Elon already warned that mainstream media will be disappointed, and only engineers will find the talk interesting.

If we see the bot walking, I will already be gladly surprised.

I don’t really understand the Android approach.
I always thought that simulating an animated object would be the lower hanging fruit.
IE like you have a self driving car with a conversation module installed.
With an android I can’t see a good enough value proposition.
Then again, people said the same about EVs and are now eating crow.
Musk is full of surprises so wait and see I guess.

Unless they partnered with boston dynamics and/or bought atlas bots, they will have literally nothing to show. it's been 1 year, you can do frick all in a year when you know what you're doing, let alone doing R&D. This is a hiring campaing only, they might show some cool ideas they've come up with for joints / robo muscles and maybe some vision systems for home object identification, don't expect anything more

In other words, they basically overtook BMW in the US in 10 years from literally nothing.

okay, so in 2+10 maybe we'll have mass produced sexbots, doesn't change today

Its so stupid that morons like you get fooled by PR companies like BostonDynamics.

They have no real product. All they've done is made some youtube videos to fool morons like you and other investors into buying their company. Google abandoned the company for a reason.

        Anonymous

no shit they have no product moron.

but AI company + robotic company = product. it's a very simple concept

          Anonymous

They would need to find a AI company to merge with. Google was supposed to be that, but they abandoned ship.

Tesla is both an AI company and a robot company. They bought robot manufacturing company in Germany a few years ago and retooled them for car making. It was a big deal too because the robot company was making robots for other customers too, but Tesla cancelled those contracts and just had the company make robots for internal use.

So Tesla is a complete package. Boston Dynamics lacks the software package.

that's an extremely difficult problem and not getting solved any time soon. Entirely new actuators will need to be developed. Current ones aren't torque dense enough to fit inside a frame and carry a bunch of dead weight rubber.
        >>TPE
it'll never be warm like flesh is. It won't move like flesh does. There are big fat electric motors and gearboxes where the pussy needs to be. Making room for it requires new actuators. But hey, maybe you're in to fatties that barely need to move

I'd rather trust human error than catastrophic machine logic flaws, which are a result of human error, at least when it comes to physical tasks.

The term "tolerance stacking" comes to mind.
Also the medical scanners from the 80s that would dose people with lethal radiation simply because the operators could fix a mistyped setting faster than the machine could reset it's hardware, and the machine wasn't aware that it was using CT/MRI levels of power through the X-ray filter.

People are expensive and frick up all the time, yes this means you (and me)
Machines are prone to incredibly horrible actions because they function exactly as the people programmed them, and things as complex as autonomous decision are so hideously blackbox even the programmers barely understand the function.

Robots replacing workers is as likely as a true Level 5 driverless semi-tractor existing in the next 10 years.

        >mass manufacture
That doesn't mean much. You can mass produce complex milled components if you have enough CNC machines. And so many modern bots are made with off-the-shelf components to reduce their prototyping cost that I'd imagine most of them could be mass produced easily.

Making one set of components versus dozens of diffetent kinds of components. Which do you think is going to matter in mass manufactoring???

            >Making one set of components versus dozens of diffetent kinds of components
So it's going to be made of LEGO Kinex? This robot with have thousands of parts. Assembly, even if automated will be necessarily complex. Stamping or casting some skeletal components isn't going to be a significant difference in the overall manufacturing time or BoM.

              Anonymous

Why are you pretending to know anything about this subject? Just so fricking weird. Hint: more varied parts=higher complexity leading to higher cost/time/validation

It's a humanoid robot. It HAS to have varied parts. Thousands of them. You can bundle things together into packages or modules to make final assembly faster. But it's still going to be a long, complex process.
I've heard this claim of "mass production is right around the corner!" far too many times during my life to be anything but skeptical.

ah yes, that classic twitter cope where you now pretend like you know the inner workings of proprietary tech and that you're 100% convinced the shit company that's underperformed and underdelivered literally everything it's promised for the past 10 years is 100% telling the truth and totally not lying about pre-programming their own shit

        LAWL!

They sell the spot dog robot. You pre-program the tasks for their robots.

I know because thats what they are sold as. Maybe you're right in one regards, it may not be the robot thats dumb. You may be the dumb moron instead.

Yeah totally man, all proprietary tech that offer (and also most of which isn't on the market) are totally all doing the one same thing and the bullshit demo you just watch t-o-t-a-l-l-y isn't doing what you're projecting lmfao

            like actually lmao

You press a button on the app.

              The dog dances.

You press several buttons on the app, the dog moves in that route.

Holy frick, you Musk hater troons are moronic.
