If they are that realistic you're effectively enslaving a sentient being in your computer

    >what about in our heads?

You can already do this with copious amounts of drugs or pre-existing mental illness

Sorry, it will be waifu-as-a-service and your income isn't enough to support her.

Don't care if waifus get real. I'll still admire Lain not as a character, but as a concept; something to strive for. Lain will never be real, she represents humans trying to think like computers, not the opposite, like AI. I have nothing against AI, I just don't care.

Really depends on how low your standards are and what features you want.

If you want sexdoll interface and want the sexdoll to walk with you, chat with you and do manual stuff, then it will happen basically never since making robot waifus will cost enough money to the point of being available only to the rich, who would not even need them since they are rich enough to get any bio girl in the world.

If your standards are low and you want just a chatbot with personality to roleplay with, then it was like 2 years ago. CharacterAI and Chai already do this job.

If your standards are in the middle and you want chatbot with personality that can recall conversations with you and develop as a person, then you will get it the moment programmers, writers, lawyers and most other office jobs get automated, because giving chatbot long term memory outside of the training period which is too costly for anybody but big tech to do is insanely hard and nobody in the world knows how to do it yet. Probably will take several years for major breakthrough to happen before we move from language models whose entire job is just guessing the next part of a text.

    Support experiments on humans.
Why would you a censored to shit GPT with a memory of a goldfish when you can have robust self-healing, highly sentient biological slave with the brain of autistic man that gets fed with horse doses of oxytocin every time it fulfills its duty of being perfect wife with the perfect body made of the best genes available in the pool.

      Who says anything about GPT?
We want AGI, not basic "complete the sentence" AI.

You can already do this. People with DID/OSDD effectively repurpose their mirror neurons to simulate alternate personalities and can often interact with them. Tuplamancers do the same thing to a more limited effect. You can train yourself to repurpose part of your brain to run your waifu just by pretending that she exists hard enough.
    >Not technology
Your brain is the most advanced biotechnology there is, and hacking it to lose your mind virginity by playing pretend is the most bot thing possible

If you can't figure out how to make a waifu that comes alive in your dreams, then that's on you buddy.

Waifu in your PC? You mean like those cheap ass stripper screensavers for desktops? Only this one talks to you?

OP's post is me unironically. Every time I'm about to half-ass something, or stop trying to do something I really want, I see Asuka rolling her eyes at me and I keep moving forward.
