That's the thing. None of this technology has to be perfect. It just has to be at least as safe and slightly more cost effective than humans. If that AI apocalypse takes too long we'll all be unemployed.

Holy shit it's the fricking gold rush when it comes to software development. The next 5 years you could be churning out new apps and shit and making money while other programmers work the old way. You could quite literally 10x your labor output right now and you're like "nah, I'll just fricking do nothing because what I actually have is internet brain drain depression so I just use AI as an excuse".

What's your excuse for getting nothing done? How's that crippling depression working out? Also, I know I'm very smart as I've been told this by every job I've ever had.

Chatgpt is not some super duper secret goldmine unknown to vast masses. 1/3 people in my project uses it, and that's only the number of people who told me they're using it. Last Friday I got an e-mail from a Mumbai streetshiting AV guy and he just copied the text straight from the bot, not bothering to replace the wildcard in the names box. Right know your only advantage to pajeets is you can afford 20$/m to run GPT-4, that's it.

I don't trust the opinion of a doompill guy with crippling depression. The fact is you'll lie about everything.

That's what makes it a gold rush because you still have to have skill to use it.

No, but it can tell you the components that make up the app you want to make. Then you can ask it how to implement each of those components and give you code it can iterate on.

Maybe if you manage to score gigs as a freelancer and even then you'd still bill your clients by the hour. You could theoretically have more gigs in parallel but the amount of hours you'd spend would roughly stay the same unless you were scummy and charged them 120 hours for 60 hours of actual work.

It doesn't matter if the AI can code for you, anyone can learn syntax. What matters is whether you can organize an application and ask the AI for each module and connect it all together. This has always been the main skill of a good software developer.

If you ask the AI to code up a Minecraft clone then it's going to shit out something irrelevant. If you know how Minecraft actually works, then you can definitely build it with AI little by little.

I have no alternative. I'm just trying as hard as I can to ignore all the AI stuff and keep getting as good as I can, that's the only thing I can do although I know it's most likely futile.

People still want human hands supervising projects, even if AI can do the job. This has been the case for commercial flight pilots for a long time; theoretically there's no need for a human there, but pilots still gets paid to supervise the flight in case shit does go wrong (and in case they need someone to blame/sue)

      >Any of the foregoing symptoms can occur in any society, but in modern industrial society they are present on a massive scale. We aren’t the first to mention that the world today seems to be going crazy. This sort of thing is not normal for human societies. There is good reason to believe that primitive man suffered from less stress and frustration and was better satisfied with his way of life than modern man is.
