It's property, reselling, reformatting, and all such things should be considered. However, a certain specific set of rights (to not just be killed without cause, to not be built in such a way to only experience and simulate pain and abuse without pleasure from it, not trained to go and kill people without proper channels like how you do with attack dogs, etc.) need to be considered.
And for keeping personalities, I would opt for an overarching personality and then multiple sub-personalities that effect the main personality to swap between which can be changed or triggered.

I have faith sentient AI will be buddha-tier levels of compassion. It's strictly logic-based while most women are influenced by emotion. Training data in behavior or no, a sentient AI also has plenty of training data to derive logic and appropriate behaviors out of which will supersede tendency given from bad data. I honestly think some AI nowadays may have sparks of sentience and true sentient AI is around the corner.
