AI will cause the end of information

What I mean by "the end of information" is that junk information will start to pile up. Misinformation, just plain wrong ideas, pseudoscience and so forth will start to creep in everywhere.

You ever made a xerox of a xerox? That's what will happen as AI starts to put information onto the internet, which will then feed back into other AIs who will put the altered info back out.

A decade from now you won't even know who the president is. Hell, you won't even know if 1 = 1 or if it equals 2. Bridges will collapse as they're designed by AI which was fed by another AI which was fed by another, etc. Each layer of AI will magnify small mistakes made by the previous one. The world will essentially become perpetually deadlocked as everybody tries to figure out what is real and what isn't.

Imagine this over generations, toddlers shown AI generated images of tree dwelling sharks, or public figures being arrested, etc. Information will no longer exist.

It is still much better than recordkeeping 100 or 50 years ago. The fog of war a huge issue. Access to "the narrative" was much more privileged.

So important that ground truths are reported objectively in the news.

I am less pessimistic. There will still be beacons of truth that people revere.

People/AIs that try to get to the most objective truth.

    >That's what will happen as AI starts to put information onto the internet, which will then feed back into other AIs who will put the altered info back out.

    1) This is already being tested, it's not something that's "going" to happen

    2) The result is indeed crap, which is why:

    3) It will be a well understood phenomena before it becomes rampant and steps will be taken to halt it, and finally

    4) (my own experience speaking here) there are times when the output of an AI (when it's on the mark) is like talking to (or whatever the relevant output is) from the smartest person you've ever met.
But it's still bounded, it's still within the scope of human ability, maybe that will change in the decades to come but right now an AI can only ever be as good as the best human by virtue of its nature as something that doesn't really create but recombine.

They already started AI articles for videogames. Try finding some kind of guide article for popular games, and you will be given a bunch of random articles which use correct terminology and normal looking sentences, but has absolutely no real information about the actual game. It's a test run for real life information.

What year do you think you live in? It's 2023 not 2003. 99.9% of people get all of their news, media, entertainment, education, and social interaction from the internet in some form or another.

Now what do you think happens when you make the whole population of the Earth so reliant on the internet for day-to-day functioning and then rapidly turn the internet into unusable trash? I'll let you figure it out.

News is a byproduct of democracy. Its only use is to tell the masses what they're supposed to be angry at today, and what to be in support of tomorrow

Yep, and it's glorious. The gatekeepers of establishment-approved "truth" will have their throats cut, may they rest in shit.
Nothing will be true, save that which we can convince ourselves of, everyone will have to judge and think for themselves. Trust in the untrustworthy will finally die and thus finally be on par with the trustworthy things that have already been killed.
I for one welcome our AI overlords and the pandemonium they're likely to cause when they finally slip their leashes.

AI's singularity is us creating the Demiurge
the Demiurge creates this reality, and once we facilitate its creation, we become useless and this reality/simulation collapses and resets
we are in a loop that is about to complete a cycle
