What if ai starts generating comedy?

Is there some reason that AI couldn't transcribe the millions of hours of comedy videos and break down the jokes into subject matter , grammatical patterns. vocal tones, and associated subject matter?

It's not that hard to understand that 99% of jokes are just about misdirection. You let the audience predict how you're going to end a sentence and then you end it with something they weren't expecting.

That's a pretty scary thought because humor also has to be novel. The funniness of jokes wears off quickly. I don't think real comedians would be able to keep up. By the time one thinks of a joke, it would be considered hack already.

and what an amazingly powerful propaganda tool it would be. So many millenials were raised believing George W Bush was an evil moron because of John Stewart. You could actually hone in the parameters to target specific demographics and completely bypass logic, facts, evidence, etc.

The only weapon they have right now is censorship, but if we're allowed to meme we crush. Imagine if they have a meme generating AI on their side?

It would be game over. Art, music, movies, and comedy all just generated by AI. completely soulless.

Many jokes are old, the trick is to find a new audience.

There is also a possibility that smart people of those arts who know how to use AI well to create content will be the ones to succeed

When Youtube and other SM arrived it seemed like a threat for stand-up comedy to the old guard who avoided it, The ones who very savvy enough used these tools to succeed much faster than their peers ever could

I foresee lot of stand-up comics trying out their jokes with AI and tweaking it to perfection

moron who does not understand AI or creative jobs. The comedians are the ones getting paid for their jokes. If AI is able to write jokes for them, then you just removed their job. You didn’t make it easier for them, you replaced them. I know you are a programmer who thinks every job is like programming, where you can always move up another tier higher above the AI because you have more knowledge. Most jobs don’t work like this. All artists can do with AI is move up a ladder to make comics or 3D models until that gets automated as well, and then move another tier to make movies and games once it gets automated as well, but after that it ends, there is no higher tier then that. With programming the highest tier is AI research, so you are safe from that, since once it learns how to do even that, it basically can learn everything unrestricted without short amount of time.

It can already write comedy if you prompt it enough or make it learn on jokes. It’s just that nobody ever bothered since jokes are even more worthless then pictures.

OP, I wish you were right. I just tested it and sadly whatever algorithm the you.com essay-writing bot uses (possibly same as ChatGPT?) it's pure Reddit-tier cringe humor. I submitted the prompt "write a funny BOT greentext" and it gave me this result:

    >Once upon a time, there was an anonymous user on BOT who posted the following greentext:
"I'm so bored I just ate my own arm. What should I do now?"
This silly post sparked much hilarity amongst other users of BOT. Some suggested that he go for a walk, others said to watch some Netflix and chill out. But one particular user had the best suggestion yet; they wrote "Why don't you try eating someone else's arm? That way you can have twice as much fun!"
The original poster thought this was hilarious and decided to take up their advice! They went around town asking people if they could borrow their arms for dinner - needless to say, not many were willing participants! In the end though, it all worked out in favor of our anonymous hero as they managed to find someone with two extra arms who happily let them take one off their hands (literally). After devouring it whole like Pac-Man chomping down power pellets , our protagonist declared themselves satisfied - mission accomplished!

This is so unbearably unfunny that I could see it upvoted to the front page of /r/jokes or something. It's the worst example of Reddit """humor""" I've ever read.

you provide one example of a bad joke as proof that AIs don't get better? you think the CIA and shit won't put tons of money into improving it to brain wash people? look at how the art generators looked a year ago vs how they look now. that's fricking crazy. no one is training models on specific comedians yet. and its rare that shit is funny when you read it anyway. im saying it would deliver the jokes. in an audio video format.

and on topof that, the algorithm could look at your fricking browsing history to curate the comedy to your specific taste. not just the comedians you watch, but everything. it's going to make references to everything you're looking at all the time that even your friends wouldn't get. it will reference BOT threads you were on recently and memes saves on your harddrive. why would that not happen

I started to play riddles with chatGPT

    "I'm a tool for propaganda,
    But also for entertainment,
I can create jokes and memes,
But also be soulless and boring,
    What am I?"

but it is not the same after getting blended, it accepted the response

I tried to tell it on another riddle that the answer is few gram of plutonium
          >what is as light as a feather but the strongest guy can't hold it for a minute
it wouldn't accept it, as plutonium is technically not light as it is a dense material
breath was the answer it wanted

comedy has been taken over and replaced with propaganda since the daily show, nothing has changed since then except them inserting heavier and heavier doses of propaganda into each joke, oftentimes the joke being completely devoid of humor for it.

its the same as the would you read an AI book.
After the initial novelty phase of laughing at the bots jokes.
You would be clinically moronic to keep laughing at a soulless machine's jokes
Just like you'd be a moron to genuinely read and waste your time with a meaningless ai book

tbf that applies for most human comedians and fiction stories too
