Much more likely that we're going to see UBI than see any current government risk complete collapse or open revolution trying to tell the majority of people they're not meritous. The majority of people not being meritous has always been the case in history. Governments are not, nor will they ever, get rid of the unwashed masses.

The UK's plans for net zero carbon emissions as outlined in the document by the thinktank at ukfires.org basically means anything related to fossil fuels is going the way of the dodo. Your job as a windshield fitter or motorcycle repairman is going to have a limited duration. It also said the government should do all it's construction now that it thinks it needs since concrete industry accounts for 25% of all CO2 emissions so that will have to go too. And because meat is "le bad" they plan to phase consumption of that out too.
There's at least 16 occupations on your "safe" list of survivors that won't survive.

The problem with this is that AI needs power. Considering how politicians in the west are doing everything they can to destroy reliable energy sources, there probably wont be AI in the future. Its back to manual labour 16h a day....

      >The problem with this is that AI needs power.
      ... for now.
Every 2ish years, the amount of power required to do the same computational task halves.

12 years from now it will be 1/64th the amount of power
20 years from now, what takes a massive server farm to do currently will be able to be computed on a 2500$ desktop. 5 years later, a laptop, another 5 years, a cellphone.

Especially if dedicated "ai processing" hardware becomes more prevalent instead of just abusing graphics cards to do it.

Nothing will be automated other than silicon valley oriented stuff, software/media production, you overlook one important detail: many companies in the US are lazy because they squat on monopolies, they effectively prohibit competition from their industry by way of patents and ip law, or competing against them is nearly impossible without firt having millions or billions of dollars to offer an alternative product, costs on tooling, tool development, and labor for factory automation are astronomical if you are trying to make something no one else can easily make.

      Anonymous

      Police maybe.
Security guards? Most of the stuff they do is just patrolling and making sure doors are locked up. Easily automated, or at least, consolidated into one security guard monitoring/controlling a group of robots patrolling an area.

        Anonymous

        >Most of the stuff they do is just patrolling and making sure doors are locked up.
And most of what police do is drive around looking for speeders. That's not really what you pay them for, though. You pay them to (hopefully) make the right decisions when shit goes south and you need someone to step up and handle it. Security is a lesser degree of this. Mostly takes care of basic functions, but if that were really all it took, businesses would just have automatically locking doors and cameras and call it a day.

Maybe in a 30 years, but the AI is so bad at specific stuff, like for instance languages, like it won't be able to translate properly without a human checking, it wont be able to transcribe properly without a human. Sure it will be more and more incorporated and in the end there will be no real human translators, you will only need a QA/editor. But AI has looong to go before it can take over most IT jobs without human supervision right now.

Why does anyone listen to these idiots with their plans for the future?
They're never going to work the way they think they wlll.
First, the WEF and others with their AI and automation dominated net-zero society are utopians.
Control freaks always want a utopia because they hate random change and want everything to be frozen in time to their specifications.
A Utopia is something that never changes and stays in equilibrium as is there plan.
Their plans break two fundamental laws of the universe
    >The Law of Constant Change
The problem with Utopias is that things always change therefore a utopia is impossible
The second law they break is
    >The Law of Unexpected Developments
Did you ever hear the joke that the best way to make God laugh is to tell them your plans?
Well they're going to find out the hard law.
    Finally there's the
    >Socialist Calculation Problem
A net-zero carbon neutral economy is basically a centrally planned economy like the old Soviet Union. And it won't work. This was figured out in the early 1920s by a wide range of economists. They predicted constant inefficiencies, shortages, and eventual collapse. A net-zero carbon free economy. even supposing it can be set up, which I don't believe, will shortly afterwards collapse in on itself due to it's logical contradictions.
Sit back and get out your popcorn.

I stopped ready after the first line, as it is already highly automated and moving fast towards becoming entirely automated. A skilled ag equipment operator has already lost his job to any idiot that will work for half as much, as all is really needed is a seat weight to drive to and from the fields. Auto guidance (self steering with sub inch accuracy on mapped fields) has been a thing for well over a decade now, and automation of machine performance and functions that outperform even the most skilled operator (harvesting, planting, sprayers applying chemicals) are standard now for people running new equipment. The big players are all making tractors with out cabs.

It's silly to think that any job will be safe if AI can replace software developers. The only thing that will remain is doing what the AI says. If you are a plumber, you will have the AI assistant monitoring you and dictating what you do.

You won't need any talent or skill. It will tell you what to do and if you don't do it, it will report you to the manager and you will be replaced by some other average joe that will do what the AI says to do.

I don't think chatGPT or any AI is even close to being able to threaten real jobs. All it is at this point is a fancy search engine. The biggest game changer is really the image/video processing.

Think of how test levels will return to normal when all the men are out working in the sun doing physical labor instead of sending emails and writing code in their pod cube. They might even be able to maintain a erection again. Birthrates will return to normal as well. A new golden age of man.
