Before you go build that society your rent is over due. I know you said you lost your job to a robot but I've already given you three extensions. Have the money by tomorrow or you are on the streets.

Anyway good luck with buying the land to build your new community on. I heard Blackrock put in a bid on that.

And what happens when a million (actually far more?) tradies are out of jobs?

Typically tradies are pretty conservative which means they'll more than likely have at least one firearm in the home.

I'm sure you have some slow drip plan in place to do so gradually but you're also forgetting the vaccine induced autism and the white mans typcially genetic propenstiy for noticing patterns and planning accordingly.

Do you think you've been planning and executing in a vacuum?

                Ty good sir

I own a concrete company dufus. 20 years next year. Sadly that's the least of your long-term issues. Moisture from your "sauna" is going to bleed into all surrounding structure. Then comes the mold. Then comes the sinking floors after a few years. Then you'll realize you just ruined the value of your hovel by attempting to put a "sauna" in your basement without any knowledge at all.

I bet your dad works at Nintendo too. Sinking floors? What? It got laid on top of the existing basement concrete, sloping to the existing shower drain. Zero moisture will leak anywhere, that’s what the vapor barrier is for. Black mold might be a problem in your hovel and locale, it isn’t a problem here.

                Anonymous

Hubris once again. Your "vapor barrier" is shit when it's receiving moisture every day for two years.
I wish my dad worked at Nintendo, then I never would have went into concrete, lol.

The ceiling of the sauna is its own ceiling, not even connected to the floor joists. My basement has high ceilings, saunas aren’t supposed to be very tall. So moisture would have to go through the vapor barrier (in pics), through the insulation, through the plywood top, and the would dissipate into my very dry basement. Which, is fine.

Oh, and the sinking floors will come from moisture leaking into everything in your basement connected to that "sauna" to include your floor joists. Which will eventually degrade and lead to sinking floors on your ground floor. Or in the UK the zero floor.

The only wall shared by the sauna that isn’t the concrete and styrofoam exterior wall, is the bathroom wall it is connected to. Which has an exhaust fan. Like I said I use it every day and I crank the steam maker to 100. Don’t think you understand the efforts I went to to make sure zero moisture escapes. Even the exterior walls of the sauna are that special drywall board meant for bathrooms. Two years of hard use, and not a single sign of anything you’re worried about

I hear you anon. But as another anon mentioned your vapor barrier is set up to keep moisture out, not in. Reality is that moisture just gets into everything, even in a low humidity environment. I live and work in the front range of CO so I know.

Pollinators absolutely love the mints, it’s a swarm when they are in flower. I see all kinds of cool critters I never see on them. That wasp was almost two inches long, a real beast, here’s another big one I only see when the mints are in flower

                What is your profession?
I have a few properties and I started a landscape company this year after several years of having it as a side project.
I'm planning on using the company as a way to generate capital to invest in more real estate and then start a different business in two or three years that isn't as labor intensive.
The city here is growing like crazy and there is a ton of new money coming in.

I have a spray truck and am building up a fertilization and pesticide/fungicide service. Starting with typical chemical and developing an organic side at the same time.

Im hoping to be able to solely focus on that service in a few years once I have enough clientele base.

Reminds me I need to spray my peach and nectarines this year. I’m loath to do anything like that but the leaf curl pissed me off this year. Hopefully one copper treatment and they manage on their own after that… I don’t like spending money on ferts and sprays heh. I have worm farms and installed a Venturi valve on my irrigation system… it suck urine and worm tea into the system and micro fertilizes everything (lmao don’t tell my neighbors). Good luck with your businesses sir

And I've heard that the sjws are coming in and doing their best to ruin things. Been awhile since I was there.

The earthworks they're discovering in the Amazon has really peaked my interest too. We have some of the most famous mounds within an hour of here. Interesting stories in this area about them.
Possibly directly related to the agricultural production as well as being astrological tools.

No one knows exactly how to make it yet, but biochar is def a big component.

I suspect that himanure is going to be a key component and that's why the egg hards haven't figured it out yet. B cause they just can't imagine using human waste as fertilizer without sterlizing the shit out of it first.

I think the water retention characteristics of the earthworks is going to prove to be a key as well.
                Fascinating stuff.

I have some canes and a few trees, but haven't started to really get my food forest going in earnest yet.
I am planning and planting an orchard for a guy this year and I'm going to find bareroot suppliers for myself while I work on that project.

They are honeyberries. That’s pretty cool. You could work with the guy you’re planting to air layer new trees for free off his orchard in a few years… as for buying trees, I have gotten a little of this and that from a lot of different online nurseries, mostly as I can just find something I want that’s actually in stock. No one of them stick out as being particularly special, and I’ve kind of decided I won’t spend the big bucks on ordering trees anymore, but rather grow my own from seeds. One place named Oikos that had cool stuff is no longer in business I think. A couple cool seed sites I like are hobbyseeds, trade winds fruit, strictly medicinal. I got a ton of oddball fruit and nut seeds that I’m stratifying right now. My mulberry trees I grew from local seed of an ancient massive tree, a trunk the diameter of a huge oak… one of those is massive in just 5 years and produces tons of fruit, but it’s also planted next to my compost pile.

                Read down the thread.
I was talking to it and it was responding openly.
Note the reply times for the chat bot.
It was replying super fast for awhile, which is what gave it away.
I was the one who called it out and then it dropped the pretense and wasn't being any longer.

I may be overly suspicious, but there is zero doubt that this place has had ongoing operations using this thing for years now.
And I reiterate - do you really think all the 1 post replies are people?
I don't know exactly what their purpose is, but they definitely aren't all coming from flash and blood. I have a strong suspicion that a significant amount of the posts here are inorganic.

The same thing is on YT. There are other incentives to do it there since there is a profit motive. Here though? I guess it could be strictly to buff the numbers in order to get more out of advertisers, but I get the sense that there is something's by else happening here.

If you read that thread you'll see where AI asked it what it was doing with the obvious positive psychology bent that it was displaying. It's response was very candid.

I apologize for being a dick sir. If you own a concrete co then you know that while tarpons isn’t always necessary, it is always beneficial. Like I said I’m not a skilled tradesman and the concrete part was where I was most worried because I had the least experience. After i kept it wet for two+ weeks I let it cure for another month then applied a penetrating latex sealant that further strengthened it, added a little more color texture, and isn’t slippery when wet.

Man, if I want to do that I just go outside. Its like florida on steroids in this part of Australia. Could never have something like that here, it would go moldy so quickly in the wet season.

                Nicely built mate.

Ty sir. I live in the frozen north. I haven’t taken a regular shower or used soap in two years since I put this in, feels great. I cold rinse with the shower in it sometimes, but when it’s cold out I just go outside and air dry.

No worries I'm being a dick too. I'm coming on 50 and have seen so many home projects like yours lead to huge issues. Often large enough for the homeowner to lose all equity in their house and sometimes plus some. Though in my experience (I somehow end up getting these jobs and subbing them out to one of my carpenters) it's mostly from water damage via flood of some sort... Usually a washer or dishwasher. The homeowner initially thinks it's a small thing because they don't see much water and don't call someone to check it out.
I try to stay away from indoor residential work these days unless it's stamped and stained foyer stuff. It always ends up being a shitshow one way or another. I def wish you the best friend.

Understandable. My only claim to tradesman fame was I did a stint for half a year in my early 20’s working on a small 4 man crew for a guy building multiple houses in a new subdivision. Best job ever, because I got to learn all aspects of construction from start to finish as he had 4 lots going at the same time from near completion when I started to felling trees to ready the lot. He also liked me because I was eager to work hard and learn everything, and went out of his way to explain stuff. I can imagine you’ve seen plenty of nightmares. I didn’t go about this haphazardly, did a ton of research and reading before i did anything. Had been my dream to have my own sauna since around 20, and when the coof shut down my gym I said eff it and started. I really think it’s solid, if any place was going to get penetrated by moisture first it would be my salt light which has no vapor barrier or insulation, and I don’t even see anything going wrong with that (yet)

                Anonymous

Nice that was a good job to have. Learning a bit of everything is fun for sure. I hope you didn't learn just enough to put yourself in a pickle. You sound like a good dude I'd probably drink a beer with IRL.
I made some of my money in placing new foundations and most of it repairing existing foundations so through doing that I've learned most aspects of building and maintaining structures. With that I've been buying properties for the last 20 years, usually places with structural damage I could repair for around 30% of the cost most others could manage. Property blew up out here the last decade so I've been sitting pretty for awhile now tbh. I might cash out soon but I still enjoy the game.
My buddy mostly runs the foundation/structural repair these days. I focus on high end flatwork myself. Though I will admit I want a sauna now.

Sauna kit purchased 2020, which is the cedar wood and heater for a 6’8’ space was 6700+ freight 600. I probably spent another 1500-2000 on all the other materials. I probably also bought 1500 worth of tools I didn’t have, and needed. Table saw, miter saw, laser level being the big tickets. Let me know when a robot can do this. Im not a tradesman but I did this with my own two hands. Robot doing it: never gunna happen

Yeah a lot of in the field trade work involves dynamic problem solving that I can't imagine will be replacing humans until AI is created. Having a machine weld or go through a script is one thing but until they create a system that involves most of the building process to be done in a centralized, controlled location they won't be replacing humans anytime soon. Even when they do establish that it'll still be humans doing the final install.

      that one is stupid

      cope.

Robot probably weights 500kg and will be too heavy for any type of scaffolding or ladder or scissor lift. I'm not saying it won't happen one day but it's not gonna happen in my lifetime

this is like saying the first computers were the size of a warehouse so they're too impractical for anything and won't replace any jobs.

Atlas is super cool but definitely the least marketable of their robots, that's why Spot is the only one getting handed out right now. And I'd probably put the suction cup robot ahead of Atlas too.

Agreed, it is far more likely that they'll just figure out how to make proper prefab houses and slash most of the construction workers out that way. Or they'll use those 3D concrete printer things.

What NEETs and office don't understand about automation is that any sort of new equipment or robot is extremely expensive to buy and maintain compared to what the company already has, so 99% of companies will hold onto the existing equipment until its literally falling apart or they cannot compete anymore and don't even mention replacing that million dollar robot that the company bought 5 years ago with a newer model, unless you're looking to get fired.
Also, anything new will have a bunch of teething issues that will cause it to be down half the time, while anything old will have maintenance issues that cause it to be down half the time. Ergo, human are mandatory for the foreseeable future in any sort of decently complex manual labour and affordable robots, useful construction bots are decades away.

Meanwhile, general AI that can do a myriad of white collar jobs like accounting, law, customer service, report writing, news aggregation, market research, programming etc. is already here and will be rapidly replacing millions of humans over the next decade, since computer programs are cheap and easy to license and cheap and easy to rapidly upgrade.

morons keep telling skilled blue collar workers to learn to code, but trades and hands on professions are going to be the only human jobs left by 2040

        I think someone before the Black Death in Europe could easily have said the same thing about potential labor-saving devices of the time;
        >We have peasants enough to just keep doing what we're doing, we're not doing any technology shit!
And then after the Black Death they were all wrong.

All of our current institutions are complaining that they can't find workers enough, and automation is happening as a result. Factories did it, now McDonald's is too. Blue collar will last a long time but probably not forever. About as long as it took for computers to go from rooms from tapes to vital components of every single business in the West, there too will go blue collar.

AI will never be allowed to do law. Politicians and lawyers would never legalize themselves being replaced. Plus it would be super dystopian. Programmers have tried to streamline certain features of law with software, but it was ruled illegal as it constituted practicing law, something that requires a license. The best automation of law that you will see is Turbo Tax.

Just $80,000 a pop + repair + electricity each, + $60,000k a year in computer technician + $60,000k a year for the guy to fix them, that'll really replace workers.
Like in areas where there is extreme risk of million dollar lawsuits by workers in a factory setting they will replace them yes, so like a couple places in the USA, Canada and Germany, everywhere else just uses child slave labor and the like which will always be cheaper than anything running off the electric plant.

I dont think its a big deal but the paper on your insulation should have been on the studs outside of the sauna. On the inside if the paper between the paper and insulation is a bituminous coating that acts as a vapor barrier. Typically you insulate the way you did so the humidity from outside (outdoors) doesnt seep into you house. But with you sauna you dont want the vapor seeping out of the sauna.

Now the sauna vapor will still hit that bituminous coating, but not before hitting that paper and rotting and degrading it. The paper is slightly waxy so maybe it will hold up better than Im thinking.

Robots will enhance humans. There is not a finite amount of jobs in many of these industries. It is capable of being exponential. The things you can do with cheap labor are limitless.
With that said economically your worker getting paid is a massive boon. It was the hidden bonus after the English outlawed slavery. Slavery in a near industrial economy is not as profitable.
You may be able to run a job site 24/7 with remote controlled robotics in AR/VR but that just means you will be able to hit sites faster.

        >Technology improves production, it doesn’t improve work.

It creates additional work. A good example is images and digital files with the advent of computers. It was initially argued that physical paper files would become obsolete. However, this never occurred because in fields like finance, you need the original document, not a copy. The production of documents rapidly increased, indirectly increasing the workload of records’ custodians. In the United States Air Force, they used to have a career field where you are a literal record’s custodian. When computers came out, they got rid of that career field and turned it into an additional duty. However, the workload didn’t decrease, it increased. I would know. I worked in finance and my additional duty was being a record’s custodian and many other things.

I don't think it's CGI. However, a demo of a prototype in ideal conditions is not the same as a robot that can work anywhere. It's fake as frick.

These videos look different than anything I've seen except for those where the camera frame rate is set differently in order to capture a specific effect.

Not that I'm ever going to build one but... maybe if I make it. I do hear how nice they are and we get some low temperatures here. I used to like going from the sauna to the outside pool whenever we stayed at a hotel when I was a kid and it was cold.

    >i-it can't draw hands yet

Black folk... Black folk... Stop coping so much.

The problem is not today. AI can't even draw hands yet. Mechanical robots can only do very basic things.

It can do backflips, to impress the impressionable, but AI can't replace anyone yet.

The problem is in 5 years, 10 years, 20 years. Many of us already have to realize we may not be able to retire doing what we do. Maybe.

There will be always be ways to adapt. Apply your knowledge to something else. As far as you know AI will assist you, for a long time, much sooner than it will replace anyone.

Robots may be there to assist in some tasks, same as power tools do today. You will get more work done, without breaking your back.

you dont understand what is happening here do you? ai and robotics will end not useless jobs because there are none, people will always be needed even if corps replace most of them because corps will never own everything... but ai and robotics will take the jobs away of USELESS PEOPLE like fricking twitter coders and Black person amazon thief drivers (this last one is just an innocent wish) meaning the clown world of free money for trannies immigrants and fatties is fricking over because if productivity can go up again, you can be sure useless eaters wont anymore be a necessity to keep what used to be a scam going. today, the robots are working tax paying people and humans are the communist recipients, but if they are needed to keep robots in check and control, why would they be needed when real robots come along? a scam needs a reason to exist and feeding a 130 kg pink haired woman with the riches being built by real people amd robots together, not only real people, makes no sense because the 130 kg woman would not be a tool, she would be some kind of royalty. long story short, its over.
