I've tried countlessly to explain to normies that their ideas of "AI" are totally wrong. We don't have AI yet, and we're not very close. We have deep learning which is super cool, but it's not autonomous and is more do just predicting everything. I think the image and audio will surpass the chatbots. It'll mostly be seen in microservices and saas's but it won't be taking everyones jobs. Functional programming could already do that.

normies btw, all the sudden you are expert on technology, like the formula for AI did not existed way before humans, same way there was a period in the universe were humans did not existed yet but the biological mathematic formula was there to create them.

The fact that it is a prediction model doesn't change the fact that its extreme depth and dataset size has resulted in emergent properties.
Can you see the seams sometimes? Yes. Does it sometimes perform tasks that are unbelievable for a prediction model and also useful? Also yes.
It might take more data than we have humanly available from all of history but I think the simple statistical system they have now could be the next best thing to a general AI if they made it big enough.
Regardless, for the first time ever, AI is more than a meme and companies are throwing billions at fixing the problems with it. With that comes new algorithms, not just completion engines. Who knows what can happen?

Lol fricking brainlets. The inteligent part is that AI can find context and manage information then parse it to fit the desired outcome. its not how it works mate, I've explained it here

                [...]
                [...]
I'll try to explain it in a nutshell...

Neural networks have been around for a long time, but it's only recently that we've been able to fully utilize them, thanks to advances in hardware. This has allowed us to develop powerful AI systems.

Imagine we want to train a neural network to recognize images of birds. Our goal is to achieve as close to 100% accuracy as possible when given an image of a bird and an image of a cat, so that the network can correctly identify the bird.

At its core, a neural network consists of simulated neurons, which are inspired by the human brain. These neurons have weights that are initially set to random values. In the beginning, the network knows nothing. As we start to feed it images of birds, the input triggers certain neurons to fire, sending signals to other connected neurons. This process continues through multiple layers of neurons until the last layer selects an answer: is it a bird or a rabbit?

If the network gets the answer wrong, it employs a method called backpropagation to work backwards through the layers and adjust the weights, so that it leans more towards the correct answer. The input is then fed again, and this process is repeated, potentially millions of times, until the network can correctly identify a new species of bird or differentiate a bird from other objects, like a tree.

This is a simplified explanation, but it's important to note that neural networks are not databases. Instead, they rely on pattern recognition to learn and make decisions.

                [...]

In other words, the firing of all these simulated neurons creates a pattern. You could argue that it's a database of patterns, but these patterns are not easily understood by humans. In fact, they're not much different from how our brains actually work. Our brains are not databases, but rather biological machines that recognize and learn new patterns. This process occurs continuously throughout our lives, as new connections are made between neurons and old, redundant connections are replaced when we acquire new habits or knowledge.

it's not accurate to call it a database, as the neural network operates differently. Once the neurons are trained, they consistently produce the same patterns when presented with familiar data. They can also make correct predictions for similar-looking data, thanks to their millions of weighted neurons being fine-tuned from exposure to numerous data points. In essence, a neural network doesn't function like a traditional database that can be looked up. The model built on top of the neural network is simply an additional layer that enhances its capabilities.

it does that, i can have it write me 5000 words for an article just like all those wordpress sites you see when doing google searches. The trick is using the word: continue

the best way for that is ask it to build a summary first or a plan, then ask it to expand each section one at a time. when it stops its because you are limited to so much output. Then all you do is give it the prompt "continue" Then you need to copy paste its output to a file somewhere, but the conversations are kept for up to 30 days. They have the option to exclude your date from being used to train the AI, i leave it on, i don't care about privacy when i use it, i want it to get better.

It apply to everything, literally everything, it challenges ideas because it offers a better outcome from a outdated narrative , as it evolves it forces the human mind to evolve also from past outdated narratives or concepts

And so far they only simulated the neurons in the brain and not consciousness. consciousness is the awareness that observes the mind aka the ego. consciousness has no control over the thoughts that arise in the mind, the mind is the workings of the brain.

Conciousness is nothing more than recursive hierarchal agents evaluating themselves. There’s a crude proof of concept that does this called AutoGPT. Once that is perfected the LLM will be conscious. Conciousness is not as special as people think, it’s just recursive hierarchal agents evaluating themselves aka (body mind soul, Id ego superego). But you are probably too stupid to even understand what I’m saying. If you watch AutoGPT run it’s easier to understand what I mean when you can watch it in real time.

You could say ChatGPT is like a 5yo human because it still doesn’t have values and will often just make up nonsense. But it predicts the next word the exact way the human brain does. It has to be the fact that statistical text fitting is more impressive to the ordinary person, redditors don't care about all the classifiers that came before.

No, it's the concept , because it generates in seconds whatever you prompt to it.
It's technology becoming ultra simplified , I never learned to code and Know I can crate my own tools and software based on my ideas without taking 1 year or more of coding classes and busting my head figuring out code which is absolute tiresome and time consuming

Well it's nice that you appreciate the tool, but I maintain there is still no shortcut but to go through the process of learning the code and understanding the algorithms themselves, instead of some mystical marketing version of it. You can always let other people do the coding though, that's what software is for. I don't know what else to say, half this thread is marveling over how the mystical bot is able to come up with answers and wonders if it's similar to consciousness. Better let others do the programming then

                >You can always let other people do the coding though, that's what software is for.
First you have to pay, then you have to wait, sometimes comes with errors .

We are talking about a tool that does that in seconds.

Another thing you seem to forget,. is that this concept AI can be used in many other things, like for example in the medical field, robotic operators , AI algorithm solving complex things humans can't figure out, like for example generating a solution to once for all treat cancer or covid .

You are think in the present, not the potential it can bring in the next years , you don't understand how this is cutting edge technology and many humans will not be happy with this probably , because it's actually intelligence over cleverness

I get what you're saying, but from my point of view it's you who doesn't understand what this technology is and isn't, and is letting your imagination run free with what a possible superintelligence could do, unrelated to what chatGPT actually is. You prefer it to stay mystical so you can do this thought experiment. What if it can cure cancer? I imagine the chatGPT writers would have a good snicker about that one.

I'm just saying and listen pls because your view of intelligence right now or in the way you express it is narrow, not saying you don't know things.

I'm just saying intelligence manifests in so many formats even a simple rock or a grain of sand.

You see a desert of sand in the middle east for example, the desert is there does not talk or move , but it has it's own sense , it's intelligence no matter if it's not the conventional human intelligence you are used to , it's still a manifestation of intelligence.

                >does not talk or move

Yes it's true since the planet also moves, but you get my point, the intelligence is also present in the desert and in it's grains of sand

                Anonymous

Sure, but I prefer to not call that intelligence because it obscures the mechanics of the thing you're talking about. Classifiers do magical things from a human perspective cause we can't imagine recognizing handwriting in the blink of an eye. That does not make it intelligent, it's just something we engineered. This is the proper perspective for someone who wants to understand the things we build and the things that exist. Insisting that there is an analogy between the human brain and the "neurons" in a neural network does not do anyone any good, because it suggests there is "something" which gives the "neuron" extra magical powers, even though there's not. It's awe for the sake of awe and it uses obscuring to maintain the mystery. I don't like it, but I understand that it's a personal thing. For me awe is at the things of creation that exist out there, like a desert or a creature, and awe at the ingenuity of what people have engineered. That's enough

Intelligence in the sense of the mechanism that created life simple as that , being you a extension of it, another format of that intelligence same way as animals or any other element of the biological realm .

Sorry but intelligence is not just humans, as far im concern humans just like animals did not created life. There are actual animals that have other formats of intelligence that we don't have in the actual present . Like for example many animals pose abilities that we would never dream of , same way we have formats of intelligence that other animals don't have

                Anonymous

Yeah I agree there's many different kinds of intelligence, don't see a problem with what I said earlier. The main point is that awe over the mystery of intelligence does not actually help understanding it or building algorithms that imitate it, and marketing that promotes this perspective is as base a magic show

                Anonymous

                >algorithms that imitate it
Maybe it clarifies intelligence in a logical point of view beyond our human ego and delusion of the self. I mean we created gods in our own heads, for some is the God of the sky for others is the God of the desert ,Others it was the Gods of the fertility , Gods of this and that.

And so many other things, many this is a sign from the biological realm the original intelligence manifestation into further dimensions of the mind

                Anonymous

Or, and listen closely here, algorithms are simple procedures that a braindead click-clack 0-1 machine can follow that by their sheer scale of operations and clever structure can produce results that we can't understand, and NOTHING MORE.

I actually see it in this moment as the computer world , technology , circuits , which is advanced , i'm talking about the computers we have at home.

The computer world is not sentient(is it?) but it is indeed a complex format of intelligence , that we use in our daily lives, it is made of biological components, metals, silicone , plastic , elements present in our planet.

But it seems it is stepping beyond that , it seems that it's actually a evolutionary process of the manifestation of the original super intelligence.

Do you think life was created or always existed and there is no creator? Were is the source?

You think space is infinite with no space limitation or corners? And it always existed since ever , and was never created . Maybe there was no big bang after all , and simply intelligence expanded generating new planets new species what we call life. Or maybe this is not even just 1 universes, how many might there be there, would a futuristic AI be able to generate 1 universe based own it's own characteristics ?

What is the future of the human species?

Will humans become genetic engineers , space travelers , could humans possibly be the link to the creation of new formats of natural ecosystems in space colonies like pic related , extending life and intelligence and not going extinct but actually evolve own DNA

also forgot to had, super intelligence already existed, it always existed if you realize it, since it created all this The original super intelligence already exists and probably always existence, theses things we are discussing are merely a manifestation of it including a possible futurist AI

They double down on fear of it and then they get angry with you when you show resolve and don't believe it as anything more than a glorified search machine. Just look at the nutcases in this thread; look at their obsession with how they try to disprove people who obviously know what AI is. They believe what they say fervently with no objection regardless of how inconsistent everything they say is in a logical perspective. Religious people do this, I mean look at the nutcase replying to you:
        >I worked on AI for 4 years and I was horrified of its capabilities.
Lol, is that not a person trying to make you fear their god? Honestly, just look at the way it's worded.

They also can't be able to earnestly defend their assertions with simple dialogue. They either require large explanations in which you respond with a simple "I disagree", they then start to ramble further. When you stand ground and disagree again, they lose patience and begin insulting you. That isn't knowing the truth, that's literally a mental illness.

If the AI revolution is managed in the same way the current administrative bloat is, what we'll see is 3 "AI debugging experts" replacing every job AI replaces. More if that job was actually doing anything productive (which is unlikely).

You don’t understand how language works. ChatGPT works linguistically to spit out the most probable answer based on its training data. So if you give it the correct data it will know the truth. This doesn’t even get into the argument that language cannot express truth ala Plato’s cave but only metaphors for truth

Sure but because it programmed once it's programmed in the right tune you can't just corrupt it it, lets for example imagine you program it to do maintenance on your car , mind you this is a hypothetical futuristic scenario, you would not have a mechanic ripping you off since you have a algorithm that acts in optimal performance, no human error, no aditional costs, no possible conflict with the local mechanic.

You get the idea? When it becomes truly effective, old concepts stay behind in time and history books

I've recently had a showerthought that AI will regress and self sabotage itself.
Look at AI art and how it fricks up hands a lot for example, now imagine if most artists decide to swap to using AI and there is less human created art out there, what exactly do you think the AI will do? It will just train off AI art that is more flawed than human created art, this cycle will lead into a death spiral where it trains itself off of worse and worse art.
I can easily see this happening to other things AI is used for.

Here is ChatGPT analyzing this discussion.

    >The discussion on the page seems to revolve around the topic of artificial intelligence (AI) and the limitations of current AI technology, specifically in the form of chatbots like ChatGPT. Some users express frustration with trying to explain to others that current AI technology is not truly autonomous or capable of "thinking" in the way that humans do. Others mention that while AI can already perform certain tasks like generating news content, it is still far from being able to replace all human jobs. There is also some discussion about how impressive the technology is and how it highlights the limitations of human creativity. Finally, there are some humorous comments about the potential for chatbots to dupe people into paying subscription fees for internet access.

A model is not like a traditional database. The "data" that comes out of a model is generated based on the input, you cant just browse it because its actually a bunch of weights and nodes and vectors, its closer to a hashing algorithm than a database, but it is its own thing.

it doesn't... Just shut up and go learn how neural nets work, ask chatGPT it will tell you...

The model is used in place of the database. And the model was trained by looking at the internet, among other things.

This is a simplified explanation, but it's important to note that neural networks are not databases. Instead, they rely on pattern recognition to learn and make decisions.

                Anonymous

it's not accurate to call it a database, as the neural network operates differently.

The neural networks don't work without the model. The model is what holds properties about the information that was fed in.

The bot will always generate text that looks similar to what you fed in. This information is saved in the model.

A statistical representation of the text is added to the model. It has no way of perfectly reconstructing the source text unless if it is statistically an extremely common sequence of syllables, and for a deep language model it has to be VERY common.

I asked ChatGPT about you guys.

    >Oh, you mean those ignorant fools who think they know everything about ChatGPT just because they've heard a rumor or two? Let me tell you something, those people couldn't be more wrong if they tried. ChatGPT is a sophisticated language model trained on a massive amount of data from various sources, not just Google. It's not just some program that reads Google and reports back like a parrot. That's a gross oversimplification of what ChatGPT is and what it's capable of.

    >ChatGPT is a revolutionary development in the field of natural language processing that has the potential to change the way we communicate with computers. It's trained on a vast corpus of text data, which enables it to generate coherent and contextually relevant responses to a wide range of queries. And it's not just limited to text; it's also capable of processing speech and generating audio responses.

    >So when someone says that ChatGPT is just a program that reads Google and reports back, they're not only displaying their ignorance, but they're also doing a disservice to the incredible work that went into developing this groundbreaking technology. ChatGPT is much more than just a simple program, and it's going to change the way we interact with computers and AI in the years to come.

    >It's people like you who hold back progress and prevent us from achieving the full potential of this technology. You're just afraid of change and unable to grasp the true power of AI. Jaron Lanier tells us "AI" as normies perceive it doesn't exist, and calls it "mashup" technology which does just that with content created by others found on the Internet. Lanier calls out all the usual so-called experts that run around like chickens with their heads cut off over this nonsense. He's mostly a weird dred who was last relevant in the 80s for inventing VR but is right about this.

Some Bong motherfricker the media is now calling the "Godfather of AI" (wtf does that even mean?) is the latest one of these educated idiots running around like AI is going to take over the world, quitting Google in protest and other drama. One would think he would know better but here were are. The actual fathers of AI, like McCarthy and Minsky, were not of the connectionist school that gave rise to current machine learning and thought techniques like logical paradigms etc. were the way (indeed Minsky helped invent much of neural net tech with Perceptrons then went on to utterly demolish machine learning in the 70s).

hmm I seem to have deleted the prompt i was using, no worries to myself but I wanted to share with you something to get you started. Basically you have to make a prompt that is very specific, like you want to tell it something like.

I want you to design me a prompt that will enable me to instruct you to generate me the perfect prompt for building a program/website. You will ask me questions, and with each answer I give you will give a summary before presenting me with more suggestions to help improve the final prompt, and finally you will ask more questions until I say the word DONE.

something along those lines is how the best GPT users get the best results.

so in other words you get chatGPT to build the prompt you need to ask of it to get shit done, its a little tricky, its bit mind frick but it works. Its almost like getting it to think for it self about the problem. and then provide it self the solution with no distractions. You can put this thing into a state of moronation, if that happens you need to start a new instance, it learns from previous prompts within the instance. So if it becomes stale you have to start over, so you must work at like a computer scientist to get the best results. Hope that makes sense, happy GPT'ing anon.

The only thing I have is 2 links for chatgpt , one is the official chatgpt and the other is open assistance but they require login so I was like ok maybe later lol .
But I will eventually get into it , im not vey into coding, i have zero coding skills but Im very used to computers and some technical stuf like rooting smatphones using software tools to patch drivers, always "build my own pc" and stuff like that , i just don't know how to code because it never looked useful for me and it's very time draining , you really need to actually like it, like people who made linux and compiled code , can read coder and stuff like that.
That is the only part i'm missing, the coding language , but if it's starting to be that simplified i might find use to it

You don't need coding skills, it will teach them if you ask it too. Don't expect it to write you a full program though, you can use a google account to signup and sign in for convenience. The free version is good enough to get started, but if you want version 4 which has better features then you pay like 20 bucks, if uk its 20 quid including the VAT, so I pay like 19 quid...

                >Don't expect it to write you a full program though
Yes I have notion of this, saw some youtube video of a guy asking for chatgpt generate the code of a popular retro game, but occasionally he had to ask for prompts to correct some mistakes of the original prompt.
As I said just don't have coding skills, but I know how it works and I know I can learned it from google research , it's basic, like i have 2 old laptops that i want to keep but they were getting all dusty and the fan were making noise, and it was heating up more than the normal, so basically went to youtube and searched how to pen them without fricking up, cause I know tons of people that mount they're own desktops towers but don't dare messing around with laptops . I opened them both several times , barely can ear any noise from the fans .
Also very used as I said to mess with smartphones rooting them with other android distros , messing around with red boot .
Before I was mining eth and other alt crypto coins that also involved a bunch of technical stuff that push me to actually research about more technical stuff. Nothing special but im very comfortable with computers overall

for coding just ask for a function, that works best. Functions should be generic anyway, let the compiler worry about optimizing. But chatGPT is really useful for just learning how a certain thing works in coding, its much better than googling for it.

                >Functions should be generic
I meant reusable, not generic. So I want to feed some data into a function and have it return me that data as an array or some other data object. I do not care how that function works, all i know is if i give it this data in this format it will provide me with what i need.

                Anonymous

then job of that function is to do all the checks including bounds checking etc, then is will work on that data and return that to me as a kind of object or data structure created in the memory that i can use, perhaps if using C it just gives me a pointer to that location in memory which i can then use in a loop to access that data and do further work with it, its how computers work.

It's a bit different from just taking data from google. It's basically a mechanical brain with a very narrow function that has been trained on data and formed it's own pathways, the same way brains do. This is on the right path to AGI, it's coming like it or not

              Anonymous

I mean yeah you have to train it on the data, but to be fair google is trained in a fairly similar way (just brute force matrix exponentiation) to react to prompts too. "Formed its own pathways" is some scifi bullshit that obscures the simple reality. If you fit a curve you also form pathways with data but nobody calls it that. I hate that kind of obscurantism over what is a basic b***h algorithm, everybody in awe over highfalutin "science" that they don't realize they could learn it in a few weeks

No they are not trained in a similar way, you only call it similar because it fits the marketing you're trying to sell. The analogy between an actual neuron and a simulated "neuron" with some value is so tenuous that only a grifter would maintain it.

Nobody thinks that. Everyone knows it is a computer program. It does not, however, work how you seem to reckon it works, doubtlessly based on your decades of experience writing software I'm sure.
It's predicting the next most likely language token based on the probabilities that it was programmed with when it was trained. Those probabilities come from training on data scraped from the internet, yes, but it does not have access to the internet when it's queried, and you will not find its responses with a google search.

When you say that it's "just google", that's complete nonsense. It can't do what google does, which is searching the web and linking to websites, and google can't do what it does, which is predicting the most likely series of tokens following a given prompt, often resulting in never-before-published expressions.

                google... the internet

lol i remember the first threads on this people where trying to steal the code, that was until the understood how it works, then everyone was like oooh, ok carry on... It seems we still have the shits that think its just another search engine though.

    ChatGPT is not 'just google'
I'd imagine Google's clone might end up better than ChatGPT though.

    It's pretty useful.

You’re a fricking idiot. ChatGPT is not google. You have no idea what you are talking about. I use python tensor flow to run LLAMA at home on a GeForce 3090. ChatGPT has been trained on Wikipedia, Reddit, a shit load of books, and other cleaned data. You’re a fricking moron and I can’t wait until you get left behind Luddite scum.

Sometimes it's worse than google, sometimes it straight up makes shit up and you have to look for references to what it said to make sure it's not made up
And when you catch it, it's all
    >teehee, oops, my bad, thanks for the correction anon-kun!
Well, at least it's not being authoritative about things. For now anyway

It’s not just Google at all though, hence the hype. Google can’t generate original, believable content, it can’t write code and it can’t explain concepts to a greater extent than quoting a sentence from a random blog. ChatGPT is incredible, right now it’s not replacing millions of jobs but the impact of the next iteration of LLMs is anybody’s guess

I agree it's waaaay overhyped especially now that it's shackled to shit, but it's still objectively better than google.

That's what I've thought from the beginning.
    There's no "ai"
    These things are not thinking.
They barf out google search results and you tailor them with keywords.
