The money you print would be worthless, and if it's your own monopoly money you're printing no one will use it. If it's someone else's money you're counterfeiting, expect them to come for you for more than a stern talking-to.

Rather than demand UBI to support people in pursuing their individual endeavors and passions and leverage the newly expanded means of production for an indie creative renaissance, they demand it should all be put in a box so that artists can continue to toil away in obsoleted creatively mechanical job roles for the benefit of huge corporations churning out mediocre slop, because a world where the vast amount of our collective creative potential is eaten up by the mass entertainment industry is clearly the best possible one.

Except that person is the literal embodiment of capitalism. Clutching his shitty skill and trying to monopolize while charging others for it out of fear of lack and greed.
AI can and should turn many things cheaper, only costing the amount of energy required to run the machine. Most "art" (drawings and paintings) should be free. AI is a tool for a post-scarcity world.
If you are an "artist", you will make art because you want to communicate something, not because you want to make money with it. If you want or need money, provide a service. Intellectual pursuits should never be mixed with mercantilism. Neither should politics, healthcare or education. And to the extent technology can make these things cheap enough to run that they can be excluded from the market, the better humanity will be.

If you read this post and see Communism, you haven't understood shit. But it doesn't matter because you're probably unequipped to understand the world of the future.

Only the shitty artists and young screechy zoomers are complaining about the money, because they have enough competition already, and "AI" CEOs are hyping it up as though it's actually going to take their jobs.

Anyone who's prompted knows that's just not true. Drawing is a lot more than writing out keywords, posing a skeleton and hoping for the best.

        >AI is a tool for a post-scarcity world.
Oh, I love this angle. When I talk to artists I will tell them that they should appreciate the post-scarcity world and spend time on something more useful than producing pictures that AI can draw and they should feel lucky now they have more free time to find a true purpose in life. They will hate the thought that their "art" is just goods and doesn't have any intrinsic value.

Afterall, why have a future where I can ask computer to make me a meal or print me a house, if I wouldn't be able to ask computer to draw me my fursona.

If there was a computer that infinitely printed food and building materials from thin air, it would get immediately banned and get enormous, gigantic pushback from every CEO, government, and twitter for literally the exact same reason, because all the farmers, construction workers, factory workers, foremen, and so on would complain that they would lose their job to it and they don't want to learn new jobs or go on UBI or whatever.

It would get WAY more pushback than replacing just some hobbies or fun activities.

That's pretty much exactly what happens and has happened in every invention of a new technology ever, going all the way back to the invention of the sabot-making machine, and even recently when McDonalds replaced its staff with automated tellers there was widespread condemnation right, left, center, and everywhere on twitter.

Same for coal miners, jobs which have gotten mostly either automated, or totally phased out in favor of other energy sources, it's literally a job that shouldn't exist, and the result was "what about the workers".

Nobody ever evaluates it as "think of how good for society it is to have more resources", it's always "if it would replace the workers dont do it"

We're going to see something like that soon with full self driving replacing most driving jobs like taxi and bus drivers.
Once FSD is a thing, they'll make it so cars are so prohibitively expensive that people will have no choice but to buy AI taxi rides.
The same thing will happen if they ever make food replicators. They'll make it so natural food and the replicators themselves are so expensive you'll have no choice but to buy meals from mcdonalds replicator restaurants.
These innovations will have massive benefits for corporations, but for the average citizen everything will be the same or worse.

Corporate advertising is art. The more expansive view of art is a major reason behind why the powers that be are freaking out over regulating AI. If you accelerate the production of propaganda in an environment where it's already spread everywhere it dilutes your dominating propaganda efforts with those of smaller actors who had no chance of competing with you in the past. Attention-grabbing images without having to have a staff of artists or a relationship with a graphic design firm. Persuasive text without being reliant on the press release pipeline. The various "trust" initiatives and related lobbying are all about building a new moat now that technology is filling the old one in.

Science Says: Religion Is Good For Your Health
      https://www.forbes.com/sites/nicolefisher/2019/03/29/science-says-religion-is-good-for-your-health/#445372e43a12

      >There is ample reason to believe that faith in a higher power is associated with health, and in a positive way. For example, researchers at the Mayo Clinic concluded, “Most studies have shown that religious involvement and spirituality are associated with better health outcomes, including greater longevity, coping skills, and health-related quality of life (even during terminal illness) and less anxiety, depression, and suicide. Several studies have shown that addressing the spiritual needs of the patient may enhance recovery from illness.

      >That said, the lack of knowledge linking religious behaviors and health is fascinating given that health care is deeply rooted in religious institutions, and vice versa. In fact, it was religious organizations that built many of the first hospitals, and clergy (supplementing low church wages) were often practicing physicians and medical providers.

      >80% of research on spirituality/religiousness and health focuses on mental health. This is because most associations with faith are related to how one thinks about the world and their role in it. Words that are often associated with religious beliefs include connectedness, hope, optimism, trust and purpose. All of which have been shown to boost mental health. Compassion, forgiveness and gratefulness are also qualities that are strongly associated with individuals who are spiritual and religious. Practicing these qualities is thought to be associated with deceased stress and increased resiliency.

      >Interestingly, although religion and spirituality correlate to an external locus of control (God as a higher power in control of our destiny), most research concludes that those who are religious have a strong internal sense of control.

Religion’s Relationship to Happiness, Civic Engagement and Health Around the World
      https://www.pewforum.org/2019/01/31/religions-relationship-to-happiness-civic-engagement-and-health-around-the-world/

      >People who are active in religious congregations tend to be happier and more civically engaged than either religiously unaffiliated adults or inactive members of religious groups, according to a new Pew Research Center analysis of survey data from the United States and more than two dozen other countries.

      >This analysis finds that in the U.S. and many other countries around the world, regular participation in a religious community clearly is linked with higher levels of happiness and civic engagement (specifically, voting in elections and joining community groups or other voluntary organizations).

      Religious Faith and Charitable Giving
      www.hoover.org/research/religious-faith-and-charitable-giving

      >The differences in charity between secular and religious people are dramatic. Religious people are 25 percentage points more likely than secularists to donate money (91 percent to 66 percent) and 23 points more likely to volunteer time (67 percent to 44 percent)... For example, among those who attend worship services regularly, 92 percent of Protestants give charitably, compared with 91 percent of Catholics, 91 percent of israelites, and 89 percent from other religions.

Less God, Less Giving - Philanthropy Roundtable
Religion and generosity feed each other in fascinating ways
      www.philanthropyroundtable.org/philanthropy-magazine/less-god-less-giving

      >In study after study, religious practice is the behavioral variable with the strongest and most consistent association with generous giving. And people with religious motivations don’t give just to faith-based causes—they are also much likelier to give to secular causes than the nonreligious.

Giving USA Special Report on Giving to Religion
      givingusa.org/just-released-giving-usa-special-report-on-giving-to-religion/

      >People who are religiously affiliated are more likely to make a charitable donation of any kind, whether to a religious congregation or to another type of charitable organization. Sixty-two percent of religious households give to charity of any kind, compared with 46 percent of households with no religious affiliation.
      >Religiously affiliated households give as much or more to other types of charities as non-religiously affiliated households do.

      >How come I am the only person in the world who has realized that AI is a scam? A big fat red herring?
you are moronic. AI literally only solves the barrier between the machine and world(human sensory) and is very helpful. in that sense it helps do translation better, ocr, facial recognition. even in field of robotics for solutions like machine navigation and (physical) search algorithms.
you don't understand what "machine learning" means, it's literally instead of writing programs in assembly it's "the making" of of assembly without code, basically you can design AI compute in a chip. this improves the IO bottleneck. machine perception.
same morons in BOT denied bitcoin back in 2010s and called it a "red herring" just like you did 2023. of course you're always wrong since your intuition is heavily influenced by your inferiority.

40% is my estimate for how many would say they would in America, fewer among younger people, more among older people
i think the number of people who would actually prefer continuing to work as opposed to saying it because it fits their self-image is lower than that, but not zero

The idea that almost half of the world would rather do spreadsheets and deal with bosses and traffic and transportation and meetings and customers and deadlines and exhaustion is ridiculous.

How's your workflow? And is it true that most customers choose commissions over AI since generated images are a gamble on quality? Is there any weird shit AI can't cater to?

        Anonymous

        >since generated images are a gamble on quality?
        Is that the main reason?
        No, even though that's true.
AI is unable to consistently make anything more complex than fairly basic pictures and if you do want something more complex, like a multi breasted character from a perspective and a dynamic pose, you need some artistic understanding of what you're doing to guide the AI step by step.
Most commissioners have no idea what they even want, let alone being able to understand any artistic fundamentals so them getting great results from AI is not going to happen.

Also the more important factor is that commissions are a pretty complex thing, it's not just a picture.
It's closer to the same thing as buying a luxury object.
This alone means that AI gets rejected the exact same way as fake products will get rejected.
No one is going to think of you as cool if you wear imitation brands or fake diamonds, instead they'll think of you as a poorgay trying to fit in.
Commissions are at the same time a picture, experience, status symbol and an act of consumerism.
AI offers none of those things aside from the basic image, there's no dopamine hit included so it can't compete with the human element.
People really don't get this part when I explain it to them, but this is a huge factor in commissions being safe from the AI.

And like I said before, most people have no idea what they even want in the first place.
Seriously, most people have the imaginative capacity of a bag of rocks. Even the world's greatest AI tools won't help you if you're creatively bankrupt.
Very often I have to guide commissioners through the basic ideas in their head so they can get them laid out properly. This is another benefit of interacting with a human, they can figure things out with you.

Artists can have massive waitlists and it's a point of pride for a lot to have their own OC illustrated by the one and only CubCrushingwiener6969. Shut the frick up, an artist wasn't needed to make that intro in the first place, the intro could have been made a thousand different ways with all sorts of already available filters with a handful of artists. Doesn't mean it would give "more jobs". Art market was already oversaturated even before AI, with twitter artists begging for commissions just to pay the rent.
Will you also be whining when robots will start replacing doctors and surgeons, making healthcare more affordable and highering the success rate of treatment? Probably not. Or when robots will start doing other jobs where it will objectively improve the quality of the service/product? Again, probably not.
People are made obsolete in jobs all the time, it's nothing new, adapt, or get left behind.
If your job as an artist is so uncreative that you can already be replaced by Stable Diffusion, were you an artist in the first place, or just a factory line worker?
