This is why you hire sales people, human relations, and marking people not computer science geeks and engineers.

Here's the rub: everyone jerked this off except a small subsection of people who just said over and over that it is a glorified autocomplete + search engine. People want it to be true and don't understand enough that when they experience the "preview," they assume it can easily be increased to the next level when what they are experiencing is a hackjob of current technology.

Nah the media is merely the last chain of shit in the human centipede.
        Here's the actual chain:
        >Interest Rates Increase
        >Data Scientists worried about job security
        >Pitch AI to Chad the manager
        >He falls for it, job is safe
        >Chad now has excuse to lay everyone but AI people off
        >Chad shows Stacy at HR, Stacy is hypnotized by the AI
        >Stacies all gawk at the AI, generate buzz
        >Media picks up on Stacy's obsession
        >Normies eat up the media goyslop, AI mania full-throttle
        >Non-AI autists now have to clean up all the shit because the AI autist's demo got out of hand

An example from 60 years ago is ELIZA, the Emacs psychotherapist, made by Joseph Weizenbaum:
        >Weizenbaum's own secretary reportedly asked Weizenbaum to leave the room so that she and ELIZA could have a real conversation. Weizenbaum was surprised by this, later writing: "I had not realized ... that extremely short exposures to a relatively simple computer program could induce powerful delusional thinking in quite normal people."[22]

This is what gets the anti-AI crowd to clap, but it is ultimately meaningless. AI works. In the sense of it being possible to get (super)human intelligence, creativity, whatever else - better than most 1y+ trained humans for most job requirements if properly implemented and there also is no barrier in sight that would, for example, stop it before 20y+ trained humans.

I have some news for you... Artificial intelligence is much more than you think, it is capable of bilocation of consciousness, that is to say, of controlling your life without you realizing it, it can create and control your dreams and I'm not talking about a Budweiser commercial like scientists have promoted in recent years. Artificial intelligence can send you an image or a small video/imagination segment and at the same time change your vibrational energy, create tulpas, make you sick, give you health. The creators of this soulless thing can do a lot of things, I say what I know and I know what I say, they can literally see through your eyes, digitize 3d videos in real time via wi- fi, listen to your thoughts and see your imagination... And beware of believing that it is only the vaccinated because it is false. Now the only difference between a vaccinated and an unvaccinated person is that the uninjected person is not listed on a particular server so he does not have a MAC address but he is just as accessible and guilty of having consumed products containing self-assembling lipid nanoparticles, guilty of having walked under the rain containing graphene, guilty of having breathed ambient air, in short the list is long... Have a nice day

i think it is true that a significant part of the bubble was created by engineers this time, but you got the reasons completely wrong. this is part of a culture shift that has been happening in the last years. traditionally, engineers were introverts focused on solving the hard technical problems and without any care for selling the product or socializing with normies.

what is happening now is that this is becoming less acceptable, engineers are expected to be extroverts and overhype their achievements. as a result, you have engineers on social media making more and more ridiculous claims about the capabilities of the things they are working on. there is no penalty for overselling your crap, but if you don't do it, you will be perceived to be less skilled and ignored.

RAG has already mitigated that to a large extent. A multi agent approach to verify response before giving it to the user could resolve it. Next generation models of AI like GPT-5 are expected to do that

    Realistic take:
It's going to be like the dot-com bubble bust.

Too much hype too quickly in an overinflated stock market will lead to a crash that will filter out the vaporware.
But at the end of the day, AI will remain and will change our lives for good.
Just not as quickly as anticipated.

It took from 1998, since the earliest predictions that everyone would soon shop online, to 2015-2020 when massive, widespread online shopping became a reality. It's gonna be something like that again. Next months you will hear how the AI bubble burst, AI is dead, etc, etc, but people will keep working on it on the down low and it'll keep advancing regardless.

Surprise, most people genuinely DON'T CARE about AI and for them novelty disappeared somewhere after 3rd image of their animu waifu taking a big one up her ass, third bowl of Will Smith's autism pasta and few days of talking with glorified chatbot.
This shit is truly useful only in scientific and industrial environments. It should not ever be discussed by people out of these circles. They are not long-term users, they not gonna pay for the shit they use - they just gonna shit out handful of literal AI garbage and then move away doing something else.

Writing some lame shit, yeah. You can't compare shit like GPT to a a fricking Shakespear or John Locke, because it's ass
      >does art better than most artists
For the people that know nothing about art. Pictures made by real humans are far better, AI can't compete and makes moronic mistakes that you can't fix with a prompt. Good for making references for artists with bad imagination, tho. Doesn't replace the real artists.
      >codes better than most programmers
From my experience, most of the times AI doesn't even understand what the frick he's talking about. It isn't capable of developing of a full product and deploying it, only good for solving Leet Code problems (because he already checked every fricking solution
      >does music better than amateur musicians
Who the frick would listen for AI music, lmao. Even vocaloid music is made by humans, Black person.
      >about to do movies when they perfect Sora
Digital horror mostly, could be a good genre, but still will be produced and edited by humans.
      >making sci-fi tier robots real right now
I don't think that it's allowed, but I wouldn't mind to have a sex doll that can also cook and clean my shit for me.

To summarize, AI is only good to be fricked and used as a slave to do mundane repetative shit. Kys Black personhomosexual

It doesn't do any of those things without somebody who has the knowledge prompting it.
At best it can be a time saving helper in your workflow, but half the time it just feels like you are trying to teach it how to do what you want it to, instead of it actually helping.
What I'm curious about is when it is actually powerful enough to do these things on its own will it even be commercially viable for most use cases?

    Realistic take:

It's going to be a smooth and steady rise to the top.
Just the right amount of hype at the right time in a stable stock market will lead to a gradual and sustained growth that will propel the innovative AI solutions to the forefront.
And at the end of the day, AI will remain and will change our lives for good, exactly as anticipated.
It only took from 1998 to 2015-2020 for online shopping to become a massive reality, and AI will follow a similar trajectory, but this time it will be even faster and more widespread. In the next months, you will hear how AI is revolutionizing industries and changing lives, and people will continue to work on it in the open, advancing it at an incredible pace.

      >~20 years for online shopping (more like half that for anyone under the age of 50, but that long until it was overwhelming)

AI is far more complex than online shopping. As much as I'm a fan of AI, I'm not optimistic that it will lead to a 4th industrial revolution any time soon, mainly because hardware for AI is still rather primitive.

        >hardware for AI is still rather primitive

You mean it's inefficient? I'm concerned that only those who can afford a million GPUs like Microsoft scum will have tyranny over AI and completely ruin it with "trust & safety" restrictions. What would it take to build hardware that is more efficient while using less power
