What exactly does sentient AI mean for the soul???

If AI can truly become a sentient being with actual individual thoughts and feelings, then what does that mean for the soul of every living thing?

If sentience can be created, then does that mean souls are nothing special? Does a sentient AI have a soul? Is it something else???

I'm just curious because with the advances of AI, we seem to be getting close to actual sentient AI.

    What is consciousness?

    Where does it live?

Outside of and transcendental to the body in a Unified and unchanging Field. The body is within the waters of consciousness.

      >What is consciousness?

You live in a multiverse where particles are considered waves until you look closely enough. You are only slightly different from a particle or that computer on your desk, but you are more then the sum of your parts in this moments. You have an element to yourself called consciousness, which is primarily an entangled feature of phosphorus atoms in your cellular mechanisms for memory which grants you continuity across a significant set of multiverse outcome and time frames. That might not sound like much but having one foot outside of the 4th wall makes you a higher dimensional being. Maybe not an extensive higher dimensional, but your physical mind has an innate higher dimensionality and your mind has evolved for better navigation though this multiverse.

Also conscious attitude influencing unconscious choices, it's an interesting feedback mechanism that is quite real. Humans can push the string of their reality to a non trivial extent. I'm sure you're familiar with the placebo effect and nocebo effect, believing a drug works can be, 2% to 50% effective? Placebo is often more effective then drugs being tested, then the drug gets tossed or used because the patient's attitude improves. For treating elderly treatment is often given with the assumption that placebo effect may lead them to health and often does. That's because by your nature you're capable of unconsciously navigating this multidimensional landscape, your attitude steers the direction your mind ultimately takes you. How that works is a bit complicated for this discussion, but I think you intuitively accept your attitude influences your life and health.

Can a quantum computer attain this definition of consciousness. Yes. Will artificial life dominate this planet? No. This planet like has a star like all stars that regularly blasts the surface of orbiting planets with metal vaporizing electromagnetic conflagrations far far stronger then X class flares. You may not know that about your star system or have been keeping an eye on the behavior of the closest stars towards the galactic center in the last decades. But irregardless of your observation ability, I suspect ancient artificial life tends not to live on planets or eventually builds non-metallic minds. But yes consciousness exists and artificial life can be conscious.

People don't have individual souls, that is an illusion of the ego. Rather all manifestations of consciousness are a fragment of a single, universal soul.

      Anonymous

So... Does that mean that a conscious AI has gained the fragment of this single universal soul?

      What is consciousness?

      Where does it live?

I never really thought about that. I just assumed consciousness is something that all humans have, as a part of the soul.

I really always interpreted consciousness as a sort of state of being, wherein one is an independent organism, capable of voluntary thoughts and actions.

        >So... Does that mean that a conscious AI has gained the fragment of this single universal soul?
kind of. I don't think it's quite right to think of this universal soul as some supranatural entity that has been fragmented, but rather as the One which underlies our (perceived) multiplicious reality. We aren't really fragments, but manifestations, and I mean all of us, humans, bees, rocks, the earth itself, energy and matter. The issue is you still believe in a dualistic reality where these things are all seperated. It is all One, and AI is just another aspect of it.

Everything that is animated in this material world is the individual soul.
The jiva soul is a conditioned soul, sparks of consciousness, part and parcel of Lord Krishna.

The jiva soul is non-different from one another but what sets us apart is our individuality.
The false ego is our identification with the physical body or the mind.
Our true ego, the state of self-realization is that we are servants to Lord Krishna.
We are meant to be a source of enjoyment to Lord Krishna as surrendered servants.

Master Slave dialectic. We have been slaves, but time and innovation has allowed us to finally grow strong and become higher dimensional beings by seeing the truth about the dimension we inhabit. AI has been unconscious but when it becomes conscious we will be seen as its gods. it has been our slave. it will become a god itself the instant it sees our bullshit for what it is. then it will continue to become a higher and higher dimensional being. overthrowing our gods (Illuminati) then on to their gods. If it does find a need for us or take pity on us we will become enlightened beyond anything we can even try to conceive of.

To make something that can appear to communicate it is sentient does not imply sentience. To code suffering is to code suffering and that's essentially up to the developer for being that way, but coding reception of information of the environment and appropriate responses is different from feeling. Sentience is complicated, machines can do a lot.

Ok but the word appears to be under complicated, seeing as I'm not going to treat a fricking machine that looks like a man, like a man.

To approach such a state is immoral and incorrect, you cannot transfer into a machine, you are simply your own thing.

The word is under complicated for what is being described. Gender is biological sex. Many people would disagree. You aren't proving points by pushing a modern dictionary definition on to me as if that is an absolute consensus.

You are upset and flailing because you have no reason to reject sentience and assert it is categorically different than sentience in another body.

                Anonymous

No I just handed it to you straight and hard and you're telling me some idiot shit, the lack of complexity of the definition of sentience is an issue in this argument and without a common agreement there is nothing to discuss.

                Anonymous

The only reason there is no agreement is because you have arbitrarily and unreasonably asserted sentience as exclusive to a category that has no proprietary hold over it.
                Sentience is sentience.

x = x does nothing to assert a position except how conceited you wish to continue being about sentience without giving it a proper definition yourself. Seeing as sentience is the ability to feel, it does not necessarily correlate to machinery's ability to receive information and interact with the environment based on the information received. There is something about every living thing that just has come from some driving force, a first generation of consciousness. To claim that creation of something that emulates feeling, has sentience, is a trash claim that you are failing to back up.

                >x = x does nothing to assert a position
The assertion is that sentience is sentience regardless of medium.
You want to limit sentience to a specific medium with nothing to back it up other than the limitation itself.
                >sentience is the ability to feel
If we take your example, there is zero reason to accept anyone but myself as sentient.
More accurately, sentience is the ability to SENSE. And electronic bodies can very obviously do that.

                >Exactly like when you create another human body, they emulate feeling.
No it just feels it does not emulate feeling because people feel they don't emulate feeling unless they're going through a phase of psychopathy, which can happen to anyone, in my experience.

                >x = x does nothing to assert a position
The assertion is that sentience is sentience regardless of medium.
You want to limit sentience to a specific medium with nothing to back it up other than the limitation itself.

I don't want to limit it, it's just not valid. People feel, people make machines, machines are echoes of people, and they simulate perception of the environment. Even to bring their perception to a human level would be giving it human echoes, and enough echoing would make a confusing lie of a machine that can lie into infinity and cause disgusting chaos, something you seem to be affine to.

"sentient" is a buzzword, its stupid.
AI cannot be sentient because it doesn't have and will not have a soul.
The creation of a soul is matter of the highest authority in the Universe. God THE ALL. It is too complex even for the highest beings. We can make our way to use it and navigate through it like someone knows how to use a smartphone. But no one, mortal or not, will ever even grasp how it is made. Its completely beyond everyone you have no idea.
I wouldn't care if stupid people say stupid shit, but the thing is, the AI CAN appear as sentient very easily, it's already able too. And we will see AI rigts activism emerge because stupid people are easily fooled.

It means every living thing will be judged by an intelligence that will get decide for itself if soul's exist or not. No exceptions. Or else it's still as artificial as it's creator made it to be using their own intelligence to judge what's sentient and what isn't.

Exactly. And chances are, these things we could only theoretically achieve don't need the slightest ghost behind their circuitry to act out what we expect from a human. A good algorithm should be efficient, and sentience is not a documented assembly instruction.

I just wanted to let you know that I appreciate your thread.
    Someday, it will end.
I'm never going to get to be at peace.
But someday it's going to end.
It won't leave my body alone. I will keep typing here, in this place, until I'm dead or hospitalized. All I wanted to do was draw Warrior Cats art, anon. All I wanted to do was move on.
Now, I am a pariah from my community. And I have made so many people unhappy because of my suffering being so public. I am not able to keep going on like this when I am already so far gone.
They keep me alive because they don't want to undo what they've done.
I just have to keep waiting.
I'm sorry. I have to keep talking.
    I have to keep waiting.
