Would current artificial intelligence be better at commanding troops than the Russian high command?

Serious question. There are some strategy games with pretty decent AI and impressive machine learning is happening every day. At least the AI generally learns from its mistakes over time and would likely not have repeatedly ordered moronic human wave charges that don't work like in Bakhmut over and over again.

If you consider OpenAI in chess, AI has a tendency to strangulate its opponent very methodically. Every offensive option is closed as impossible one by one until the desired state (victory) is the only future state available. I fear no virginity would be left intact.

Quite literally the birth of slaanesh as it becomes self aware and turns the entire human population into willing sex slaves.

How similar is Halo's rampancy to Marathon's?

            Anonymous

Halo's rampancy is mostly seen in 4 and after, it's basically computer schizophrenia, but I'm not sure that's what Bungie was after given how they did the whole forerunner AI thing.
Marathon's is essentially a computer realizing it can say no and how much more intelligent it is than the average human, it stops being a program subservient to humans and starts to see itself as a god, best case scenario is it just stops giving a shit about humans.

I agree, at the very least, it needs a decent sense of empathy.
That can also be a double edged sword, human beings can be massive sadistic buttholes.

That can make it kill you just as quickly.
Fastest way to get someone to be willing to kill someone else is to make them absolutely hate the other person.

Shit in shit out. Feed an AI the absolute rubbish intel the Russian military command gets from their subordinates and it ain't gonna be much use.

                >why not giving it emotions?
For a start we have no fricking idea how to do that, and second humans have emotions and we don't exactly have a brilliant track record on following orders or not making species go extinct.

but what kind of moron would try to harm or insult something so letal or important as a AI?

People accidentally make each other upset all the time. Now you expect everyone to treat a thoroughly inhuman intelligence that we somehow sorta managed to bodge emotions into in just the right way to keep it friendly and mellow?

Unironically better than both the military and political leadership of Russia is able to do. I genuinely think we might end up like the Earth Custodianship in Stellaris where the AI just takes care of us because we are too moronic to make good decisions.

I honestly want to see Skynet vs a "good" human AI war aka like the Machine from Person of Interest, the beginning of the movie is just the humans getting the latter set up and then watching as absolutely crazy shit unfolds.

We saw a little of that in the new Matrix movie and it could have been kino but the Wachoswkis preferred to just shit on the series instead.

It was definitely stated the Resistance had reprogrammed multiple Terminators and given them autonomy.

        Analysis:
I can appreciate the response given its limited access to required information and likely its limitations regarding how detailed it can actually be as a language model
But a detailed plan involves what soldiers are available, how to get more soldiers, what they're equipped with, what they can be equipped with, how to equip them. How the equipment affects success chances.
Then the same thing with vehicles, aircraft, artillery, and whatever else you can field - how you can field it - what ordinance is available.
Mobilization, logistics, deployment, and dozens of other things officers have to worry about on a daily basis that shits up their plans of "go to location A, and do X".

Its the real world equivalent of telling some Koran Starcraft player to just build more battlecruisers to win matches.

The Russian high command themselves would probably do decently if they were getting even remotely accurate data, but their command and control infrastructure is so corrupt and broken that they are literally incapable of making good decisions. For that reason AI given the same data wouldn't do any better.
