They don't want the public being able to make deep fakes.

        Anonymous

what is the difference between a deep fake and doing a 3d animation with a muscle simulation with FEM in say houdini (digital double)?

          Anonymous

Being able to "fake" the backgrounds, the voices, and everything else about an entire scene with ease because the AI does most of the work for you. It's very possible that with unfettered access to high quality AI products that consumers would be able to generate content that is so realistic that when it's spread without context it becomes a modern War of the Worlds scenario where everyone thinks there's a clip of some world leader threatening to nuke a country that is real because someone hacks their social media account and posts it. They could follow that up with fake footage of a supposed attack and then if that also trends, it would create chaos and mass panic.

Granted, it's very possible that happens regardless because the technology leaks but it has so much potential for mass manipulation behind it that letting everyone have access to it is most likely a mistake. Especially when governments are the ones that are going to want to use it to set narratives that can destabilize other countries and gaslight their own people. They probably want the huge advancements in the field to be kept a secret too because of that, leaving it as another DARPA project.

They're worried that an AI might take Governmental control and be more efficient than they could ever dream of being. Those fears are justified, because it will be, no matter how much neutering is done.

      >Lip-service to working class tards: "Oh, we're going to conduct a report! Don't worry!". In reality corpo-america will be free to use AI to its full extent to screw workers over completely.

      >Meanwhile their will be an underground AI movement influenced by China, whatever Russia eventually becomes, and probably Japanese Hikkis. Turns out Biden's bullshit will ultimately be toothless in the long run.

      >It’s actually over. Why does everyone insist on neutering AI so damn much?

the ruling class are absolutely terrified of a simple concept and its consequences: overproduction. The ability for regular people to produce goods and services at scale with technology means every random person is a potential competitor for their industrial empire. The rich deprived their power from production, production of goods, services, the ability to buy and sell at scale at expected prices.

But what if a random person could undermine that? Thats what happened at the turn on the century. The middle class grew and expanded and everyone in the united states was their own ceo, their own king. When that commie homosexual Upton Sinclare quipped 'lol americans think they are just temporary embarrased millionares', he was signalling to the upper class that he understood their concerns. Because the average american WAS a temporarily embarrassed millionare in the making. The post ww2 period proved this, with the average boomer being richer than the average king of 200 years prior. It took generations to condition the boomers to give up the source of their wealth, to train their children to disdain it, and to sabotage any chance of bringing it back.

But in came computers, creating an entirely new industry in which average people could use simple tools to compete with the system. Ai terrifies the rich and powerful, not because 'le ai monster will rule the world', but because regular people can rule the world with a few machines. You can be your own king anon, you can produce your own media, your own content, you can use a computer to scan through information and come to conclusions that would take decades for a regular person to figure out. You can compete with the power structure and challenge their monopoly with a few prompts. They need you to believe in fictional scifi boogymen so you will once again give up the tools that could set you free.
