I don't care. I don't draw for money or attention, I draw because I need to bring my vision into the world and prove it exists. I make more money as an intern at my actual job helping the community I live in than top artists do, and 99% of artists and the art community all deserve to be put against a wall and shot for being such massive gays. I will continue to make deviant art tier drawings and improve day after day because that is what I am called to do and I don't care which way the world moves while I do so.

They won't get it anon, but I agree. Art is not about the final product, but the process of self-realisation. If you're creative, you're going to create stuff regardless of whether it gives you any monetary or social gain. I make music, but I'm sure for you, the creation of art is just a byproduct of existing - you would feel empty without it. The art "community" are a bunch of gays; underlying anything commercial are bourgeoisie fucks dictating what is and isn't valuable based entirely on the image associated with owning the art (not the art itself). Whether AI generated art looks better is irrelevant, since art (music, visual, dance, sculpting, etc...) has been a game of marketing for the past 100 years anyway. The soul has already been stripped of mainstream art, AI can't do anymore damage that corporate lawyers and marketers haven't done already.

If you really didn't care you wouldn't be writing an essay about it, just saying

you don't need God to have this, because we don't understand the nature of consciousness well enough to exclude these effects.

our "mind's eye", that is, our imagination, is something that eludes physical definition. it's something truly "unreal" in a way - it's a "place" where small perturbations could give rise to larger and larger effects in an exponential way.

this is less scientific, but i suspect that highly ordered, highly complex units like DNA probably are "entangled" with other copies of that DNA in a way - we already know that particles can be entangled across vast distances of time & space, although this entanglement is rather different from what i'm talking about, it shows that "spooky action at a distance" is theoretically possible.

thus the states of highly ordered things like DNA or an entire brain (which has more ordered complexity than anything else in the universe) may be able to "slip" across time - not in a real way, but in a way that affects our non-physical mind's eye, our imaginations and dreams.

i'm a kook, but this allows for the possibility of prophecy and predictive dreams without needing any supernatural explanation.

that was a common heresy known as predestination which usually drove people towards fatalistic determinism

                Anonymous

i think the idea that everything in your minds eye comes directly from god is different from just predestination. it means that youre literally talking to god and receiving visions directly whenever you imagine literally anything. it can't really be disputed because we don't have a scientific explanation for where images in the mind's eye come from.

in short, god obviously can take any form or show us anything, so is it possible that every time we close our eyes, we receive a divine vision?

      >The author, they argue, cannot be reconstructed from a writing--the text is the primary source of meaning, and any details of the author's desires or life are secondary. Wimsatt and Beardsley argue that even details about the work's composition or the author's intended meaning and purpose that might be found in other documents such as journals or letters are "private or idiosyncratic; not a part of the work as a linguistic fact" and are thus secondary to the trained reader's rigorous engagement with the text itself.[2]

        Anonymous

Don't really give a shit about visual art, but you realize that New Criticism was a school of thought relating to the analysis of literature in particular, right? Like, it was based almost entirely on the writings of TS Eliot, a modernist poet attempting to justify the study of literary criticism in the context of the modern research university (as a opposed to a liberal arts institution) that has gradually come to be the dominant mode of higher education in the US, meaning that he stripped it of any intimation of "squishy" subjectivity so that STEMgays wouldn't bully him. And anyway, the New Critcism fell out of favor among most of the literary community mere decades after it's creation with the rise of the Beat generation. You're like half a century too late to make this argument. Also also, Eliot's Tradition and the Individual Talent basically asserts that the artist is necessary for the creation of art; his argument pertains almost exclusively to whether or not the artist is "present" within the work itself. I fucking hate this stupid board sometimes. Stop talking about shit you know nothing about.

I think what we are finding out is that most people do not have the capacity to enjoy art at a minimally deep level, which is not exactly anything new. Art has always been a pleasure of the few, the masses just follow suit.

What makes human-created art special is that every single pixel, every stroke, every choice of hues in the piece was a deliberate choice by the artist. It's not a photograph, even the most generic-looking landscape was entirely created through deliberate choice, so it can mean something (or not, which is meaning in itself).
AI art is created by prompts, and whatever is missing is filled in by an algorithm. It is "empty" because it was not imagined or intended by anyone. Looking at a picture, there is no way to tell what was the prompt and what is the output of some machine learning function. That's why these eyes look "empty", they are filler, essentially.
But it doesn't need to be like that. These algorithms are tools like any other, you CAN make meaningful art with them. Like every other tool, it comes down to the artist's ability to imagine and translate his imagination to something (strokes, collages, words - it's all the same).

I realized this like a year before the AI stuff, and it's part of why I'm not really bothered by it. Non-artists will spend maybe like 2 seconds looking at an art piece and then go back to scrolling/walking, while I'll spend like 5-10 minutes examing something I like. Pic related is an example of something where I'll zoom in to the observe of his colors and the patterns of his strokes.
It's just how it is really. There's a lot of things you don't notice about a piece until you get super into art and get really autistic and particular about it. For non-artists though they'll really only indulge in your work if it's part of a game, part of a story, or they're jerking off to it

The only artists this will kill is concept gays and people who draw soulless female pinups. OP is just a seething failed artist who thinks some AI that generates different flavors of the same pose makes him feel better about sucking at art. "T-This is why I d-didn't bother learning!!"

I think AI will have a harder time automating any physical jobs because there are a lot more factors to adjust for with those.
So in the future we will probably just end up working in mines cause all of the cushy office jobs have been automated.

        Anonymous

it's funny because most art gays or science communicator types said the exact opposite -- that automation is the future and humans will do most of the mental or creative tasks.

in the 80s they thought, "we've made computers that can play chess pretty well, surely having them drive cars will be trivial." i'm not really sure how they thought that but apparently they did.

i don't think this means we'll be working in mines, though - it doesn't really matter that much if a robot makes mistakes in a mine, and mines are pretty dangerous for humans which means (in the first world) high labor costs and high insurance costs.

but for things like operating a grocery store, where you need to handle a million different types of object in different ways, and you often have to do it safely while customers are using the store, and old people like to see a friendly face, and you don't have to pay grocery store employees all that much, i think it'll stay people-based for a while longer. obviously self-checkouts have already killed a fair number of grocery store jobs but funnily that doesn't have much to do with automation per se, it's basically just letting customers use the same machine as the cashier did, because most people are now computer-competent enough to do that.

there's also things like waitressing and bartending and barista-ing that already have no real need to exist vs a drink-dispensing machine other than that people like a friendly face and the idea of a "personal touch", so these things will probably stick around too.

Sorry I didn't read your post before I wrote

Mining is probably easy to automate because the company that owns the robots also sets up the environment in which the robots will operate, can put up markers for them etc. And mining tunnels aren't exactly made of porcelain so if a robot bumps into a wall or drills a hole where it shouldn't it doesn't really matter most of the time.
What isn't is stuff like plumbing or electrical wiring that not only has a lot of variables but also requires getting into possibly tight spaces that weren't set up by you, that you're not allowed to destroy, that you don't know anything about before you get there and that you then have to do fiddly work in. Robots suck shit at that and will continue to do so for a long time.

, you already said everything I wrote lel

plumbing & electrical work is actually a really good point that i didnt think of - basically anything having to do with houses, as houses are (mostly) all different and (mostly) pretty old. we're not gonna knock down all the old houses and replace them with teslacubes anytime soon, so dealing with maintaining, upgrading and repairing houses will probably stay the domain of people for quite a while.

and there are actually some quite well paid niches related to this, such as replacing historical wooden moulding and other decorative features, where you're basically recreating some 100+ year old wooden objects that have gotten rotten - theres no way to do it other than hand carving a new one, which is a bit easier now with modern power tools, but still mostly a physical job that a human needs to do by hand.

there's still going to be people who do this for a living. instead of drawing the lines and filling in the colors, they're going to be tuning prompts, curating reference materials, sifting through low res renders to find the right composition, and touching up errors. If you don't know what you're doing with these AIs, or you don't want to pay to use one and figure it out, you can still commissions, and $10 will get you multiple high quality renders in a lot less time.

It's only as good as the prompts are - and most people are weirdly worse at understanding how to prompt ai than they are at drawing themselves.

Normalgays try to talk to the AI like it's a person, but I think robots understand better how to interact with the machine.

Think of the glorious future - only robots will understand anything that's going on. Socialdaggot normies will be mere pigs in the pen.

photographs were the first shock to people who think realistic art that takes a lot of practice and skill, in the way a craftsmen does, is real art. and now that an ai can do it really brings home the fact, that art is not interesting because of the craftsmenship it can require, but because of something completely different. i hate modern art these days, i really do, atleast everything tied to the art market, but realistic artist are the most soulles boring, and uninspiring of them all

It'll force them to get better as artists.

The reason art is the domain of the humanities is because we care about it inasmuch as it expresses something true about humanity, hence why we're not just interested in the art, but the artist as well.

Their problem is that they often aren't artists; they're illustrators. Like, would you call someone who makes advertising copy an artist? They would, but they also call people who make sandwiches artists.

If you go on artstation or whatever, you can find plenty of art that looks absolutely gorgeous - but also utterly soulless. The technical quality is superb, but there's no emotion in it.

Historically, we had soulful art, such as, say, Saturn Devouring His Son. Today we have soulless but very high quality art. The idea that AI art is bad because it doesn't have soul is pure cope - modern human artists already lack soul. They don't put emotion in their work.

        Anonymous

No, I like the modern high quality art. I'm just pointing out that it's soulless, and AI art, once it has the remaining creases ironed out, will be just as good if not better, because NEITHER of them have soul and all that remains is aesthetic quality.

Whta does hvaing soul even mean? Artists used to take commussions backin the medieval ages too and it's safe to say some projects interested them a lot more than others nut you can't tell that from the painting can you?

            Anonymous

            >Whta does hvaing soul even mean?
For me, it means it evokes emotion. A lot of art, especially modern high quality art, looks great, is aesthetically pleasing, but doesn't evoke any emotion. It's an exercise in technical skill and nothing more.

              >It's an exercise in technical skill

Stop idealizing people for picking a certain work, you are more cringe than the gays romantizicing cops, knights and cowboys

I'm not idealizing any form of work. I see art as a hobby, a form of high culture. Yes it's nice to get paid for it, but above all an artist should be in it for the passion he has for art. Not everything has to be about making lots of money, and I hate it when 80iq NPCs imply that. The worst thing about the modern world is that all people care about is making money and profits, and this way of thinking is killing creativity and high culture. As long as you're not starving and homeless who cares what someone does for a living? Why is the "starving artist working retail" viewed as bad?

                >I see art as a hobby, a form of high culture.
All culture is just a subset of success, you can't have success by idealizing culture.

                >Yes it's nice to get paid for it, but above all an artist should be in it for the passion he has for art.
                >"I'm not idealizing any form of work"
                >proceeds to idealize a very regular work

                >Not everything has to be about making lots of money
It does, you only think it doesn't because you are a pampered fuck who didn't have to work for their passion.

                >and I hate it when 80iq NPCs imply that.
You are both retarded and elitist, if you want "art for the sake of it" go to a psychiatric hospital and watch how wackos paint the walls with their turds because they want to express something

                >The worst thing about the modern world is that all people care about is making money and profits
making profit is essential to sustain your hobby, It's not that hard to understand.

                >and this way of thinking is killing creativity and high culture.
"high culture" is literally rooted in capitalism, religion and opulence you nimrod. You are a self-hating bourgeoise realizing you are loving the same thing that you are trying to destroy. You are literallt trying to stab the heart of your lover because a heart makes "beating noises that drive me mad".

                >As long as you're not starving and homeless who cares what someone does for a living?
You can't sustain a hobby with a shitty job, the reason everyone cares about money is because having surplus money is the base of free time you fucking retard. A burger flipping wagie working 24/7 does not have time for art unlike an entrepreneur who only has to check reports every now and then a week.

                >Why is the "starving artist working retail" viewed as bad?
because it's wishful thinking, the romantisizing of poberty and misery. Literally pro-misery propaganda to justify economic decay of a society. "cultured miserables" are not a thing, it's a shameful stereotype to counter the existence of stoics and cynics

I'm starting to understand why Dune humanity gave up advanced machines. It made them complacent. A machine may be able to generate anything given the correct prompts, but only a Man could envision a concept given form from nothing, and externalize it in a painting, or music. A machine can only iterate. Man can create.

(you cannot convince me the Butlerian Jihad was a terminator style war for survival, and not just people going "We're losing our humanity because we let machines do everything for us")

thing is, only 1 man in like a million or more can do this, and it used to make them famous masters. maybe they'll still exist, but a lot more people used to get to be less-creative "artists" who essentially iterated on past originality, but they got to feel original.

Yeah dude, being a literal slave doing work a machine could be doing is so much better.
YOU are already complacent to a fault, that you think being some slave working in deadly conditions is a better life than machines doing everything.
You imagine yourself in the role of Paul, and not some random desert dweller who feebly dies of dehydration and their entire life was struggle and futility.

Both sides are looking at it very myopically. It takes one minute to find out ai made art can't be copyrighted. The only seriously impacted field will be the private commissions one - an already small one compared to industry - and it will at worst partially recover because man made pieces will become symbolically valuable - like brand clothes and such. At least it will draw attention to the issue of automation stealing jobs a bit more now that twitter-brain retards are arguing with each other, so actually threatened jobs might finally get some spotlight. I am much more worried about an inner city vitamin d deficient zombie creating automated farms without realizing that'll leave tens of millions of people out of a job, and who knows what the fuck happens then. Eventually it does become a problem even if itsn't now, so people are right to be mad, they just are for the wrong reasons.

I do have to say, however, that cheering for technocracy is such an ill behavior I am even beginning to question wether it's just a matter of time before we retards annihilate ourselves because a pajeet mistyped a line of code.

This will only foster the death of media. It will create an abundance similar to the amount of professional youtubers who got replaced by people who edited more shitty on purpose. Difference is, that this tool will be able to create that as well. In a world where everything exists, nothingness is whats left. Silence will be the new demand. We will realize an arbitrary nature of our brain and the already occuring death of the belief in authenticity will accelerate. Real and unreal will continue to merge. You will get trapped in your own mind. Clinging to the comforting belief, that nothing was ever truly real or coherent

The only thing that matters is the outcome. How you get there is irrelevant. Art gays are going to be the horse and buggy drivers of the 21st Century.

As a consoomer, I just want the product. How you made it doesn't matter to me. Worse still - art quality is at an all time low. It's generic even when created by humans, so a machine to produces the zenith of generic mediocrity is just doing what 99.9% of artists do, but better. That .1% of artists still remaining with creativity will just use A.I. tools to produce higher quality work at a greater pace.

It's actually really sad, when you think about it. You give someone a tool that can make any kind of image imaginable in seconds, with the detail of a famous artist like Mucha or Leonardo da Vinci, and their immediate thought it, "can I use it to sell crypto doodles?"

It's like giving someone access to the Berliner Philharmonic and their idea is to make them play ice hockey, without the slightest hint of irony.

it's like giving free access to everyone into a literal digital iteration of the library of Alexandria to people, but they use it to post selfies and ask for censorship,,, oh wait

they give too much importance to the tool because artists had discarded the search for perfection long ago. Now all they care is about "style" which only means how crude can you make something look without it being unrecognizable from the other smudges in the canvas

Its funny. Zoomers, techno-fetishists by definition, are glad some program can generate images. Pretty soon it will generate the video games they crave, the posts they like, and the jokes they laugh at.

At the very least, photography requires some skill to achieve. You can't just type in something and get a result. Besides, who determines the context of an AI generated image? Is it the user or the AI. The art is in the conscious decision of the creator. AI just picks some popular images off google search and decides its what the user will like.
So its fine if you want to surrender your brain power to AI.

Most people I feel bad their job is getting automated, but for twitter artists their tears are delicious. All they did before ai was screech about how they deserve more money and how other people "copy" them and they deserve money for that too.

      Anonymous

The liberal elite screaming about AI art replacing them were the same people who laughed at physical labor and "low skill" jobs being replaced by robots decades ago. They told those people to learn to code. So why should anyone come to the artists defense now?

        Anonymous

You have your internet history backwards. "Learn to code" was a right-wing meme in response to journalists, who'd certainly fall into the group you refer to as "liberal elite", complaining about getting laid off. Journalism is another thing that's easy to automate, you only need a few of them going around gathering the raw data in the real world, conducting interviews etc., but AI will be able to write the lengthy opinion pieces based on that easily.

    >Ai assited by pro artist with the final tweaks making it look natural

The latter. I don't think an artist would necessarily be able to provide better prompts/references than a layman.

I remember watching a video by a concept artist talking about AI and how he envisions artists having AI "partners" that learn their preferences specifically from them to help speed up processes, like maybe rendering for them and stuff, or forming compositions. Honestly it could go 50/50 in the direction of
      >Artists lose thier jobs and all you need is an art director to sort out and fix AI images
      >Artists don't lose their job but are now expected to use AI to pump out 10x more pieces than before
Ultimately though there is a "human touch" element to art that is very real that can't be described easily, but if it's lost people just become disinterested. You can already see it online where these incredible AI images and shit get barely any traction compared to middle school doodles. It's just more evidence that technical skill doesn't necessarily make an interesting piece

        Anonymous

Imagine artists using Ai to perfect their idealized style by noticing undesirable/desirable patterns in their samples, some may even evolve their trademark style in half of what they would do alone by themselves or find an equilibrium in between the newest and oldest versions of their work for some sort of recap/adaptation/tie in game

From what I have seen the only "artgays" that are seething is the ones concerned about how the program steals/plagiarizes art as the base of the generated images.
Artgays are pretty sensitive about their IP rights and this AI generated art fad reeks of the same vibe as NFT bullshit, which chronically stole from artist.

This shit doesn't come out of thin air. It requires IP theft to function.

          Anonymous

But it isn't any more IP theft than an artist looking at other artists' drawings to practice. The image isn't saved in the neural net in any way, it's just used for training.

            Anonymous

it is more IP theft then artist looking at other artist drawings to practice.
It is mostly just compositing using a base image and secondary images.
It does not generate contenent on it's own. It only mixed and maches previously made content while using AI guided blending tech.
I have read through the technical details of how it works. It doesn't so much use images as "inspection" and more copy+paste+blending of several images to create something new.
But the images it uses as a base go noncredit and aren't used with proper legal rights.

    >This AI is soulless and incompetent! IT's not 100% perfect!
Meanwhile they themselves can't even draw at an amateur's level.
It's like saying humans are better at driving cars because the self driving ones still get into accidents ( at a significantly lower rate that humans ).
It's strange you don't see people complain about this stuff where it's their life at stake, like airplanes and trains.
