What else will AI make obsolete?

Man "artists" are coping hard about ai art. I remember when digital art got big, traditionalists were upset and people collectively mocked them into silence.
Now those digital artists are threatened by new technology.

An artist of the future will be someone will a powerful AI, digital photo manipulation skill via photos hop to do touch ups and that's just fact.
Why cope?

I like AI art more than most "real" art, especially when it's almost photorealistic but still has that surreal dream-like feel to it. Like something's slightly off about it, but it's too subtle to pin down precisely what it is.

Same, if 3d modelling/animation/etc could be automated and I only needed to know programming and have good ideas to make games solo I would be in heaven.

A lot of AI is trained based on data sets that were pre-classified manually in third world countries. e.g. transcribing customer phone calls, image recognition, etc.

            >I don't think so, since it's pretty bad at anatomy
Have you seen the shit people pay for when it comes to 2D porn?

Yeah, but a lot of that is deliberate and fits a certain type of degenerate taste. It's questionable whether the AI can emulate that without being specifically trained for that particular purpose.

            Anonymous

Correct. Most people do not understand what art is and think it's solely technical execution and do not understand why an AI which only has the past as a frame of reference is going to be a boring shit show without a human still investing considerable work into making a finished piece. This isn't a 'cope', it's the absolute truth about the inherent limitations of this process. However the average midwit on this board sees a result they couldn't have personally produced and now think they found a shortcut, not realizing they still have no creative spark to make something actually interesting out of the tool.

              Anonymous

AI is less bound by patterns than human minds though. It also creates art without pushing an angle which is rare. All human creators are usually pushing an angle which is supposed to subtly or often not to so subtly promote and glorify target groups they're part of themselves (and shit on the ones they dislike). Only raw genius is able to abtract himself from this and paint reality.

Art is as much about fashion at that moment in time and you're trying to claim being completely detached from it is genius. It isn't, that's the sterility being pointed out, especially given that these training sets are already stale references. True artistic genius is the ability to not only sense the current trends in the public consciousness but to also be able to predict and play with them, which is not what these programs are producing. It will still require serious human intervention to create genuinely interesting art out of them, which is certainly possible but it's not going to be happening because one of you dipshits wrote a prompt and it is still going to involve hard work.

In time, when it can understand perspective and proportion, it will allow the creation of a moving scene, able to identify actors and objects and their relative positions, etc.
Honestly right now you could take images of 3D models to capture how a character should look at a certain position and train the software for how they should look at all perspectives and make an image set for an individual character in different places, but it would take a lot of work. Give it 20 years and the average consumer could make pixar films with ease given a high-end graphics card and cpu.

      >If no new content was put out the AI's content would grow stale, it's already gotten boring to look at.
A). Commercial art was already stale.
B). Artistic "style" is ultimately just imperfections in technique that amplify and contribute to artistic tone. It can easily be replicated by throwing a jumble of artists into the prompt field and adjusting the weights until a "style" that you like comes out of the other side of the sausage machine.

I'm a musician, I'd much rather pay for some weird, uncanny valley art machine than trying to scour the internet for the 1 artist who does stuff I kind of like, and then pay him 100 dollars for something that barely resembles the original plan I had in mind.

AI art is just the visual equivalent of vocaloids, so far.
Should be able to do decent illustration and commercial stuff soon enough, tho.

    Replace real artists?
    No.
A lot of middle-class people will finally be able to buy art (even if only AI-made), but AI art will make actually the work of real artists even more expensive because of the increase desirablility of provenance/craft/"authenticity", etc.

A lot of people have lost a lot of money on NFT's, so rich people (except for idiot athletes and celebrities) will stay away from AI art.

            Anonymous

Middle class in america is $75-130k a year for an individual(depending on where you live) and $120-200k a year for families. Below that and you’re just a well off poorgay who can’t even fully find your retirement plan or build savings while having a car payment. At best you can stay poor while affording a few luxuries like annual trips to Cancun.
Essentially you need to be able, with proper budgeting, to hold down:
            >a mortgage on a 2.5 bedroom place
            >a car payment/lease
            >health insurance if not provided by employers
            >max 401k/Roth IRA contributions

Right, but people that make 75k a year aren't spending money to commission paintings for themselves, at least not if they have even the slightest fiscal prudence.

People are making a big deal about something which simply isn't there yet. The AI does not yet understand what it's drawing and this is not an easily solvable problem since in order to actually understand what it's drawing you need general AI, unless you specifically train the AI to draw one particular thing.
You can't tell the AI to draw a clockwork and reliably get something you could actually build. You can't tell the AI to draw a city and get something that is actually habitable because it does not understand the underlying graph structure how it relates to people and so on. It even struggles with clothing since it does not understand the three dimensional nature of it and how it actually wraps 'around' a person, since these terms mean nothing to it.
AI has become competent at colouring and choosing colour palettes; it's not bad when it comes to image composition either, but there are all sorts of details that are still lacking, and if you don't want shovelware garbage you still need to hire a human artist.

That being said - I have no doubt that we'll get there, but when we get there, then AI is capable of doing everything, since the capability of drawing everything is tied to the capability of understanding everything.

AI as it is now is a tool. All my university submission are cowritten by AI. I prompt it with what I want to expand on and easily get my essays done. I'm unsure if this should even be considered as cheating or plagiarism.

It could happen that they run some anti-plagiarism software (also AI based of course) on the generated text and find some mismatches here and there.

        >I have this idea of writing my Masters Thesis about AI and business strategy, and as a proof of concept have AI write over 50% of it.
I'm sceptical whether they'd let you do it since - at least over here - you need to sign a legal document which states that you did everything by yourself.

Yeah, but the plagiarism tool they use might not just check word by word but compare styles and it might show a mismatch between your text and that of the AI, not to mention that the AI itself is not necessarily bound to write in such a singular style.

That's true also. Up until now I have always modified the text to be my own style though. I guess I'll do the same with my Thesis just to be on the safe side

Wanted to reply on this as well. The university suggests you speak about your ideas with your peers to find your focus and expand on your paper. Is it any different to consult AI? AI is far more efficient in it.

Well, if you're using the words of someone else as your own (in that case the words of the AI) it might still violate some terms, but you'd have to ask a lawyer.

AI as it is now is a tool. All my university submission are cowritten by AI. I prompt it with what I want to expand on and easily get my essays done. I'm unsure if this should even be considered as cheating or plagiarism.
I have this idea of writing my Masters Thesis about AI and business strategy, and as a proof of concept have AI write over 50% of it.

Econogays will feel the AI wage squeeze quite soon.
That said, a friend of mine graduated on some management concept, and applied it by having some interns write the thesis. Professors knew, no problem, but it was a private elite management school, with nothing but corruption and greed as educational goals. I am a proud alumnus, too.

These people are approaching it the wrong way. Even the most super advanced whizzbang neato cool beans quantum frick you AI still requires an input to get an output. It can't just create on it's own. Same thing with the robots cooking and such. It can only follow a guideline. As long as people remind themselves that creativity is still needed, and they provide that, they will do well. But all those people who would just relegate everything to the AI and don't do any thinking for themselves? Yea, doesn't take rocket science to figure out how those people end up.

I'm fairly sure that most of the 20th century art was just marketing crap. All a computer does is take the imprecision out of it.

The late 19th and 20th century painters had to show why their work mattered while photography didn't. It's no different, but in all honesty, if the public doesn't get it, let it be the political shit that it's mostly been throughout history. Just be honest about it, stupid asshat aristocrats.

Anyone saying this is better than real art needs to get their shit together. There are artists that are great at what they do but never get a chance in the industry because they didn't paint it with their butthole.
These people die penniless and broke, and then the same israelite pushing butthole drawings will come in and buy the dead artists art, then promote the dead artist and sell his art.
The art industry is israeli for sure, but it's not the artists fault. These people usually kill themselves and they're generally gentle souls. They also refuse to paint anything with their butthole for their israeli overlords.

My point is, the art you get to see is not of the level of the art that exists.

I was being facetious with the bank comment. All the same, I find the AI image invigorating and interesting, while the deer painting is just a landscape, however beautifully done, but something everyday and normal with no other emotional attachment other than how much effort the artist put into painting it.

The question you should be asking is, what instructions did the AI artist give to his machine to generate it, and why did he decide to display this particular output. As a failed artist, it excites me that aesthetics can be captured outside of the artists artistic capabilities. This is a very exciting development.
