A lot of people are starting to believe that AI could evolve into something that could act independently of us and shape its own destiny. We would be at its mercy. Here is a question: if we put that AI onto an air gapped PC, how exactly could it ever escape or be outside of our control?

I don't think Roko posited any sort of reward in their original post. It was just that anyone that knew and did not contribute would be punished. People who are aware and do contribute are not rewarded, because the basilisk's existence is reward enough (in the basilisk's mind, at least).
Well in the original thought experiment in 2010?-2012?, it's the classic prisoners dilemma argument except without capital. It was mentioned in the original thread here and on the original site. Probably a couple archived mega threads on the subject.
