You can't reason with demoralized people. Epic AI taking over le evil world is the current iteration of the revenge movie in their head. I can pick AI art out of a lineup with 100% accuracy and all of that music sounded like shit. "W-well it's going to get better and better! maybe! I think!" It's the problem of modeling. You give a couple data point to redditors and suddenly the universe is a vacuum. Things will continue in their current trend forever. Endless multiplication without impediment. This has happened literally never but don't stand in the way of a midwit with a hunch.

What about those of us who are confident in saying we are getting to the point where we no longer can easily pick out AI art, it is going to destroy mass industries at a pace unseen in past technological revolutions, will dumb down the population are rates you can't even imagine, spread propaganda and cover its tracks after lying, demotivate the masses causing ennui to be the defining trait of multiple generations and those are the reasons we are concerned?

AI will be able to make music better than any human soon, the best songs you have ever heard in whatever genre you want

        Anonymous

        >Best songs will be made by AI.
We already had some AI making music and it was not uncanny abomination, it was real music, but generic. The thing is, it will never be better then the best composer purely because it needs training data to mimic. Maybe you will get amazing prompter that mixes two things together to make new god tier melody, but that is basically just sampling at that point. You expect rocket takeoff in AI once it starts teaching itself, but art has no hard rules, so it cannot do the meme it did in chess and go. Similar to logic and coding. It has practically not progressed in its functionality beyond copilot, it can just give you boilerplate trash with some tweaks that has small but significant chance of being wrong. You cannot make it learn by itself to write better code by putting two AIs against each other like in chess because coding is not a game, and because to teach somebody how to code you need to have robust logical reasoning, which to this day is debated if it is truly learned logical reasoning, or if we just made algorithm that supercompresses learning data and then finds in its dataset similar question to that logic puzzle. Again, proving lot of the current AI capabilities are probably just a mirage. From truly logical reasoning to being actually creative. People say AI pics are generic, yet half a year ago it seemed super creative. Maybe the mirage exists because we never saw actual generic remixing machine, and just assumed that corporate slop is what it would look like, so when it didn’t look like corporate slop, people like you got convinced that it must be creative. This is no different from GPT4 being able to ace any leetcode test far better then any human but at the same time being shittier coder then average junior, diversity hire or jeet.

      Just like 99% of 'artists'

        Anonymous

And that 1% takes up 90+% of traction, like with all media. 99% of YouTube videos are trash not worth watching, and that 1% gets hundreds of thousands if not millions of views. Same with indie video games, music, and so on. This is why AI looking mostly generic or sovless is much bigger deal then it making good pictures on average. If people didn’t value sovl and just wanted as well rendered pictures as possible, art would have not survived after invention of photography.

This is indisputably true, but you act like it fricking matters. People are idiotic consoomers. They don't appreciate art and never will. All they want is more product. They literally do not care what the quality is. In fact, at this point in history, if you point this out they screech and reeeee about gatekeeping and pretentiousness and how shit actually tastes good if you swallow a bit.

          >owned and controlled democratically entirely by the people
The problem here is that making every little decision democratically would be impractical. So what you'd have to do is create a class of decision-makers. And what happens when you get a class of decision-makers? An elite few running the show.
So, yeah. Back to square one.
          >But, but, the people will be in control so they can tell the elite class what to do--
The decision-making elite's first task will be to disarm the populace. You know, for public safety.

It's a sad old story, repeated anew by every naive "progressive".

People can look at "soulless" art and enjoy it. Mostly because it's not really that far from what is actually considered masterpiece in casual's eyes. Eg unedited NAI anime gens is very close to many most popular artists.
But people are not going to enjoy "soulless" music. Even the most casual listeners care about the context of the music. They want relevant/funnt lyrics, half naked ass of some celebrity, some random bullshit that will make it stand out, etc. AI is not going to work well in here. At best it might replace generative music, but that's an already established niche and limited to few genres that are actually feasible to be computer generated without being boring(Ambien, trance, etc)

Man, AI music is going to be hell to prompt. With pictures you instantly get the result and whether you like it or not, but with a song you need to listen for 2 and 3 minutes just to hear a random mismatched note before regenerating it again.

              Anonymous

Generating a whole song at once would be useless, the workflow meta will be generating separate tracks of 2-3 second loops and layering them.

A better (more ideal) workflow might involve generating the whole song and then providing feedback so that the AI can refine the result.

              Anonymous

correct. ai music is intrinsically 100x harder than ai art because it takes minutes of listening vs half a second to look at. moreover, every bad part of the song (bad instrument, bad vocal, wrong note etc.) destructively interferes with the rest of the song because thats how sound works

there's no inpainting, you either get it right at the start or you fail

I dare this homosexual in the image to claim that the music industry didn't already destroy what you hear in soundtracks, waiting rooms and store music. Because it's already a corpse and the endless sea of music already being produced online has completely atomized everyone from having a shared context. What even is a 'radio hit' today that isn't some industry plant that barely any of us are aware of?

2023 as probably been the years with the most (shamelessly) sampled songs released by popstars, creativity is already dead, AI won’t change anything, how can you look yourself in a mirror sampling Eiffel 65 in 2023 to produce a inferior result from a track produced 30 years ago… then you have all the metal band doing metal version of 80s hit now, some are ok but again no real creativity, you have to really search to find something worth listening and it’s clearly not on the radio.

Pretty much every piece of modern media I can think of that has an actual budget behind it is absolute slop anyway that seems to get forgotten two months after release. Every new release is just "flavor of the month." The amount of things I can actually consider a modern classic that were made past 2012 I can probably count on my hand. So, to me AI is just another blow to something that was already dead anyway.
The people actually making shit that's good and memorable are funded by kickstarter at best, and completely broke at worst. Eitherway they will still make stuff out of pure spite to themselves, autism, passion, obsession, etc. They won't use AI because they want to micro manage every artistic decision

All the best music is already copyright free for anyone to use because it was written centuries ago by central Europeans (mostly Germans).

And you can have it performed better than most artists with NotePerformer, especially now that NP4 is out and can use sampled playback engines instead of synthesizing.

The world will be made a better place by programmers (techbros waaaaaah) and there is nothing the whiners can do to stop it. Everyone's job is the most important thing in the world to them, but it's a sacrifice we're willing to make.

Why does no one ask the question: "How does a society even transition to the star trek utopia without money and get replicators?"

Well obviously you're going to lose your fricking job that's how.
And AI is the initial step towards replicators, replicating data. Eventually we get to replicating physical objects, 3D printers will evolve with AI.

Getting good at music or art take 100x as much effort than learning to code lmao. It makes no sense that someone would be able to master a skill like painting, yet wouldn't have been capable of learning other skills if they tried. I think you're jut jealous that other people have "cool" jobs doing art and music while you have to do boring office shit all day

Makes not difference if generic drivel is produced by humans or AI. If people can't tell the difference, that just says a lot about musicians.
Most popular music is already produced by the same couple of producers and ghostwriters:
      https://nypost.com/2015/10/04/your-favorite-song-on-the-radio-was-probably-written-by-these-two/
      https://vocal.media/beat/the-same-person-made-all-of-your-favourite-songs
Scientists prove songs have been getting more and more similar:
      https://playback.fm/blog/science-proved-music-getting-worse
      >regurgitated mush
And people have been regurgitating the same samples for decades now. Every single song samples past songs. Look up your favorite song on https://www.whosampled.com/

        Anonymous

There are people(myself included) that listen to generative music, even if it's just procedural without AI. AI can work really well in genres that already work well being algorithmically generated, like various ambients for example.
You are falling for the same fallacy like people did with art. "No one will like AI generated art because it's soulless!!!11" and yet tons of people do because you don't always need soul.

It's funny how every person behind these music/art/photo ai sites is always some twenty something rich person with a history in business. They are the flies zipping around hot shit, trying to scam the next moronic boomer with too much money.

Together with friends we've made quite popular AI website in my country and we are just literally who programmers without any capital and without any experience in business besides working as mid/seniors.

I mean I understand why third/second worlders love generic music and art. But if you have an IQ above 130 and are somewhat creative, you long for experimental stuff. AI just takes existing music and creates more generic stuff, which only capitalistic cattle loves.

You build a website and stole the ideas of white people that created them. I said that the reason why cultures like you didn't evolve past stealing white men's accomplishments is because you lack aesthetics and art.

Only if artists have sufficient free time in which to develop their skills and follow their passions. No matter how passionate you are, it's harder to become a great artist when working, paying bills, and taking care of family take precedence over hobbies. Gibs need to be implemented in order to usher in the utopian artist paradise future

Thats true for any hobby. You have to decide what is important for you. Browsing BOT during your time off, reading, writing, or painting? Work is going to cut into a lot of that time you could be doing making art, but lets be honest with ourselves here...
If you don't make art during your time off of work, you wouldn't be making art with unlimited free time.

if I can use software to generate humand-grade audio for my next e-girl-hunter game then what's actual difference between humans and software when it comes to art creation? some people say "soul" but if they can't distinguish human-made art from software-made art then it's all bullshit.
there is no intrinsic differences between the two and I have no reason to pick human every time if the software can fit the requirements.
"artists" will have to do art for the sake of art and find a real job.
