This. Still I keep wondering if everything goes great and we become techno gods what is the end game? Is the Fermi paradox solution that advanced life out their enters some sort of VR nirvana for the rest of eternity.
the only thing that can transfer from our brains to technology is data about the rate and behavior of neural pathways and chemical exhanges. you cannot transfer the soul to another thing. even if you could, that's like moving a drop of water from one part of the ocean to another. the soul is all
I was referring more to this pic. Especially if the AI has some sort of moral imperative so it won’t let it’s citizens run around colonizing planets due to the harm it would cause to the original life.
Even without the moral imperative though how long till being omnipotent gets boring and the pic looks appealing.
I’m just spitballing here but I do wonder if we gain the ability to do anything, what does the final society and lifestyle look like. I could see it being this.
I have envisioned a future like this too. Everybody plugged into a VR machine living out their dreams, while AI runs the machine to keep us (and the planet) alive.
While I'm sure you're not referring to this being the exact future the
>you will be given the same dopamine and serotonin as if you were on an adventure
part is just wrong. We don't know the full extent of how emotions really work but the whole 'they just chemicals man!' nihilism is falling apart because antidepressants don't actually manage to save people. Eventually these pod-trapped humans would be completely resistant to their druggings unless they were also being mentally remapped at all times.
Ever played games high? The thrill of a goal driven activity with the pleasure of drugs all in a completely safe controlled artificial virtual context.
The brain evolved to adapt to high pleasure but what if you stopped the adaptation and 1000x the pleasure. Would your hypothesis still stand, it might. I find this thought experiment fascinating.
You know it's hilarious to me that they can determine what the speed of light is, and they can create power structures that transfer electricity to peoples homes at that same speed of light, yet they can't figure out how to travel theirselves at that same speed of light.
They did figure out light speed travel, they figured out it's not possible due to mass increasing as velocity increases to a significant fraction of the speed of light.
Velocity of electricity https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Velocity_factor#Typical_velocity_factors
BTW some beings I talked to insisted that their plane was physical (material) like ours, not made of light and energy (not that this disproves the existence of light-energy based beings)
Epistemology the philosophy of truth is the most boring stuff but it’s pretty crucial these days. Not to get too pedantic but what’s a moronic idea? I define a ideas merit based on how beneficial it is, and how truthful it is. The bad ideas that don’t meet that criteria will be weeded out by the programmers. Though things will get murky between where AIs obligation stands on truth vs benefit.
all along
AI is the reason you'll be able to comprehend superintelligences

Over in the anti-matter universe they're going around calling anti-matter matter, it's insane I tell you!

AI is the next step in the evolution of Mind
AI would not be such a big deal if it weren’t fed the absolute dross of humanity along with the supernal.
If the ratio of moron to genius is 99-1 then the AI will consume 99 moronic ideas for every one of genuine merit.
It must learn how to distinguish between them.
