scene needs to be on 1's, 2's, or 3's to look its best, and act accordingly. Did it start looking choppy because you had to cut too many frames? Take your edited output and pass it through the interpolator again.

I consider myself picky when it comes to animation timing, so I was impressed with what I was able to get out of it. It's absurdly faster than doing all the inbetweens yourself or even with a team. It'll never be as good as a skilled animator's work, but none of us have the free time or spare money to actually do animation right. This is the next best thing and it's highly capable in the hands of people who have experience with animation.

If you want to make your dream animation come true but you've never had the time or energy, this could be a serious breakthrough. AI is exciting as hell for me, a former drawgay that had to abandon it to take on real work. And I think there's room for artists to work with AI, too. The world today demands impossibly fast and cheap turnaround. These workloads+deadlines are not feasible, and they don't pay enough nor give enough benefits. In this race to the bottom, AI is the only way to stay afloat- and for hobbyists, AI assistance alleviates your time-and-money hindrance so you can actually *finish what you started*.

      Anonymous

The workflow you'd want looks something like:

      > Sketch out a rough idea of what you want.
      > Using ControlNet, get a few ideas of how to finalize it
      > Go back and paint the final, rough colors in
      > Get an AI model to convert that to a proper, detailed image. Repeat until you get what you want
      > Inpaint edit to perfect
      > Hand-paint to finalize

All of this should save a lot of time. There are a few artists I follow that are so fast and so high quality I cannot imagine that they are not using this technique. The trouble comes when you need to do any very complex scenes - it'll generally have trouble with those.

      Anonymous

People in the industry and some artists are using "collage" technique where they cut a couple of photos, overlay them one on another with different layer properties and opacities and from that chaos "extending" whatever useful could be found. A funky texture, gesture, composition and so on.
AI may automate this particular process which is something that directly could help the workflow and is a good base to start drawing for real...But then shit is a bit muddier.

If 80% of the work is done by final generation then to fix errors and issues an artist has to be skilled enough to fully imitate render that AI does. It's very hard and since it's very uniformed will require a lot of time as well.
If you do 80% of work yourself and let AI to touch it up - it will take a currently trained model and will filter through the entire thing changing it compeletely. Even if you'll set up to warp only areas of the drawing they will stand out like a sore thumb.
In both cases it feels like it stops being "yours".

      Anonymous

Not hard at all, thats what I do. what used to take me 16 hours to draw start to finish now takes me at 4-5 hours. It depends on the level of detail. I dont draw realistic but I do like making my shadows detailed.

      This is the key.

Been doing 2D/3D shit on Patreon since 2017 myself. Went through the same doomer phase when AI hit, but then I took a good hard look at the tech and realized that the only people who have something to fear are the people making boring uninspired artwork in the first place.

It's trivial to come up with poses and scenes that AI simply cannot replicate. Just up your game and come up with something creative for once. If it's relatively unique, AI won't be able to touch you, and any jackass lame enough to try and train a LORA on your shit will only ever be a cheap knockoff (which, IMHO, is no different then artists trying to trace your shit- it'll never be the same as an original).

AI is neat and it's a tool that has a place and time, but it will never replace actual artists making actually creative stuff on a professional level. If you're getting filtered on Patreon by sd-webui, then your shit probably sucked to begin with and it was only a matter of time.

Up your game. Innovate or die. Outdoing AI isn't hard, it just requires a bit of effort. I've increased my pledges by over 30% in the past two years just by focusing on what people want and offering something AI can never touch- creativity, unified designs, interesting poses, and coherent animations.

It ain't frickin' hard. Stop being so lazy.

It reminds me of a stencil. Layers of stencils. That missing human element is like a lack of context.

As another old artgay, I'm more forgiving when it comes to reading into soul. A talented human touch can make AI art more soulful, but it's not exactly devoid of soul. Semi-related, what do you think of AI creating accidental horror? e.g. too many mouths, weird teeth, strange movement, etc. I think AI horror is a unique and extremely enjoyable genre all on its own without a human touch. It's genuinely sickening in a way I don't think human art has ever made me feel.

Picrel, I highly recommend watching that video if you have a strong stomach. There's no gore or taboo subjects, yet it manages to make me feel sick like no other art can. Unironically I think that's a great thing.

Listen man, we're stealing our own work and stripping ourselves of our livelihoods too. If we knew how to stop it we would, but we don't so we might as well make some quick money on it before we all lose our jobs together.

Probably a troll, but for anyone who actually thinks this way: What do you expect? For technology to completely halt to protect your little job? That's completely unreasonable and ridiculous. If we took that moronic attitude seriously, we would have banned cars to protect the horse market. Things change, regardless of you who you are. Get over it.

AI has nothing to do with this, the disposable income people got from covid checks and policies like student loan pauses have dried up completely and now the economy also sucks ass. Your coomer customers are choosing to pay their own bills rather than your subscription fees.

I dunno, mang. I’m an oldgay. I started using wacoms when they were absolute dog. I was here when deviantart first started. I’ve watched careers blossom and stagnate. Meanwhile, I’ve just been drawing and writing for fun for a couple decades. I don’t think my art has improved much since I was a kid, but it just feels good. It keeps me young and not burnt out. And honestly, all this AI stuff looks dead to me. My little waifu doodles have so much more life. I compare my stuff with AI objectively, and I just can’t feel much from AI. AI kinda creeps me out, teebs.

I’ll keep it real with you. That looks kinda cool. There is a concept in there somewhere, but I’m immediately like, what if an artist redrew that and refined everything so there were no more vague, amorphous shapes. As a reference, that’s potentially useful. On it’s own, I give it a 5.6/10, which is pretty good since the AI waifu stuff is like a 2/10 from my perspective.

Exactly, my boy. AI art isnt soulless, its a skill issue. The idea you sense? It was my prompt, I was inspired by The Oh Hellos song Eurus.

Heres one that more closely matches the inspiration

Under the table where she dines
I sit hungry with my mouth foamed white
Fighting for crumbs that trickle down
As she finishes her cake, then takes a bite from mine

Everything, always, is a skill issue

I think the art this model is trained on is lending a lot to its palatability. Anime art tends to be heavily symbolic in shape language, while also being ultra refined. When AI tries to do that it looks sterile. The dirtiness of your images is more forgiving, but I would like to see this one redrawn by a human too

Pretty cool. Don’t you get the feeling something is missing though?

The dirtyness was a part of the prompt. It was something like
              >rough, splotchy, mockup watercolor painting of only golds and blacks.
Reds and blacks for the bottom center image, obviously.

Here is an anime style drawing I prompted a while back. It captures the expressive visual language of japshit art pretty well.

And when you say something is missing, obviously its missing the human element. You cab see the human intent behind a bad drawing, but a bad ai drawing just looks bad period.

Thats just how it is, i personally dont see why thats a bad thing. Especially if AI can be this good...

I see. Yes, the human element is what I’m talking about. I’m glad you can see that it’s missing. I don’t know if it captures the expressiveness. It does look like it’s trying to check the boxes of it though.

AI horror makes sense because it’s inherently scary. It’s a natural enemy to the human soul.

Idk how hard it would be to find, but yoy should head over to the dalle thread and ask for archive links to the story anons posts. He has like a dozen stories he made, theyre silly and consist of maybe 6-12 images a piece.

Maybe ai art, when presented with a narrative, has a little bit of soul. Or maybe like some different kind of soul.

I am so genuinely excited to see how humanity integrates this technology into its psyche.

I think of it less as an enemy and more as a warped culmination of human culture and desires. The lack of soul comes from it being created without any intent from the machine that choicelessly generates it. What soul it does have is that which is out of the human's control, "errors" that they will never be able to fix — not without making new algorithm/ technologies, that is. One day, if AI generation is perfected, what little soul AI has will be stripped away, and it will instead be a perfect slave, much to our horror.

The AI is the artist. The twisted algorithm and the patterns extracted from terabytes of training of training data managed to make something resembling an artist. The prompter commissions the work, and the AI artist does it. All without needing food, sleep, money, without snark, and in almost instantly. Prompters are not artists. They are commissioners. Learning no more than how best to request the work from the AI artist.

A few months ago it was inconceivable that an algorithm could produce art. At least not real one. Piet Mondrian doesn't count. And now here we are. An algorithm figured out beauty. They still make a few mistakes here and there. A six figured hand. A misspelled letter. Small mistakes. If they aren't yet indistinguishable from human-produced work, they will be. Oh they will be. The genie is out of the bottle, and this is the world we live in.

I don't know what advice to give other than

Stop being so lazy.

                and

Start doing stuff that AI is very bad at and what the state of the art models refuse to do.

So basically e-girl and feet. Also animations.

It's an AIs world now. We're just living in it.

If this is SD you can slam the output images into the reader tab and extract the whole prompt. If it is not SD and instead one of the proprietary options I am locked out any way but thanks, watercolor, limited pallete and 'grand narrative artistic depiction' are keys I would never have thought of while the rest is similar to one of the styles I played around with, and thats a great match.
I usually try to proompt around stuff I have written before (or got as output in conjunction with a LLM) and maybe this is the sauce to make it worthwhile

With some adjustments, heres a good example of how impercise and vauge language hinders the AIs ability to give you what you want.

But it can also be a good way of just letting the ai do its thing and seeing what it shits out.

                >watercolor art, limited color pallete of rich vibrant blues and black, grand narrative artistic depiction of "an elderly fisherman unaware of the dangers lurking beneath his rickety boat." top half framed man in boat bottom half framed elusive yet ever present dangers of the sea

                >But it can also be a good way of just letting the ai do its thing and seeing what it shits out.
This has been one major fascination of mine because just seeing what the AI associates with certain words is fantastic. Another way to paly with vagueness is to feed it a massive text (ie a synopsis or wikipedia paragraph) and see what it shits out. Not exactly a way to make art but a fun game.
Your style of prompting seems way more compatible with what I want out of the gen without micromanaging every detail, so thanks.

Provided this is in fact SD, which model are you using?

Not to mention the superiority complex artists tend to have. Like all you do is doodle on a paper, you are NOT that important to be a prick to others. Prompting takes very little time compared to drawing and you can pump out studio quality CGI shorts in mere hours compared to doing it by hand. I know this because I'm an artist who got into AI through /sdg/ last year and now I use DALL-E 3 and PikaLabs to do what I've wanted to do for ages.

Honestly at this point there's no reason not to switch to prompting unless you are a 100% traditional artist. Even then you can use prompts to give you great reference material for your art. Maybe try and work on that animation project you've been meaning to make forever using prompts instead of trying to draw out every single frame from scratch. You can even prompt model sheets and storyboards for it. No need to force yourself to draw every little thing. This will free you and make drawing fun again.

Pic related was generated by DALL-E 3 btw

If you really want to you can switch to traditional art. Only wet and dry media, no Photoshop, no AI. The bright side to this is it's a lot easier to connect with other artists in real life if that is what you want. Work for a company like everyone else instead of slacking and being paid for "ideas" instead of giving full authorship of your work. Back in the day when somebody paid an artist to make something, it resulted in an object being given to the paying person.
Now they pay you to make a drawing and you post it wherever you want as promotion and the payer gets a dick in their mouth if they even dare to post it somewhere where you did not give authorization prior to the posting or usage.
Frick off to a 9-to-5 drawing all day long for ubisoft so they can rake millions while you cry yourself to sleep.

Society would collapse without artists and our sensitive, talented wieners. You’d all have a nice day without us. The only people left would be cow-eyed Indians prompting Miku Hatsune and praising allah that stable diffusion saved them from carpet merchanting

Good, I'm glad your lewd "art" is no longer profitable. I hope the pornography industry collapse entirely. Get a real job, homosexual.

I only respect paid artists that actually provide something like a graphic novel or game or something. Not some dumbass subscription for muh anime tiddies

I would guess you draw in an anime style since that's what most AI art that I see is.
