idk bro I think the smartphone may be a little tiny bit more important.

the smartphone is a 20th century thing, though

by that logic AI Art, as well as everything else AI related, is a 20th century thing also.

maybe, idk, have people tried using AI to generate art in the 20th century?
i'm not op, but perhaps op meant innovation rather than invention, and instead of art, something more specific like "generating actually decent images based on natural-language descriptions"

            >innovation rather than invention
then in that case, is not the modern smartphone an innovation over the older models?

It's a 21st century things, it doesn't matter if there are a few examples in the 20th century, it only got big in this century and only impacts this century. Cinema and cars are 20th century things, even if there are examples in late 1800s.

You still can't really paint what is exactly on your mind? A good artist is one who has a good idea and has skill to put that in reality.

it's getting there, describing a picture with enough accuracy to match a mental image could be tough just from a human/language perspective
that said, if you've seen img2img stuff, you'll find you can more directly describe your intentions by drawing a crude mockup and letting an AI detail it

      >innovation rather than invention
then in that case, is not the modern smartphone an innovation over the older models?

you're not wrong, it may be a stretch to call a smartphone an invention, as phones and computers existed prior, even "pocket"-sized ones, the smartphone as we know it was inevitable, and nothing new when considering it's individual parts

well anyways the only way this ai art is going to be significant in the future beyond making artgays seethe is if it leads to the development of ai video.

I agree, but to my knowledge the AI draws by looking at stacks of other pictures on the internet. Im not an artist, but some of the best painters draw very unique, creative stuff that isn't a representation of other drawings or pictures

its literally art laundering you dumb nig, there is nothing original about it

Let's face it —if AI does something well enough, it only means humans have already mastered it and don't always need to seek authenticity. If anything, it forces us to experiment and evolve.

      >it forces us to experiment and evolve.
yeah but you won't do shit though
you will get lenient, and you will be unable to live without ai holding your hand
i've seen this happening, and the result wasn't pretty: internet

I won't, but I'm sure others will. I can't imagine how boring the world would be if all innovations came to a halt. This is humanity's silver lining...or demise. A bit of optimism wouldn't hurt.

Thanks to your shitty AI tons of shit, low-effort unoriginal content is going to drown out anything with significant effort behind it for some quick adsense money.
    I hope you're happy AItards

"effort" has never been critical for success
nobody besides other artgays actually care or appreciate the effort that went into a piece, this has always been the case

AI code, and its application in medicine will have a much bigger impact than any art it shits up
