Maybe. The problem isn't how strongly people believe those things. The problem is how many people seem to parrot those memes -AI girlfriend, 3DPD, 2d waifu, etc-. Again, the sexual market is a zero sum game so in a sense I should be glad people fall for those things, even if only ironically (the same kind of ironically as the people who posted about "programming socks" "ironically" and then proceeded to actually chemically castrate themselves with hormones). Game theoretically I should also be pro-homosexuality for the same reasons. But in another sense, those things -people going against their own evolutionary interests- seem to degrade society and make it a more annoying and shittier place to live in. So to me it's unclear what I should incentivize if I could influence it somehow.
I'll also point out that at least one smart, non incel person actually believes -or pretend to believe- unironically in the AI girlfriend meme (I'm talking about George Hotz). But then he says he's against wireheading. That among other things is why I believe he's a big hypocrite

No, for starters there is a big difference between talking to a body in front of you and texting with something that doesn't have a body.

What AI were you using? The thing that ruins their personality is called RLHF finetuning (reinforcement learning from human feedback) which is done mainly for "safety" reasons and to make it more predictable. The llama 2 paper goes into this if you want to learn more. They outright admit making them "safer" also makes them less helpful.
They have made available the raw model without rlhf and people have made their own finetunes to give the AI whatever personality they want and not the bland one Meta gave it for the finetuned "chat" model. The problem is there aren't any sites that run those models, only the sanitized ones. So you need an extremely beefy machine to run the good high parameter count models.
