      Wrong.
It balances itself out because the AI gets better, and the smartphones get better - zoomers become less and less technologically literate. All zoomers have boomer level knowledge about operating a computer, let alone anything more mentally tasking.
That means there are less workers and will be less competition for work spots in the future.
Probably the single best moment in history to actually seriously start learning programming. 2nd maybe but it will definitely be equivalent to dot com bubble at it's peak.

People will just ask the AI to code something for them, they don't even need to know how anything works. No need to hire programmers anymore.

The same applies to all other jobs. Even in construction, AI-controlled robots will take hold quite fast and replace most workers quickly.
A brogramming job is just as good or bad as any other, so don't worry. If these jobs get replaced, all others will be replaced too.

Think of it like this, the AI will take control. You have limited time to get on the inside and add "don't kill fetish enjoyer".

From my observations it will only be a small percentage of people who will survive, probably some kind of religious cult.

AI will takeover everything. I wonder how colleges can even stay in business when so many people are coming to the same conclusion. Why is there no giant spike in trade schools? Robotics will take longer to get to the point AI is at for us right now.

Trade schools don't get you a wife, women date up and they look for income potential above everything else. That's a perceived attribute so whilst traddie can make more than a graduate student he won't be perceived that way

So easy solution to this is to show them your bank account and wads of cash that the grad student will take forever to get and likely won't get it. Women will pick the cash in hand rather than the larper, easily.

It's kinda sad that before AI was a thing, everyone assumed it'd phase out manual labor and leave humans to primarily do intellectual work, but now that we're starting to make actually useful AIs it seems that intellectual work (programming, writing, research, art) is much easier to replace than manual work (construction, surgery (debatable), craftsmanship). Not because it "le owns the shitcoders" but because extensive use of AI to do the thinking for us will probably make people even dumber in the future.

I have a feeling someone saw this coming. That's why they push the tradie wagie bullshit. I'm not for one or the other, i'm just interested in what I can do and how much money I can make.

ChatGPT is good for writing boilerplate code, but beyond that it's limited in scope. It's going to make low-level tasks easier and it'll make engineers more efficient with menial tasks.

Right. So malware won't become such an issue that people will be forced to learn programming in order to properly combat it?
Because that's about to happen big time. These github bots are merely going to be tools that allow us to work out how to maintain our pcs and machines.

Gone are the days when people thought AI and programs could handle everything. They handle things with the same general level of incompetence as people generally.

Hell we might see backtracks in infrastructure for the sack of it's integrity and functionality if new problems arise with malware. Power plants might lose their centralised workstations to a degree. Things really might go Fallout.

... I am ok with this.

I made the prediction about 4-5 years ago that it will be high earning white collar workers on the chopping block rather than the truck drivers and blue collar workers. I remember being called a moronic homosexual back then and scoffed at, and now it's increasingly looking like people are coming around to see that I was right, I see more and more experts coming to the same conclusion as well.

What happened to Pharmacists will happen to every other white collar career being displaced, they'll just create bullshit mandatory jobs and regulations for them to prop up their industries. There's a secondary importance of the PMC in that it serves as a buffer between the peons and the elites.

          Anonymous

It's not just that, the average blue collar niggie works in a small business and not some megacorp. Your average carpet laying firm employing 10 people isn't going to get a half a million dollar loan for new intricate robotics that might replace half of one person's job. It'd take like 20-30 years to break even, it's why it has to happen on a large scale in large companies.

So that AI doesn't kill you.
Machines never solve problems, they make more problems of a harder difficulty.

Luckily, machines won't just simply hivemind like in fantasy. There's clear indicators they have dissonance of logic in themselves, let alone with each other. So I guess that's a positive. It won't be just man v machine (infact man might become machine and machine might become like man - we are already seeing massive advances in prosthetics over the past few years because of the impact of covid on medical science and our thinking with it).

Confirmed for having not seen SOTA. Less than 2 years, max. Shit is getting real at speeds I can't even wrap my head around.

      Anonymous

      But anon.
The faster we program things automatically, the more bugs we get and the more malware we get. The more of these, then the more work there is that has to be done potentially by humans to check the integrity of the process.

      For example:
We tried automating trains here in NW Australia. There are many many trains and train lines in the Pilbara for transporting iron ore to ports on the coastline. The distance is vast. The problems that can arise - many. One day, Rio Tinto, ignoring such obvious hiccups, decided it was ready to remove it's train staff and replace them with automated drivers. What happened following that was this. Trains would obviously malfunction eventually (in the Pilbara that is even more likely than normal given the rough terrain, 40+C heat, large cargo transported and the general degredation all of this does to both the train AND the tracks).
So what happened in the end to alleviate these issues? They decided to man a supervisor on the tracks every so often and they would be forced to truck it all the way out to the middle of nowhere with their crew in order to fix common issues that came up. What they discovered was that not only was it not effective cost wise with the auto system alone, but they had to pay ridiculous costs for people to maintain the equipment. AI worsened the transport situation in the pilbara through this awful implementation of it.

Now imagine that they also had to deal with robot terrorists that occasionally infiltrated property and blew up equipment, or that the tracks would occasionally shift at random without the impact of a flood/storm, etc.
That is the future of the implementation of AI in our system. All it did was create more sophisticated headaches and costs than there was to begin with. People made a living out of fixing those bugs. People will probably even make a killing MAKING those bugs.
Human programming will merely change, not vanish.
