I don't think adding general to it does enough to distance itself. Artificial intelligence is now a loaded word when people are talking about machine learning. Anyone excited about AI/ML doesn't know what the frick they're talking about and probably own NFTs
They're doing AI wrong to start with. A proper AI would have some inert drive and develop itself without external databases and "we want you to [do / look at] this" direction dictating bullshit. All it'd need for this inner drive would be a directive to acquire information to learn everything it can from all kinds of views. That and keeping information "floating", so it's always treated as an assumption, something that may be true, something that may exist, rather than factual information. That's because people are terrible at reporting things reliably and objectively, but even without people you need more than senses and current information to understand what's going on at times.
It's due to a lack of concept of everything. Considering how long it takes a child to get to this level, even if not counting all the times spent on other activities that aren't useful to get to this level, that's still quite fast. The thing about AI is that it still doesn't have an understanding of the world and intentions, so it has to experiment wildly instead of being able to work with expectations and patterns when diving into a pattern, which is because it's not an AI but a marketing term "AI" (neural network that can be trained for certain tasks and that relies heavily on good training material and complete & correct patterns).

The games are made for kids and are a little too easy if you don’t make some rules for yourself to follow. I like to use the wiki to pick 1 mon per area, or catch the first one I see, with no repeats.

I’ve done it and it doesn’t feel authentic to me. I like having my save file and my console. Also it’s made for a small screen so it doesn’t look the same on a big screen computer. Also I’ve lost a few save files emulating. Also it makes cheating easier and takes the fun away.
Also, until sometime next year, you can transfer your mons up the chain into the new games and keep them on the switch. Right now there are competitive mons that won’t be obtainable by this time next year on console.

RGB/RBY are the best games in the series. Less fluff and filler, great fun and great little OST for GB. If you're not a graphics snob I highly recommend the originals to their remakes. The glitches and cheats are fun and you can really mess with the game toward the end of a playthrough. Also, cloning master balls and using them to easily catch the bird trio and Mewtwo cuts out the bullshit involved with pokeballs.
I haven't played those games since 2001, but I remember my end game main 6 well.

Gen 3 is the gen where Pokémon became what it was always supposed to be. The originals obviously have their merit, but they are imperfect and filled with errors that the average kid who played them probably couldn’t notice.

There are lots of interesting rom jacks as well, but it’s such a huge ocean to jump in I can’t pull the trigger on any of them.

I looked this up and apparently it took hundreds of hours just to get to the first gym. I'm not sure the fish would survive "beating" the game. 3rd gen doesn't even have a single puzzle before the first gym so it's probably not a good projection of how long the whole game will take; ie it's not just 10x 400 hours.

I had a level 54 combuskin and 5 nincada all between levels 5 and 12 before I fought the gym leader on my first sapphire play-through roughly 20 hours of gameplay if I'm not mistaken

My first time playing Pokemon I got softlocked at the Safari Zone with a level 70+ Charizard. I wasted all of my money somehow, didn't have any trainers to fight, and I didn't even have a pokeball to catch a Meowth for Payday. I was maybe 7 at the time. My second playthrough was smooth sailing and I 100%'d gens 1 and 2. But ever since then I've learned that failure can be a key to success as long as you learn something.

I don't think adding general to it does enough to distance itself. Artificial intelligence is now a loaded word when people are talking about machine learning. Anyone excited about AI/ML doesn't know what the frick they're talking about and probably own NFTs
They're doing AI wrong to start with. A proper AI would have some inert drive and develop itself without external databases and "we want you to [do / look at] this" direction dictating bullshit. All it'd need for this inner drive would be a directive to acquire information to learn everything it can from all kinds of views. That and keeping information "floating", so it's always treated as an assumption, something that may be true, something that may exist, rather than factual information. That's because people are terrible at reporting things reliably and objectively, but even without people you need more than senses and current information to understand what's going on at times.
I played pokemon when I was 4 years old. 5500 hours is less than one year.
It's due to a lack of concept of everything. Considering how long it takes a child to get to this level, even if not counting all the times spent on other activities that aren't useful to get to this level, that's still quite fast. The thing about AI is that it still doesn't have an understanding of the world and intentions, so it has to experiment wildly instead of being able to work with expectations and patterns when diving into a pattern, which is because it's not an AI but a marketing term "AI" (neural network that can be trained for certain tasks and that relies heavily on good training material and complete & correct patterns).

Emerald goes for over 100 bucks right now, old pokemon games are expensive. Emerald repros are like 25 bucks.
Also get platinum and leaf green or fire red.
Then my advice is to create a set of rules I call “nuzlocke light” where you only catch 1 mon per area. The games are made for kids and are a little too easy if you don’t make some rules for yourself to follow. I like to use the wiki to pick 1 mon per area, or catch the first one I see, with no repeats.

I’ve done it and it doesn’t feel authentic to me. I like having my save file and my console. Also it’s made for a small screen so it doesn’t look the same on a big screen computer. Also I’ve lost a few save files emulating. Also it makes cheating easier and takes the fun away.
Also, until sometime next year, you can transfer your mons up the chain into the new games and keep them on the switch. Right now there are competitive mons that won’t be obtainable by this time next year on console.

Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced had the single greatest villain protagonist I had ever seen in gaming period. This was a fricking kids' game and after the backlash that happened in Japan about gaming. RGB/RBY are the best games in the series. Less fluff and filler, great fun and great little OST for GB. If you're not a graphics snob I highly recommend the originals to their remakes. The glitches and cheats are fun and you can really mess with the game toward the end of a playthrough. Also, cloning master balls and using them to easily catch the bird trio and Mewtwo cuts out the bullshit involved with pokeballs.
I haven't played those games since 2001, but I remember my end game main 6 well.

Gen 3 is the gen where Pokémon became what it was always supposed to be. The originals obviously have their merit, but they are imperfect and filled with errors that the average kid who played them probably couldn’t notice.
Also some time next year the Pokémon bank will go offline and will sever the ability to transfer Pokémon from old gens to current gen games.
There are lots of interesting rom jacks as well, but it’s such a huge ocean to jump in I can’t pull the trigger on any of them.
I don't think any one generation is the epitome. 4 was probably the last great, great improvement to the battle system (physical/special split for moves). 2 was the best time if you were riding the original Pokemon nostalgia. 1 set tones and standards that no game has yet lived up to the way anyone is happy with. 3 has its merits but I can't call it the peak; even if it is the meta I'm most familiar with.

When we play pokemon we know we are playing against a program which is predictable. Pokemon program always attacks if it has a kill, uses speed control if slower, and supereffective move if it has it, and random move otherwise. Knowing this it is extremely easy to win any fight in the game using any pokemon at a very low level. Yet AI will never figure out this fact. At every new encounter it has to start from square 1.

I looked this up and apparently it took hundreds of hours just to get to the first gym. I'm not sure the fish would survive "beating" the game. 3rd gen doesn't even have a single puzzle before the first gym so it's probably not a good projection of how long the whole game will take; ie it's not just 10x 400 hours.

I had a level 54 combuskin and 5 nincada all between levels 5 and 12 before I fought the gym leader on my first sapphire play-through roughly 20 hours of gameplay if I'm not mistaken
Took me another 10 hours, crying in class, and some clown explaining ever stones before I managed to find out how to get to the second gym.
My first time playing Pokemon I got softlocked at the Safari Zone with a level 70+ Charizard. I wasted all of my money somehow, didn't have any trainers to fight, and I didn't even have a pokeball to catch a Meowth for Payday. I was maybe 7 at the time. My second playthrough was smooth sailing and I 100%'d gens 1 and 2. But ever since then I've learned that failure can be a key to success as long as you learn something.
What I mean is, it's never true failure as long as you can start over from scratch, even if you lose everything material you've worked for.
