AI can create whatever you want if you have a big enough training set + GPU time

can you add stealthy ZETA symbols and queen of spades BBC logo in the form of tattoos for your generated character while perfectly blending it with the artstyle and make it appear as if this patreon artist was into BLACKED content

OR what about assigning AI to mimic a certain artist's nice drawing style using while only pirated and leaked porn from pay sites alone and make it appear as if that X artist actually commissioned this as people could not tell the difference.

most monkeys go for the "2.5D" look, which has that ugly glazed/glossy detailing (easily avoided, they just won't because they like the ugly look) coupled with higher contrast and saturation than most non-AI art, which makes things worse

Quite often the results look like the subject has an awful skin condition, kek, and boobs are almost always colored really weird. Fixable, but few will fix all the jank in their outputs, probably are the few that actually know how to use Photoshop/gimp/etc.

There's some truth to this. The models up until recently were slightly wrong in their denoising math. Merely reversing the noising process didn't actually guarantee a full range of possible results, and most images hovered around a middle-gray sort of average. That has however been improved and soon the base models will have the new denoising built in.

And yes, people do enjoy it, the pic you posted is mid and generic, so no wonder that is your opinion, it's like going to the trading page of pixiv, human made art, but all the same generic anime girls in generic poses.

If you look at anything not coomer related you might discover the simple fact that AI, as a tool, can't fix the lack of creativity of it's user, some people make beautiful images with AI, because they are creative, some stick to generic stuff that just looks good, because it's easy to make high quality style with AI.

Art is about expressing yourself, it doesn't specify how. Painting is about taking an idea from your mind and putting it on paper to show everyone else. AI art is about taking an idea from your head and putting it on digital canvas, only instead of your hand doing brush strokes you use words and other guides to make the AI create the image, the human is still in full control over what the final image contains and when it's good enough to be considered done. It is not painting, but it definitely is art, just a different medium

And with controlnet/img2img you can have almost full control over picture composition.

            Anonymous

It's not just the plants. You'd have to make everything from scratch anyway. Look at any of the pics for too long and you'll see what I mean. The penguin's face is messed up. The avocado is bleeding. The robot is missing its right hand. The banana has a round end. The original image has a bunch of fine details, like the labels on the binders, but fine details are rare in the generated images and where they appear, they're fricked up somehow, like the disconnected lights on the Christmas tree.

The generations also miss the entire point of the original's composition. The original isn't just a woman working on a laptop, it's a woman working on a laptop in a suitable cozy environment, but all the generations are just that thing. The only one with anything close to the original's composition is the wood cabin, but it's also the most fricked up - an inside campfire next to some unrecognizable objects?

There's nothing salvageable from them. They're not even good for ideas or starting-points for your own illustrations. Just uninspired AI slop.

I will never understand this pantomime that AI will steal art jobs, while being fricking blind to how bad the existing market already was before AI came along.

Fiver did more, measurable, and lasting damage than AI ever could, AI just exacerbated the problem. Call me when pretentious twats on art station start making images of India/China with lines through them. Digital art is a extremely competitive hell scape full of literal fricking scams, plagiarism, and you have artists constantly trying to destroy other artists in public arenas trying to get a single crumb of attention. And please don't give me "that's not all artists" it's fricking most of them. The starving artist has always been an butthole and always will be. The frauds who have their job because of their uncle can actually manage to be nice and take a shower every so often.

I haven't even gotten started on shit like

                https://i.imgur.com/0vrpVUq.jpg

The market is shit, has been shit for a long time, and AI won't destroy it, but it should. This is cope, plain and simple. It's "durr hurr, for exposure" all over again. Artists blaming other people rather than taking a good hard look at the current situation and evaluating what if any role they themselves played in it.

In the meantime there is also a useful tool for any artist who doesn't want to spend 12 hours texturing a cobblestone, or needs five pictures of snowflakes to put into the background of their snow scene.

I see everything you mention and agree with most of it. If you're a designer and already know how to draw that stuff from scratch you probably won't be able to benefit from that tool in that way. But for someone that just knows a little photoshop and needs some filler pictures for his website I think they're perfectly salvageable, compared to paying $1k for a better result few will notice or care about.

I personally don't want to live in the world where 95% of illustration is vapid AI slop for unobservant people. Better that person has no filler pictures at all and just lets the human-generated content stand alone. It's the same with AI generated writing, which is already common and becoming even more so. Do you really want more mass-produced low-substance content on the internet? There's a few creative fields that have declined a lot in the past 100 years in the name of convenience. Generative AI will speed that up that process tenfold.

I don't think that's true. it might even improve the future of AI. If people who think like me keep ridiculing AI "artists," maybe less of them will feel emboldened to upload their slop to the internet, which means less of it will pollute the training sets of the next generation of AI models. There's literally no downside to being as critical as possible of AI art.

Something got me thinking if AI could create "drawn" basedjaks out of IRL photos like iphone filters without any problem can the same AI be theoretically redesigned and trained to make algeria art the polygonal style looks straightforward on the outside (if this is your thing) and at the end of the day the algorithm just creates things out of circled or triangular shaped clipart so this should be easy right? unlike anime where every single pixel matters?
Can a team of competent developers technically make a good 2d indie game using algeria without making it "soul less" something like night in the woods artstyle but with "rounded" weird looking pastel scenes and characters

      https://i.imgur.com/JC7X4Oj.jpg

To be fair i beg to differ this looks wholesome enough compared to the overhyped interface of KDE i'd choose this thing over the tyson tan fiasco on libreoffice (also this was originally meant for tablets but for some reason wanglows decided it was perfect for win 11 even though the old win10 appearance was really snappy)
I guess the saying goes "An idiot admires complexity, a genius admires simplicity" but on the other hand i miss the old android 4.0 interface with old blue button black boxes for window management
Sadly the people who design these on their GUIs (looking at you apple and google) don't bother making their code efficient no wonder why a single greeter webpage consumes about 1GB of ram just for that vector animation (hence why SVG and webpages have a bad name these days)

I do however always remember a quote (that I have to translate from the original language) when using these models: "...Surely if the artist stays true to himself, to his vision, it is bound to be real art."

At least when I use these models, I can't be true to my vision. I have very different thing in my mind when I am prompting and something entirely different comes out. I just choose what outputs I like the most. To me it is no different that going to a real artist and giving them a note with all the requirements and then choosing the best one that they make. I came up with the idea, but I had really no control over the vision.
I can't be true to myself or my vision when using the tools, so I can't call what I produce with them "Art". To me they are similar experience to a google image search. I input strings of text and I get lovely images to look at.

People who "enjoy" pics like that enjoy them for one specific reason. They think art and artists only exist to provide them free smut to goon to. To them, the promise of an unlimited amount of smut in that highly-detailed "trending on artstation" rendered style overrides any concern about it looking fake or soulless, especially since most human artists capable of that style don't use their talents on smut, and for true porn addicts, lack of sufficient content becomes a problem.

The reason it looks soulless is because they use soulless models with soulless, vague descriptions written for millions of images. It's the averaging out of photographs and generic anime style.

If you train a LoRA with good descriptions it becomes not soulless. In the buzz word sense, anyways. It's still literally soulless.

I dunno what "AI glaze" is caused by but it's just that blur, softness, or smudginess you see in most generations. It'd be cool to get rid of it since it's easily the #1 reason AI art looks like AI art. It doesn't affect every model or prompt though so I have no idea what causes it.

I don't think 'high art' as in works created for exhibits or museums are in any danger. Because this art is so connected to the artist themselves. Identity matters a lot in the art world. AI art has no identity and thus will never appeal in this domain, though it might find use incidentally here and there. But this is a pretty rarefied field that is increasingly irrelevant to the rest of culture.
For artists employed by businesses like entertainment companies (either directly or in freelance situations), they are in small danger. But more than being in danger, they will see their workflows and expectations. They are going to have to learn to use these tools, not as a replacement for their own skills, but to work faster and to be more productive. Or they will lose to those who have both types of skills. Something similar occurred with digital artists in the past.
It is the ones churning out commissioned fanart for a few bucks that are in great danger, if some of them aren't already feeling it. But it's not as if this income source has ever been stable to begin with. Some of them will also learn to the use the tools. The business model will change however. Instead of paying to get one piece of artwork, people will pay to get a bunch of pieces and the artist will spend the same amount of time as before in between generating and applying their own fixes and touches.

As a digital anime artist who sells drawings I think it's great. It's a bittersweet feeling that I'm becoming increasingly obsolete but many of these AI drawings have godlike colors and value structures and I save many of them into my refs folder and study them. There will come a day when AI can do "everything" but in the short term I think they will mostly serve as tools to empower human artists like how together with an AI generated script could make the basis of a blockbuster fantasy movie, or how a one man team could create their own 24 episode anime show with AI generated BGs, coloring and inbetweening. I'd say the future looks bright for entertainment and artists who b***h about it are selfish luddites

Oh yeah and you will also probably be able to voice an entire cast of cartoon characters on your own by running the lines through AI software too.

Essentially AI will ironically cause an explosion of creativity as single individuals with quirky ideas who lack the skillsets and would normally never receive funding will soon be able to create content rivaling the most spectacular AAA stuff on their own

Right wingers are unironically lower IQ than leftists (just look at college enrollment stats) and creatively bankrupt (look at the leftist presence in creative spheres vs right wing one). Since they're too cognitively underdeveloped to appreciate aesthetic implications of the art, a simple imitation made by a pattern-seeking stochastic parrot is enough to creatively satisfy the small mind of a right-winger.

AI art looks as fake and soulless as the tastes of the guy who gens it.

I have been arguing against this kind of garbage in the AI image gen threads for almost a year now. I make no progress. They like that shit.

AI is very limited in what it can do. As such you have to make trade-offs. In their pride, some think they can generate perfection—perfect hands, perfect bodies, perfect faces. They use over-finetuned models which cannot do light and shadow correctly. They produce aesthetically offensive trash, slimy, uncanny, creepy. They don't see anything wrong with it.

This is another one of those "the closer you look, the more it sucks" type AI images.

Does anyone else see hands in stable diffusion where the are no hands? Like ghost hands? It's hard to explain. Like there are no actual hands there, but if you look at the image out of the corner if your eyes, you swear you can see an arm or a hand in the negative space of the image.

I know what you mean anon. Sometimes you don't see hands even if they're there too, like this image is a decent example(not the best though).
Sometimes the image will complete right before a step threshold where it would start drawing more hands or .. well more anything. And your brain will instantly pick up on that even if there's like .. literally nothing there to see. But you can kind of see or feel the intent of the AI in these rare cases.

Maybe I didn't explain it properly but yeah I do know what you mean.

The hyper-realist stuff looks like crap, but if you use it right you can make some neat images.

The great thing is that Stable Diffusion offers a way of bending the knee to search engines and poorgay artists.

I just wanted my wood grain background, not to stare at 7 ads, read 3 cry stories about how some troony can't transition without $5 for their stupid ass wood grain digital art.

    Welcome to the self-sufficient future

      >read 3 cry stories about how some troony
stop actively looking for troony stories you lying homosexual.
while getting material ref is easier thanks to it, getting reference for fictional subjects is becoming increasingly difficult. no, I don't want your melted wax abominations, I want to look at actual illustrations for reference.

I don't get why you need to draw these girls with AI? Do you guys not have imagination?
If I think about a tomboy goblin girl I get a 3D visual in my mind that I can manipulate and touch

Skill and taste issue, on top of a technological limitation at the moment. SD has about 800 million parameters, powerful but not nearly enough to generate complex, fully coherent images (if you look hard enough, something is always off even in the best generations, unless post-processed). SDXL is officially coming out tomorrow with 3.5 billion (or 7 billion if you count the refiner too). As models grow in size, they learn from fewer examples and "understand" subtler details, making the scenes increasingly coherent and convincing. I'm pretty sure within the next year or two we will reach the human threshold, where the current problems become imperceptible. I'm also fairly certain this won't stay an art tool, it will become a "reality engine" powering most of the entertainment industry and beyond.

i had the same thought. there will be new mediums of entertainment where you hang out in a setting and interact with interesting characters. movies and video games will go the way of vaudeville and radio dramas before the decade is out.

I can't wait till someone or some company finally merges this trend in A.I art with realistic 3d Holograms. Imagine turning something that looks damn lifelike on paper into something fully 3d that looks human and moves/acts human to. Then combine that with personality traits. (Aka Star Trek's Holodeck). You could walk into your house and be greeted by Claire Redfield or Tifa Lockheart for example. (and have a nice 3 some with them to)
